Black Myth Wukong is based on Journey to the West and you are telling me there is lack of women?? As someone who read the novel and watched many series about Journey to the West, there are MANY women and very beautiful women. When Wukong goes to heaven, there literally more women and than men! Zhu Bajie, who is one of Wukongs companion, the little pig in Dragon Ball Z, is the most perverted character in the series, chasing women, peeking through a tiny hole watching women shower. Zhu Bajie does this the entire series! There are TONS of women in the story!

@@user-dj9iu2et3r...I don't know what you're talking about, it's pretty accurate, a lot of the characters he fights in the trailer show up in the book, and those areas modeled in game actually exist(ed) irl. This seems to follow almost exactly the plot of JttW with minor modifications. there are a significant amount of the deities in the trailer, you can literally see some of the 72 constellations as well as Buddha of the future (and one of the female deities). The original novel has ~44 female deities as well. Chinese game developers will not besmirch Wukong's legacy, though there are some creative liberties.

Recommend Specs does not always mean you can max out the settings. A lot of games Rec Specs simply mean 1080p 60fps on high. For all we know she was trying to play it at native 4k cinematic settings.

Sorry but lack of diversity isn’t a valid criticism… but this is what the state of criticism has come to after years of normalizing absurdity. I expect someone to have a level of personal bias and preferences… that’s understandable… but it has no place in critiquing by such criteria by a paid professional… or for that matter anyone who presents as a critic. It becomes instantly obvious how absurd this is when you substitute diversity with anything else not part of actual criticism… the diversity quotient is only a valid criticism if the game set out to and was pushed as it being a game fundamentally about diversity… than it becomes a valid point of contention. This is no better than people who instantly right off anything that has been labeled woke… even if it isn’t woke, even those people have a legitimate concern as there are no game devs who are “red pilled” or what ever anti woke ideology who have stated their sole purpose is to dismantle woke practices… their existence no arm of the government that has a deliberate intent to dismantle woke ideology… no anti woke consultant firms. Again all of that seems absurd because the backlash or counter movement is not off the day… but on their own logistical merits they are comparable examples. It’s torcheres to watch otherwise intelligent people go through such mental gymnastics when people try to defend this kind of stuff because they happen to ideologically agree with the politics of said person… but you can’t use logic to defend illogical or intellectually bankrupt ideas. I suppose there is one other caveat, that doesn’t really justify using uncritical methodology for criticism… if the outlet has a stated and obvious brand in which they lens every topic through said lens… we don’t get made at the onion for printing satire and fake news… because it what they do. I mean games like Devil May Cry and Shooters u notice the diference Trilogy on ps2 had unlocked framerate but would reach 40 max Ps3 and ps4 remasters trilogy have a consistent 60fps Dmc4 and Reboot DMC also had an updated version on PS4 which u will notice And dmc5 was already 60fps but on ps5 goes up to 120fps I can notice alot of changes from 30 to 60, so im sure this type of game also ita relevant

Hello david, this is a chinese gamer's humble opinion on reviews like these. First, I think sweetbaby is hurting arts. You dont see me going around writing articles about art pieces that have tits out and try to force the world to ban nudity. That is just my opinion, and I won't force people to agree with me and change their art product. Secondly, I think if this is just her personal opinion instead of a review with a substantial audience. I would not mind. Meaning I agree with you. Her editor should not put this out as off this is a solid review. And you even mentioned the sexist comments, etc. as my knowledge goes, those are reports with zero evidence. Merely an attack to the studio.She did this review with a vandetta against this game. It was personal to her to give a 4 to 4.5 game a 3. Even when she did not finish the game which you mentioned. Give you credit for that.
Yup, that review was crazy, and they actually even mentioned in the beginning parts of the review for Starfield that there was and is plenty of enjoyable aspects of the game and of a bethesda game, and later literally doesn't even mention why the game deserves a 4/10 that is specific to the game itself.

