I was lucky enough to grow up in Oly where Kurt lived at this time and see them on several occasions in small venues, including Grohl's first show at the North Shore Surf Club. Absolutely electric shows, energy through the roof, sweaty masses of long-haired kids pogoing, moshing, and stage diving, utterly losing ourselves. It was indeed a magical time.
I think it's safe to say that ALL of us liking this comment are insanely jealous!!! Cherish those memories man. You take any pics of those early shows? Wild times I'm sure.
That was Times il' say
That must of been a great time living in Olympia around the time when Kurt lived there, 114 Pear St, Olympia, WA must of been amazing to see them at the North Shore Surf Club, and all the other venues around Olympia they played… I know you said you went to the North Shore Surf Club (Grohl’s first show with Nirvana) on 10/11/90, did you see them at The Mods at the Evergreen State College on 10/17/90? Or any of the other Evergreen State College shows they played there, and curious question did you listen to KAOS Community Radio when Kurt went there on 09/25/90 where he played Acoustic (Opinion, Lithium, Dumb, Been A Son, etc…) I always wanted to hear the Full Radio session Kurt did that day, and hear the version of D-7 Kurt did with Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening / K Records), who was the Host of the “Boy Meets Girl” Show.
That’s really great you got to see all that History…. As it was Happening.
The Closest I’ve ever got to being near Cobain/Nirvana show was when Nirvana played at Maxwell’s, Hoboken, NJ on July 13, 1989 (as Maxwell’s was only 45 minutes away from my house) and since Nirvana played at J.C. Dobbs in Philadelphia the day previous on July 12, 1989 Nirvana would of drove down the highway passed my town to get to Hoboken, NJ to play at Maxwell’s, on July 13, 1989 (Kurt was only 45 mins away, and he Smashed his Univox Hi-Flier beyond repair at this show,) which is my Favorite brand/model guitar, and my favorite band in my home state not that far away, but unfortunately I was only 7 months old in July ‘89 and Nirvana played there again at Maxwell’s 9-Months later on April 28, 1990 (which you see clips of this show in the Sub Pop In Bloom Alternate Music Video) the Live shots with Kurt wearing the Mudhoney “Big Muff” t-shirt and using the Home Made Hybrid Surf Green Mustang in the In Bloom music video was filmed at Maxwell’s, Hoboken, NJ on April 28, 1990. Then the third and final NJ performance was when Nirvana played at the Legendary Punk Venue “City Gardens” in Trenton, NJ on September 27, 1991. If I was old enough I would of went to all 3 of these shows… (the 2 Maxwell’s Hoboken NJ July 13, 1989 & April 28, 1990 and the City Gardens Trenton NJ September 27, 1991) were the only NJ shows Nirvana ever played sure Nirvana did their MTV Unplugged Rehearsals at SST Inc., Rehearsal Facility, In Weehawken, NJ on November 16 & 17, 1993 but obviously that was closed to the public as it was a rehearsal…
But I do own the April 28, 1990 Maxwell’s, Hoboken, NJ and the September 27, 1991 City Gardens, Trenton, NJ shows on Cassette tapes that were recorded at those shows. As I knew someone who went to both shows and recorded them on Cassettes and then gave me them a few years back… I mean the 09/27/91 show cassette is kind of distorted as he was standing in the front row in front of Kurt and Kurt’s Amps just over power that little cassette recorder… hahaha.
@@rychcorporhate Haha my good buddy lives in Kurt's old Pear St. apartment. I was just there when I visited home a couple months back.
I missed Nirvanas legendary mods shows (I think there were two) at Evergreen but I was at the Gulf War show at the Evergreen library in January '91. In fact, that was the last time I saw them.
Give me your brain...
This is disgustingly underrated.
Cant believe I've just discovered this! Its amazingly put together.
Could not agree more!
Man nobody is safe from these bot scams dude, Flixzone is a scam don’t believe it.
Yeah this really cool
Agreed. Shocked at the amount of footage I've never seen. Also Cobain is a lot friendlier to these smaller crowds, it seems.
Even in 1991, people were heckling bands to play Freebird
1:26:05 Footage of Kurt smashing his Natural Univox Hi-Flier Phase 3 beyond repair at Maxwell’s, Hoboken, NJ on July 13, 1989 (45 minutes from my house) My favorite band and My favorite model/brand of guitar being smashed in my home state. Wish I could of been there but sadly I was only 7-months old in July ‘89.
First time I've seen that, I remember Nirvana 1989, July 2 I turned 23, awesome group, right before my daughter was born in July 22

