Funny thing is I have computer science degree and just switching the career for my company to A/V tech. I have some knowledge but luckily I am shadowing a guy who has been in A/V industry for 20 years.

Hello, I'm a live sound engineer from Los Angeles, CA interested in switching careers. I've kept a close eye on the AV Installer field for years. With respect to the professionals being interviewed, I have found it extremely difficult to locate resources and even colleges that offer entry level AV training. I am very unsure what my first steps are and most AV jobs posted require years of experience. The AVIXA beginners training courses are for those who already hold a job in AV. Anyways, Im a newbie. If you have any tips as how to get started(in Los Angeles) it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
big money & stable is in enterprise AV operation/event/production.
Get the CTS (certified technician specialist) book 3rd edition. It is only $ 40 on Amazon and it has the knowledge you need to know starting with basic av. After that you have the installer on and the CTS designer.