All of the company's "mysoginistic trait" claims have been proven to be malicious hit pieces created through gross mistranslations of metaphors idioms and memes with no backing, which should be grounds to legal action against the articles from the company. 3. DEI has no place in games. It adds nothing and takes away quality and satisfaction. The characters in the game should have their own personality and traits which make them likeable or hated. The characters should have "SUBSTANCE", and not a faux "diversity index" to show how good a character is. It does not matter if the character is a half asian half african giraffe with three legs and one arm coming out of it's head as long as they have "SUBSTANCE" and add to the story the creator of the game is trying to convey. 4. Black Myth Wukong is a love letter game to what games are in their original form, a JOURNEY worth EXPERIENCING to the fullest and none of the reviews preaching about inclusivity and unfounded claims of mysogyny are going to take away from what it is, which is simply a great game. 5. There are some drawbacks to the game though. The deliniation between areas you are able to traverse to, through and from are sometimes unclear and the final boss of the 2nd chapter has grossly bad design in it's second phase. And that is all that is wrong with the game. 6. In objective terms the game should be rated anywhere between 8.5 to 9.5 depending on the subjective tastes of the player in terms of gameplay and what an adventure game means to them, my rating being further towards 9.5.

I don't know when a game has to be deducted for not being soul-like? Is soul-like the only thing left in the world? Should DMC and GOD WAR also be rated 6/10? Should GTA and Red Dead Redemption be rated 0/10? They are not even ARPGs.
This Screen Rant "editor" also works at a consultant firm equivalent to sweet baby inc. The jig is up! People at these consulting firms become reviewers, trash games based on diversity and inclusion so that future developers will run to these consultants and pay to not have this negative press about their game in the reviews. That's why this review doesn't make sense. The game is literally a bunch of furries fighting. The only actual humans I've seen in this game are 3 sisters and their mother that was in the cut scene trailer that game science released and one guy in the final trailer.
I don't agree. Everyone comes to art with their own set of filters. As long as you make it clear- and she does- what your filters are, I think that's the right way to do it.

She say the game is diverse in item and mechanic (also mention that each boss is unique), but saying that the game is repetitive.
Lack of women, eh? When the second most powerful character in the whole JTTW novel, after the Buddha himself, and whom even Sun Wukong himself fears and reveres was Bodhisattva Guanyin, the GODDESS of mercy and compassion. Plus, there were also plenty of other major female characters in the novel such as Baigujing (Lady White Bone), Princess Iron Fan, the moon goddess Chang'e, the queen of an all-female nation, reminiscent of Amazonian women, and so on and so forth.
Isn't the claim from the reviewer that the source material the game is pulling from is what makes it so strange that the game itself is lacking in diversity ?? @@user-dj9iu2et3r Well the actual review does tell you what kind of game it is lol... and that line actually does tell you or at least insinuate and I'm sure the reviewer is guessing or assuming you know what the game's narrative, settings, and what it's based from. I think it's quite clear they're telling you if the monkey world and chinese folktale atmosphere is interesting to you, that's more of what will rope you in rather than thinking this is going to rival a top tier souls game.
There was a story trailer a few years back with only women in it. Granted I have not played the game. There may be a chance the devs removed all those characters. But after seeing that ttrailer I find it very hard to believe there are no women in the game.
If there is significant performance issues after Chapter two, this can be easily debunked when the game launches. The lack of female characters after chapter two can also be debunked too. They already showed off the Spider Women in a previous trailer a few years ago. I doubt they will cut them out. So I would like to see a follow up with Screen Rants criticism once the game launches on Tuesday.

