    I don't have any issues in acknowledging the athleticism for this. I liken it to the same athleticism as someone proficient in baton twirling or high level hoola hooping (both requiring amazing coordination)... so long as we can also acknowledge that this is not Iaito or any practical use of an actual sword. Your angles and releasing of the sword would leave you dead in a sword fight. As a student of kendo, if someone flashed around like this they would have thier heads popped or wrists broken. I will also concede that in a fight, gun wins 99% of the time in a knife (sword) fight.

      At the point where I reach enough financial stability and free time, I plan on investing in a high quality live blade and cutting mats to train traditional kendo again.
      Until then I'll keep having fun with my contemporary style sword shenanigans. :)

    I'm looking to get an aluminum sword for spinning tricks, whats the ideal length? Would a regular katana length 28" or something work, or the junior/kids 18"? I'm 5'7 by the way
    Saw one on ebay with these specs
    Overall Length:39.5 "
    - Blade Length:28.35 "
    - Blade Material:Aluminum Alloy
    - Handle Length:11"

    • @KarateRX
      @KarateRX  3 года назад +1

      Sorry it took me so long. You want the blade to match the length of your arm or slightly larger. I would get one from AWMA.com. Good quality and not super expensive.

    I've been self-taught sword training for almost my entire life, I'm only 18 and most people say I'm pretty young to be acting like this, but almost every sword fighter I've ever met in my life doesn't feel like a real warrior anymore, I get that we don't have to fight for our lives anymore but does that mean we have to take our sparring sessions with the seriousness of a Nerf war, The way that I look at it if you're holding a weapon you should be fighting with, It should be clashing with something else It's what It's built for, and it's what it deserves no blade should have to go through fire just to sit on a wall and be swung around, A sword or an ax or a spear should be trusted until they're broken then given a warriors honor not just thrown aside

    Look nice but not like Japanese knowledge… you shoul try like Iaido or Tenshin Ryu Hyoho or something like that. Your movement, footwork etc. looks like your doing a karate form with a sword on your hand. But nice Job cause even like that look likes is hard to do…

    Very nice movements and you definitely are at ease in your art. All I can say there are many movements that make the craft unnecessary, nice to see, but a bit theatrical or dance like. They are impressive, but when dealing with a adversary and predicts a unnecessary spin or pose with the sward away from them as a target, it will take that chance to hit you.

    • @KarateRX
      @KarateRX  3 года назад +2

      Yup, definitely for performance and theatre. Not meant to simulate real combat with a katana. Thank you for the comment.

    • @blackjetski555
      @blackjetski555 3 года назад

      I tend to agree. The simplest of continuous walking combos (one strike for every step) feel far more productive to practise, as you can mix and match with the strikes, and I found that the best way to learn which ones transition best into others.
      e.g. right to left diagonal downward strike -> left to right diagonal downward -> right horizontal neck strike etc. Or left horizontal neck strike-> right upward strike feels rewarding to do for the smooth action.
      What Karate RX is doing in this vid though, is technically far more impressive.

    ok so this move set is risky if you fuck it up, the only real combat vale it would have would be disorientation, put simply your sheer charisma from the move will intimidate and confuse your opponent, put simply you want them to think your so good with a sword you don't even have to use it most effectively, although in this day and age this would be most effective since few actually know how to properly use a katana and the common public idolizes ninja like people who do crazy acrobatics and kill people with kamehas lol, put simply the average hoodlum thinks you know what your doing if you can do that trick well enough, but against an actual swordsman you would be dead over 5 times over, a good way to tell how to properly use swords and other weapons is to watch fencing videos, they can teach you a lot about how combat actually works and how doing stuff like this against an actual swordsman would get you killed, the Japanese made powerful beautiful swords but they were less focused on swordplay because of how uncommon a swordfight was on the battlefield, but medieval Europe swordfights were way more common and so with the collected experience of thousands of swordsman they know how to fight a fellow swordsman properly, oh and if your planning on blocking bullets with a sword it's not the brightest idea, in order to do something like that you have to have extremely quick reflexes and great intuition alongside a crap ton of luck, if your gonna bring a melee weapon to a gun fight, make sure to bring protection like a bullet proof vest or armor, or even just a shield for gods sake, in fights everyone is trying to be the one that makes it out alive and so no one is going to pull any punches to let you do your 'sick flips' in a showman's type of use this would be a great thing to have up your sleeve, if you can do it effectively, it would definitely impress your audience, of course if you fail it's not gonna be fun, I am an amature swordsmith and since I make weapons of war it isn't useless info to understand how they are properly used, this would be cool as hell in a movie but in real life this would be the trick that sealed your fate.
