Dude when I had a lot more time to play Garen was one of my 3 main champs that I really played a lot. Honestly he may be annoying to play against but like if he's losing there's nothing he can do as you see here in game 2. The problem with garen is that if you have even partially decent macro, the dude can clear waves with one abilities and has 10 billion MS and his W can get him out of sticky situations so it's so easy to catch up in gold once people start grouping you just split push and get a tower or two and some uncontested waves and boom you're back in it. Even more, even when garen is weak he can still 100-0 squishies by just flash+qing onto their face. Flash q ult when in range is literally just a confirmed combo since they can't dash away due to q silence and at lvl 16 it will kill most squishies from literally 50-60% HP. Such a forgiving champ late game it's insane.