I have serious problem with her saying the art itself is not "diverse" enough for her. The game is based on a treasured Chinese cultural artefact called Journey to West. This means what she is saying is that she rejects the Chinese culture because she is unable to retrofit her modern west culture onto the Chinese culture, that she is unable to gut and change Chinese culture into the western culture. Her statement itself is extremly exclusive and discriminative in nature, and it is a rather imperialistic statement to make!
The short explanation for the wukong reviews so far: Wukong's low metric score was mostly cause by some unbelievably woke reviews, there's like dozens Media blaming wukong for not being gender diverse enough and giving it 60. So we know that this metric is straight up bull shit, no body should treat them seriously. Yet it's important to note that although IGN didn't blame wukong for being woke less. They were also being extremely unfair to wukong, for being bias towards it's narrative and the culture. IGN had reason to take away one point from wukong because some bug they encountered. There's indeed few bug in the game mostly related to translation errors and opening chest. Something that game science acknowledge and currently they're working on fixing it. Almost no game is perfect, so that's acceptable. But everything else they mentioned is total bull shit. Wukong totally don't deserve a 8 based on the reason they point out in the reviews. Apparently IGN could not understand the story, because they know nothing about journey to the west before starting the game. He believes game science needs to explain the whole book to him in the game. Bitch i don't know any god of war characters when i started, but i never blamed them for not explaining these western mythology to me. Somehow for Chinese mythology that's a sin? No souls game ever had a proper storyline. Elden ring and dark souls has one of the most confusing story telling ever, most people finishing the game had no idea what's going on. Unless they go back and read every source in the game. Somehow IGN never blame from software for lack of guidance, how is this not bias?😊
No review said the game is "unplayable". Some did mention the issues u said but not a single one said it's "unplayable". Also, the allegations against the studio have not been proven true either. IGN didn't give any evidence for such claim and the Chinese that they translated was also mistranslated, completely leaving out the nuances of a different language when translated to English.
Way off-base about the devs being misogynistic, even the original writer of that IGN article (from which all other outlets have since based their allegations against Game Science) started backpedaling and saying she didn't actually ever claim the devs are misogynistic - which is a blatant lie but now she knows the translations of the devs' posts were maliciously altered and taken out of context on purpose, as pointed out by actual Chinese players, including Chinese women, who said the devs' remarks were far from sexist.

Zhu Bajie, who is one of Wukongs companion, the little pig in Dragon Ball Z, is the most perverted character in the series, chasing women, peeking through a tiny hole watching women shower. Zhu Bajie does this the entire series!

@@user-dj9iu2et3r...I don't know what you're talking about, it's pretty accurate, a lot of the characters he fights in the trailer show up in the book, and those areas modeled in game actually exist(ed) irl. This seems to follow almost exactly the plot of JttW with minor modifications.
there are a significant amount of the deities in the trailer, you can literally see some of the 72 constellations as well as Buddha of the future (and one of the female deities). The original novel has ~44 female deities as well.
Chinese game developers will not besmirch Wukong's legacy, though there are some creative liberties.

Sorry but lack of diversity isn’t a valid criticism… but this is what the state of criticism has come to after years of normalizing absurdity.
I expect someone to have a level of personal bias and preferences… that’s understandable… but it has no place in critiquing by such criteria by a paid professional… or for that matter anyone who presents as a critic.
It becomes instantly obvious how absurd this is when you substitute diversity with anything else not part of actual criticism… the diversity quotient is only a valid criticism if the game set out to and was pushed as it being a game fundamentally about diversity… than it becomes a valid point of contention.

FPS is important for single player combat games in so far as you need at least 60 to enjoy it. Anything above that is gravy.
For example: GoW 2018 on PS5 at 120 FPS feels AMAZING to play.

Yup, that review was crazy, and they actually even mentioned in the beginning parts of the review for Starfield that there was and is plenty of enjoyable aspects of the game and of a bethesda game, and later literally doesn't even mention why the game deserves a 4/10 that is specific to the game itself.

1. Women are present in the game.
2. All of the company's "mysoginistic trait" claims have been proven to be malicious hit pieces created through gross mistranslations of metaphors idioms and memes with no backing, which should be grounds to legal action against the articles from the company.
3. DEI has no place in games. It adds nothing and takes away quality and satisfaction. The characters in the game should have their own personality and traits which make them likeable or hated. The characters should have "SUBSTANCE", and not a faux "diversity index" to show how good a character is. It does not matter if the character is a half asian half african giraffe with three legs and one arm coming out of it's head as long as they have "SUBSTANCE" and add to the story the creator of the game is trying to convey.
4. Black Myth Wukong is a love letter game to what games are in their original form, a JOURNEY worth EXPERIENCING to the fullest and none of the reviews preaching about inclusivity and unfounded claims of mysogyny are going to take away from what it is, which is simply a great game.
5. There are some drawbacks to the game though. The deliniation between areas you are able to traverse to, through and from are sometimes unclear and the final boss of the 2nd chapter has grossly bad design in it's second phase. And that is all that is wrong with the game.
6. In objective terms the game should be rated anywhere between 8.5 to 9.5 depending on the subjective tastes of the player in terms of gameplay and what an adventure game means to them, my rating being further towards 9.5.