Buddy Holly during what would be his last tour he was 12 he still plays his Stratocaster that Buddy signed and he owns 3 packs of Black Diamond strings that Buddy owned my church's guitarist Ray gave me a pack I haven't opened them cause I'm keeping them how they are
I'm always amazed at just how much Nirvana footage there is out there. Especially from this era.
Hey man, it's the social media era.
@@PapriceP It wasnt then. Not one person in the video owned a mobile.
They toured a lot, I mean Kurt saw the world in literally 2 years..
Kris in his tighty whiteys 😂
Yes I agree alot of footage of Nirvana a awesome group.
7:15 This transition is so perfect
I love that old agressive style Kurt sang Poly chorus
Its the best
Love the way kurt played just pure emotion
29:07 Its easy to forget Cobain's more throwaway side tunes , but at one point they were the pinnacle of his repertoire, and he performed them with conviction and passion. This vocal performance of stain is absolutely amazing.
All I keep thinking is that the people in the audience probably use this as every "fun fact" and corporate ice- breaker till this day..."I saw Nirvana a tiny club", "I danced onstage with Nirvana", or "I heard Dave Grohl's/Smells Like Teen Spirit's first performance." And now a lot of them are in their 50s. Time is wild.
Or I was drunk on stage and their guitarist kicked my ass
When i need to clean out my head, it's Nirvana all the way.
you clean all this mess around you with nirvanas boys team

Lol yeah it works well.

It's actually not called "born in a junkyard", that one is correctly titled "token eastern song" - and he doesnt even ever say "born in a junkyard", he says "hold it in your gut!"
@@aggremo Exactamente, "actualmente" no es llamada así, pero sí en la época del Bleach. Así que no se cambia. Además que la conocí por ese nombre hace más de 20 años.
Travis is right. Unfortunately, it was only ever named 'Born in a Junkyard' by bootleggers misunderstanding the lyrics, which were confirmed much later by Chad as "Hold it in your gut".
This is not Nirvana that I knew for the last 30 years. It is look like the same stages that we played in Russia in the 90th. Pure underground! Thank's for that compilation!
nirvana bro
+++
they put in their time touring the underground before they became famous
@@lorenfulghum2393 moreover, they loved underground more than big stages, becouse they lived there and played for 10-50 people in front of the stage. eyes-to-eyes. Big stages gives a lot of money, but not the old warm feelings.

