    My local VW Specialist wants to charge me £468 to replace the alleged 'heater motor mechanical malfunction' due to put heater blower just not working when I went to start my 2012 Passat estate one day - thought at that cost it would involve removing half the dash - Thank you so much for posting this informative video - definitely a job for me at the weekend 👍

    I got the blower motor out today! Thanks for this video which really helped! I found there are 2 little arrows to help you align the blower motor in the right place when you turn it round to take it out. One on the blower motor and one on the surround. It helps if you put a mirror on the floor of the car so you can see what you're doing. To get the blower motor out you turn it about 20 degrees clockwise as you look up from underneath. Definitely clockwise. That's in a right hand drive VW Passat B6. I used a screwdriver to push on the tab to move the motor round because I couldn't budge it with my bare hands. It almost fell out once I'd lined up those arrows.

    The little trick to remove the glove box is magical and saves me tons of time. Thanks a lot for your excellent video ! Just a tip for those guys who want to apply the kilma cleaner to the evaporator, if you are working on a VW CC, no need to take blower motor out. the evaporator can be reached by taking cabin filter out.

    Fab video, just removed mine as I have a high pitched squeak! The lower clip seemed to push towards the firewall if anyone gets stuck. I used a combination of brake cleaner and then some GT bike cleaner with PTFE. I think its fixed the issue! I would also add for anyone doing this job to replace their cabin filter as you are right next to it :) Thanks again!

    Brilliant! Thanks for a great video. Mine started making a loud rattling noise, then stopped altogether. Someone had been in there before me and not located it properly - not giving that final push to locate the tab properly. I slotted it back in and gave it a test, then gave it the final push to locate the tab. That last push is much harder than you want to push, but it did go in. Just make sure you aren't pinching any wires when the glove box goes back in, especially along the bottom and right sides.

    Great vid, thanks. Couple of notes to save extended reference to Haynes manual like I had today... 1. It's 1 T20 torx not a T15. 2. It's righty loosy, lefty tighty, at least it was on my 2010 Australian Passat. As in, turn blower clockwise to remove, anti to install. For the record: fuck brushed motors. Horrible things. May you have an easier time than I did. P.S. You probably don't even need to remove the glovebox to get this done, in hindsight. However, being able to see what is going on the first time you do it is very helpful. Awesome tip on the glovebox removal.

    awesome -- thanks for this video. i took my vw to a non-vw repair shop because (what i thought) the resistor had gone bad due to the fan speed control being stuck at full on blast. the mechanic told me it was in fact the blower motor. so i leave it to the mechanic to fix, and return to pick up the car. sitting in my driver's seat was an odd looking piece of plastic. thanks to your video, i now know it was the bracket you popped out from the side compartment. apparently the mechanic didn't think it was important to replace that. one week in, and the blower motor is making a horrible clicking sound, like it's either got something in between the blades or it's pulling an incorrect amount of power. it's very "electrical" whining and whirring sound. i'm definitely going to give this a go based on your video. i originally thought the blower motor on mine was in the foot well where the resistor is, but the sound it's now making is definitely coming from right behind the dash and glovebox. long comment to say thanks for this!

    This is great. One thing... my motor unit spun off in the opposite direction to this one. I thought it was stuck fast but once I had the securing clip raised and rotated the motor clockwise (viewed from below, looking upwards) it came out very easily. Useful video though, esp on screw hole and clip locations. Cheers!

  • @johnneedham2371
    @johnneedham2371 8 месяцев назад

    Great video. It was a great help with fixing my car. Only observation is I think you are rotating fan assembly in wrong direction. It’s clockwise to loosen and remove, anti clockwise to tighten. It works easier that way and the shape of the plastic tabs is clearly tapered for this direction. I definitely fits easier this way,

    Excellent video, thank you, everything went splendidly, all out and back together within an hour and I did take my time, checking against your video as I went. Only real problem and obviously the reason for the fuses blowing, the fan motor was seized, thought I'd give it a fiddle before shelling out for new one though. Serious dose of WD40, left for a couple of minutes had it moving by hand, several spins back and forth and another liberal dose saw it moving smoothly. All now good apart from an annoying high pitched squeal but mitigated by the fragrance of WD40. If the squeal persists I'll disassemble the lot and try again, but for the time being I'll put up with the noise, it's too cold in the barn!

    Hi, thanks for the video. I had got stuck at the point were the glovebox would not come out after removing all screws.
    A couple of additional comments though, the fan turns clockwise to release and anticlockwise to tighten (opposite to normal)2011 with automatic climate control, there is also a square screw tab that aligns with a screwpost that for some reason vw hasn't used, a small self tapper in this tab will securely lock the fan positively in the correct orientation.

    Awesome video, took me about 15minutes after watching. One tip if you are struggling to get the fan back in take out the silver torx on the bottom bracket, it only takes a few extra seconds then you can twist the bracket out of the way a few inches and the fan slips right in. (Can see it to the bottom left of the fan housing on the vid at 1:19)

    Incredible video - thank you so much for this. VW quoted me $500 to replace mine and I just did it for $115.
    Only comment is my 2008 Passat 2.0T had T20 screws, not T15. I don’t know if the tech that replaced the fan the first time just used different screws or VW switched it up for my car.