This Screen Rant "editor" also works at a consultant firm equivalent to sweet baby inc. The jig is up! People at these consulting firms become reviewers, trash games based on diversity and inclusion so that future developers will run to these consultants and pay to not have this negative press about their game in the reviews. That's why this review doesn't make sense. The game is literally a bunch of furries fighting. The only actual humans I've seen in this game are 3 sisters and their mother that was in the cut scene trailer that game science released and one guy in the final trailer.

When the second most powerful character in the whole JTTW novel, after the Buddha himself, and whom even Sun Wukong himself fears and reveres was Bodhisattva Guanyin, the GODDESS of mercy and compassion. Plus, there were also plenty of other major female characters in the novel such as Baigujing (Lady White Bone), Princess Iron Fan, the moon goddess Chang'e, the queen of an all-female nation, reminiscent of Amazonian women, and so on and so forth.
Isn't the claim from the reviewer that the source material the game is pulling from is what makes it so strange that the game itself is lacking in diversity ?? I think it's quite clear they're telling you if the monkey world and chinese folktale atmosphere is interesting to you, that's more of what will rope you in rather than thinking this is going to rival a top tier souls game.
There was a story trailer a few years back with only women in it. Granted I have not played the game. There may be a chance the devs removed all those characters. But after seeing that ttrailer I find it very hard to believe there are no women in the game.

If there is significant performance issues after Chapter two, this can be easily debunked when the game launches. The lack of female characters after chapter two can also be debunked too. They already showed off the Spider Women in a previous trailer a few years ago. I doubt they will cut them out. So I would like to see a follow up with Screen Rants criticism once the game launches on Tuesday.

In the original novel, except for Sun Wukong, the other three became pregnant because they drank the river water of the Women's Kingdom. Sun Wukong often transformed into the lover of Yaoguai to obtain information/pranks.

I have serious problem with her saying the art itself is not "diverse" enough for her. The game is based on a treasured Chinese cultural artefact called Journey to West. This means what she is saying is that she rejects the Chinese culture because she is unable to retrofit her modern west culture onto the Chinese culture, that she is unable to gut and change Chinese culture into the western culture. Her statement itself is extremly exclusive and discriminative in nature, and it is a rather imperialistic statement to make!
The short explanation for the wukong reviews so far:
Wukong's low metric score was mostly cause by some unbelievably woke reviews, there's like dozens Media blaming wukong for not being gender diverse enough and giving it 60. So we know that this metric is straight up bull shit, no body should treat them seriously.
Yet it's important to note that although IGN didn't blame wukong for being woke less. They were also being extremely unfair to wukong, for being bias towards it's narrative and the culture. IGN had reason to take away one point from wukong because some bug they encountered. There's indeed few bug in the game mostly related to translation errors and opening chest. Something that game science acknowledge and currently they're working on fixing it. Almost no game is perfect, so that's acceptable.
But everything else they mentioned is total bull shit. Wukong totally don't deserve a 8 based on the reason they point out in the reviews. Apparently IGN could not understand the story, because they know nothing about journey to the west before starting the game. He believes game science needs to explain the whole book to him in the game. Bitch i don't know any god of war characters when i started, but i never blamed them for not explaining these western mythology to me. Somehow for Chinese mythology that's a sin?
No souls game ever had a proper storyline. Elden ring and dark souls has one of the most confusing story telling ever, most people finishing the game had no idea what's going on. Unless they go back and read every source in the game. Somehow IGN never blame from software for lack of guidance, how is this not bias?😊

No review said the game is "unplayable". Some did mention the issues u said but not a single one said it's "unplayable".
Also, the allegations against the studio have not been proven true either. IGN didn't give any evidence for such claim and the Chinese that they translated was also mistranslated, completely leaving out the nuances of a different language when translated to English.
Way off-base about the devs being misogynistic, even the original writer of that IGN article (from which all other outlets have since based their allegations against Game Science) started backpedaling and saying she didn't actually ever claim the devs are misogynistic - which is a blatant lie but now she knows the translations of the devs' posts were maliciously altered and taken out of context on purpose, as pointed out by actual Chinese players, including Chinese women, who said the devs' remarks were far from sexist.