Bleach is my favorite album ever.
Kurt is a better guitar player than he thinks he is. It’s raw but I’d be less of a person without it in my life.
he looked so happy
Thanks R.I.P KC🤘🏽
This stays true to the vibe of the original. This is so beautiful
Jonathon LeMay the original was a pure “professional ” slicker done film. Clear and more of a good time nirvana sugar coated. This is cool bc even though camera work is not as perfect as the original, i do like the variety and amount of live clips and more modern reality doc and not so shiny. Searching for in utero ||
@@HGZMO it is on archive.com
After watching this it's clear Chad Channing was a very solid drummer, but as soon as you hear Grohl's pummeling, you hear the difference.
It's cool to hear Kurt actually solo a bit differently here he actually tries
Chad Channing was better!!raw and power
Artistically I like Chads style, Dave was just a bit more tight loud and seasoned
@@ronnynolegsDave is a hard hitting metronome. Not only can he play exactly what Channings plays but he can play it harder with more energy and control the speed and make the band chase his tempo. He's all around better. That being said, any local band would do very well with Chad Channing. He is that good
@@stuartewoldt1513 Basically what I said. Lol so we kind of agree
Kurt has something to say to you at 5:04. He wants you to believe in yourself. You could also do great things to the world; you may be lost inside but you will always be worth it. Every brick is integral as long as you are building for a greater purpose --way bigger than yourself.
This is so we'll put together. I can't describe. Was captivated from start to Finnish. Esential nirvana fan viewing.
I feel so blessed to see this treasure, thirty six years later, and on the exact date. What a great way to start the new year! I’m going to enjoy playing these riffs on my guitar❤🎉
90s FOREVER BEST ERA OF OUR LIFES....❤
When you perform in a big crowd and they love it gives you a sense to not stop playing
I remember hearing these songs on the B sides and underground tapes we got from NYC. its awesome to watch them being performed live.
Whoever did this deserves a big thank you

BLEACH ERA is my favorite! I'm still upset that Chad Channing didn't get inducted into the RRHOF like the rest! If Kurt was still alive he would've wanted Chad inducted.
That's shocking...All of the Ramones original members got one.

You are 100% correct my friend!
This is awesome, it's so well done. Thanks for sharing it
dear nirvana guitar players if you want to sound like pre-bleach era kurt cobain AeroZeppelin guitar a crucial factor is your tuning. Change your tuner setting from A=440 to A=425 (it's a lot lower) and tune your guitar like you normally would that way. Also make sure your whole band tunes this way to get the authentic sound.
What about nevermind or in utero? I never messed with that setting
@@rebd00mer93 To get the authentic huge Nevermind sound tune to A=444, and for In Utero it's just normal A=440

The minute I watched the intro, I gave this video a like. Superb editing and all the shows from pre-Nevermind were legendary chronicles in the start of Nirvana.
Much appreciated! 'twas fun to make!!
His advice was the best,
Practice!,
and it doesn't matter how it looks or packaged its the sound that matters. What made Nirvana was the unique sounds and the way it jazzed you up! Well done, whomever has done this 👏 👏 👏
glad that Chad was there
and that Kurt used Guitars that resembled more of that sexy SG style that i love while going all full BLEACH mode
I've started to notice in the early videos of Dave playing with Nirvana, he uses the ride as a crash almost exclusively, while later on he almost always used the two towering crashes to crash on almost every measure of a song, which takes so much considering how high they were are how hard he hit. it's a small thing, but just thought I'd mention it to see if anyone else noticed that.
You know...you're right (ba-dum TISH!). Honestly, well spotted. I'll bet his style shifted a tonne across those early shows as he adjusted from playing with Scream to joining Nirvana. Likewise, as they started writing new material and combining styles.
I also wonder if he had a smaller setup at first given he had to lug his kit from LA up to Seattle for those shows when he joined (listening to the audible of Grohl's new book and he describes this move as a quick decision - its a great listen if you haven't yet FYI).
Amazing!
Nirvana rocks

kurt was a guitar prodigy
Hungus Segundus not really he played simple riffs and he played 7 years before bleach
@@Stufy76 ok , It's my point of view
He could take simple notes and put his own twist on them, making them sound incredible. Big cheese during the solos and very end of song are examples of this. That ending will give you goosebumps!
He's a songwriting prodigy, which is the end result of anybody that calls themselves a musician.
Thanks

This is very high quality and should be more visible to the world. I watched Live Tonight Sold Out pretty much until the video tape wore out, and if this had been out no doubt that it would have gotten worn out as well!!! Excellent job and I am not even finished yet. Please do the Un Utero one as well. This should get promoted, but hopefully it will get populat through word of mouth so people can enjoy it as much as I am! Excellent work my friend! It also highlights why they got rid of Chad Channing. Every pub band drummer you ever see rolled all into one!
