There are way more nonenfrenchised players then enfrenchised ones. And yes, the goal is to get every dollar they can get because they are a company and this is late stage capitalism. What did you expect?
Bro everybody only bought set boosters. At my lgs people didn't even buy boosters if only draft boosters were available because set boosters were already sold out
The idea is that mass market stores like Walmart etc. don't like high cost boosters, they're easy shoplifting etc. Pokemon does 3 card packs sometimes called "fun packs" for stores like Dollar Tree that are usually 2 commons and a reverse foil of a random rarity for this same reason. Pokémon is obviously a slightly different marketing deal but if value packs were like $1 for like 2 common/uncommons and a guaranteed foil of any rarity, it'd at least be a cute little way for a kid to collect some foils. Personally I'd have liked to have seen 3 commons, 2 uncommons and a rare with no foils or alt-treatments at like $1.50 or something, just a cheap way to build a collection and you could do a cute little alt draft format with the DuelMasters style ( Open and combine 2 packs for each opening )
Not really though... to get someone fixed on you need to make them high... is there a bigger low out there than spending money on a pack without rares?
Note on the Sweet Baby Inc mention…I meant to say, how do they make the determination about players feelings on set boosters, did they use SBI consulting provided data?

This is 100 percent just an attempt to replace the walmart repacks of boosters with something cheaper without the value of the rares and mythics going down. Just a way to upsell bulk
I think they are still trying to shove a lower card count per pack down our throats so we get used to it. I think eventually WotC wants to go back to 7-8 card booster packs. Take Arena for example. Buy a pack on there and its only 8 cards..... Just my two cents
I see why they did the value pack but its still a money grab. Having full priced commander boxes and booster packs at 'mass market stores' like walmart and Target is harder not just to sell but to keep secure. Its actually sad how some stores either dont address stolen cards/ripped packaging or have to resort to putting them behind a counter. Thats been my experience at least, so value packs are meant to keep magic inside these stores, not just to deincentavice the stealing with non-guaranteed rares and fewer cards but to keep its target audiance interested: not the mtg players but the guardians of kids and curious consumers.
On another note, this is still a money grab, yes. Rather than focusing on gamestores who bleed from preordered and failing sets, wotc turns its attention to bigger stores to bring in players into a state of the game that is steep to invest in. Funny that value packs could have worked to engage everyday mtg players, even in a limited play format, but instead values misleading non-mtg players
@@BensonMTG I’m pretty sure he had to sell to WotC back in the day. He comes back to help design a set every now and then. The last set he helped work on was the original Dominaria from 2018, one of the great Magic sets.

Here, the games history of lore and mechanics and functions are being changed to make what they think is a more equitable product.
Why not just lower the price on all products instead?
That’s a pin 📌
Value boosters are either for dollar stores to offer boosters or they needed to hit minimums with the printers to secure beyond booster print runs
That’s an interesting theory.
If the Value booster literally has no value, why does it exist?
Papa Hasbro demanded it.
"they are not a product the vast majority of enfranchised players won't ever interact with" then why make it? To get new players to waste money?
Exactly. Like and sub for more 🤩🤔🥳

@@Crypt4l I can see that perspective. Their end goal is to make money. The big shots on Hasbro don’t care about collectability.

I preferred set boosters myself

Your comment provides a thoughtful and balanced idea, WOTC isn’t capable of that. I liked the 6 card mini packs
MTG for a little while
Definitely not a product I can recommend to ANYONE
Thanks for the video. Interesting response from Maro.. seems half-baked.. like my bowl. 😆
not sure what will get you, lame-ass boosters or that grass, both are bad for ya :P
They're essentially a gateway drug.

This is not going to be carried by any of my local shops. Ever. I took a poll.
I wonder if this is a special only sold to big box stores.

I didn’t think of it that way. Those repacks are done by third party copackers, most likely.
they're making these so they can still raise the price of everything else
Seems like a diversion …”look at these cheapy packs, pay no mind to this over here 👈 “
What do you mean by "how do you gague set boosters are more popular"? Have you heard the word sales numbers?
They have no way of knowing how much stores sold. Sales doesn’t give full picture, either.

That’s a great point about bleeding out the game stores (LGS). If they make a trash set, it’s the LGS left holding the bag.
Fire Rosewater, put Richard Garfield in charge again ❤
Why isn’t he in charge 🤔 that might be a new video topic

Wait what about Marxism? How does this have anything to do with “sweet baby inc”

Here, the games history of lore and mechanics and functions are being changed to make what they think is a more equitable product.
@@BensonMTG well yeah totally but do you think that they had something to do with value boosters? I didn’t know they were working with WOTC
They might have used consultant data to make that determination. Orgs like SBI trace everything to affordability, money is the problem etc.
@@BensonMTG so SBI is linked to WotC? Makes sense, those people just want to push their Marxist price hikes and shrinkflation 🤬
Sets like these should be precons..... out of universe sets are unsets at best.
Money laundering.
