    I've always played Minecraft when I'm burnt out because it's easier for me to build a low risk thing in Minecraft then to make something that lessens my supplies when I know I won't be happy with something. Even when I have writers block, there's no risk to making a poem but I just cannot make myself do it, so I tend to play older Minecraft to make sure I'm not overwhelmed with anything. Also your props are always so pretty

      It's always been my natural reflex as well which is why I wanted to make this video!

    Man, what a poetic way to sum up minecraft, and the struggle that artists go through. As a writer myself, this really hit home for me, and honestly made me think of minecraft differently, so thank you

    i was scrolling through my subscriptions to see what new has been posted and wouldnt you know it - a video from the channel i saw a month ago and loved the presentation of.
    and better yet its about art block
    id like to say that only days ago did i decide to finally give up with art because i had been struggling with it for so long. i told myself i would never create again (i know that sounds melodramatic but like ive been struggling with art block for so long, and it almost always seems active and the times im not under art block are so short and sparse)
    seeing this video feels almost like i needed to see it
    lovely video :)
    i think i will try a new minecraft playthrough maybe it will help me. thank u

      Wow, what a lovely comment thank you. I'm sorry you have found yourself in such a rut but I'm very glad the video has helped see a path forward. Just remember to be kind to yourself, and also keep in mind that the beauty of art is that it can exist in your life to whatever degree you wish. You may consume it, produce it, and otherwise interact with it on your terms always. I don't know what you create or why but I do know that it's only over when you feel the passion and you choose to ignore it. As long as you follow your instinct, even if it never takes you where you'd like to go. You're still being creative.

    How does this video have less than four hundred views?
    It's scary to me how RUclips is so utterly burying so many good works and artists.

      Thanks! Some videos do better than others. I try not to appeal to the algorithm because it feels like a creative compromise, I'm fortunate enough to make my living elsewhere so RUclips is a nice hobby and creative outlet. Stick around if you'd like! Plenty more where this came from!

      @@Grave_of_the_Sea I'd like to hear more about that Asket. If you have other ideas for videos send me a discord DM. I can never promise that I'll make something that someone asks for but it's always helpful to hear audience feedback. I know you'll watch whatever I put out but I want to try to catch more people like you!

    This is probably dumb but do you have any advice for getting rid if that “perfect or nothing” mindset? I’ve had it my whole life to the point that now I can’t even play games like Minecraft or Terraria, let alone create anything. I don’t know if any of that made sense.

    • @RivetingMaterial
      @RivetingMaterial  Год назад

      It does make sense, if you'd like we can talk more about this over discord. You can join the channels server and send me a DM so we can have a more in depth discussion. Ultimately I can't speak to your experience or your mind. But when it comes to making things, you're trying to beat "you" in pretty much every possible way.
      If you're focusing on the negatives of that then it's "you're your own harshest critic" but the positive angle is "I couldn't do this a year ago, I've become better than my past self.". I think it's easy to grow up with this sense that you've gotta be some kind of child prodigy, but the truth is everyone needs to grow, no one's the best at anything and honestly I have so much more respect for the people that can admit their mistakes and limitations then the people who refuse to accept failure when it smacks them in the face. There's that quote from rocky that says "it's not about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and continue moving forward" that's how I think about failure.
      When I'm passionate about something I will deeply fixate on it and I wont eat/sleep/drink water enough until I've finished whatever it is I'm focused on. And when it doesn't work out, or when it all falls apart (which has definitely happened my fair share of times). It hurts like crazy, but when I swallowed that hurt it becomes really easy to look at the mistakes I made and make sure I didn't make them again. That's improvement. Getting something right feels awesome, but the trade off is that you might not learn anything. Sounds cliche but it's really true.

    • @RivetingMaterial
      @RivetingMaterial  Год назад

      And it's also important to consider that perfection is the enemy of "good enough" look a the things that other people make, or even ask an artist your really respect "what are some things you had to let go of to finish this piece" and if they're good, then they'll point to a scratch, or something they patched up, or something they just don't love about what they've made. It's just a part of being creative.
