A float valve on the water barrel inlet would make sure it wouldn't overflow if you left the hose running too long. If all your fittings are up to the pressure, you could leave the hose on all the time while it's not freezing, and the float valve would manage it for you. One less thing to remember!

This is great information. I love that you included clips of what other farmers do. Do you have a video that goes into detail once you put the pigs in the forest? Like how much space you give them per pig & if you rotate you do rational grazing & how long they stay in one place? I watched one video where the farmer had polywire enclosing a large area in the woods (maybe an acre or more) & just moved their water & feed around the area instead of creating multiple paddocks. What are your thoughts on that? We are looking at getting up to 5 pigs. My husband works 50 hrs a week so I need things to be low maintenance and maneageable.
Hey, one large pen and moving the feed is definitely a good idea for low maintenance. Did you go for that in the end? We tend to fence off areas and rotate the pig as it can be very wet here are the land needs some time off when the pigs have been on during the colder months.

2/4/24 13:20 good afternoon my name is Benjamin I’m a critical care nurse, and on my spare time, I started gardening, vegetables and transitions to raising chickens for eggs. It was a wonderful experience and enjoy the process as well as teaching our children/children from the neighborhood that eggs don’t grow in the store. Lots of work goes in to producing delicious, healthy food. I would like to learn more about hog raising and love your video. We are currently located in New York City and need to find out the legalities, however, plan to retire a small farm/Homestead where I can have some hogs chickens and maybe goats as well as plant my own vegetables to keep busy.. I would love to learn more about different breeds, how/what I would need to release start
Awesome video thank you! I’m starting pigs shortly and building the paddock now. The space we have is 20’x50’ with concrete floor. Trying to do the math on what we will need for feed and also how to setup a pasture area as well. Thanks for all the information
I like that you let your pigs out into the woods. I was wondering if you or anyone who might read this knows of a pig that would be suited to south texas, hardiness zone 9b, hot and dry or hot and humid most of the year.
Most pigs should be good with the heat as long as they have a mud wallow to cool off in and shade to get out of the sun. Buying your stock from a local breeder who’s animals are used to the local climate is your best bet.
And what to do with them when they are grown. I heard locally to make a date with the butchers when to bring them. And hook up the trailer and bring them there. Anything to add? We won't be doing it ourselves.
We started out with a tiny back yard garden and dreams of farming. I now have a massive garden, 6 chickens and 5 ducks. This weekend we add our first 2 pigs and I’m so excited!!! This video was so helpful for a first timer. Thank you so much!!

Well you got me sold. Been looking for a piece of land up in Littleton area. No luck yet. Have a great Memorial weekend.
Love seeing the collaborations with others. Have been thinking about getting a parcel and getting a little more self reliant. I've only ever had a dog.....

Thanks for all the information

thats awesome. hopefully when i move out of the parents house i can get a little land so i can farm and garden.
Thank you for all the great info guys!
