I found a half-dead baby pigeon 3 months ago that now rules my household. I've never met such a loving creature in my life. She can't be released since I handled her too much and is basically glued to me 24/7, but she's full of personality and very smart.
"She" turned out to be a "he". So he spent around 2 months watching this brown girl pigeon coming to our window and one day (recently) he decided to open the screen and go after her. He's still here, but they have a nest, and he comes daily to eat and drink water with her, so now I have two in love pigeons
I have been criticized by other teachers for teaching my secondary students about city ecosystems and putting the pigeon in there... The illusion that a human made structure can not be a 'natural' habitat is not very scientific. All of nature has been influenced by animals and plants, humans are just another animal to do such. Making our cities just another ecosystem.
Show your students (and your critics) the work of Capability Brown. Wealthy Britons hired him to surround their mansions with land that looks natural but is as artificial as a shopping mall.
They most definitely are not. While wild rats do tend to live in unsanitary places, that is merely a human caused problem and a human concept. To them, it is just home. The same with pigeons, which I would argue are probably cleanlier than the sewage rats. To add to that, the rodents and birds which we keep as pets are very cleanly and very good company, definitely not disgusting.

Ok but most of them DO NOT LOOK LIKE THAT...80% look haggard and busted and not like anything you just described, because the idiot pigeon fans keep feeding them the damn wrong food! @@draum8103 I never said they’re the most beautiful, just that the shiny colors on them are beautiful. Several kinds of birds can be beautiful at the same time.
I’ve loved pigeons for years because on my first day at an old job my boss was berating me for being inexperienced, and a pigeon flew in an open window and pooped on his head right in front of me.
Same. The way to my school had a popular park and my grandfather would often let me stay for a little while after classes before heading to the bus stop
When I had a fear of going into big cities (thanks, anxiety), seeing a pigeon actually really relaxed me. It was like... one tiny piece of nature in what felt like a concrete box.
I really like pidgeons since I was a kid, as I love animals and pidgeons are the ones closest to me most of the time. A week back I had a magical encounter with a pidgeon that wasn't scared of me at all even. It came back and even dared to go to sleep 2 meter next to me. I gave it some bread and kept company. Haven't seen him back since but I hope he will one day return and hang out a bit with me again.
Pigeons are actually my favorite animal. They play, they have loving and committed families. They express gratitude! They are just desperate and loving creatures... When you feed the pigeons, they will treat you literally as a giant parent pigeon if you feed them by spitting food at them. They will flock to you by the dozens if you do this.
@@5parakeetsvlogs80 I agree, they are an infestation eating our waste and occasionally stealing food directly from us. I had a fat lad crash straight into my head trying to steal a pastry I was eating. You ever lived next to the sea?
I work in a parking lot nowhere near water and im stuck with a small army of seagulls for 8 hours every day. i can totally understand why someone would hate them. I still love them however. They're reliable and have honest hearts.
I love pigeons, me and my wife call them "piggins" I love how they are polite, they dont make a fuss to get food (like seagulls do) they dont care what anyone thinks of them, and they just carry on with their day with what little they have, often shared with a loved one, like two love doves :)
Pigeons are very intelligent and self aware. They recognize themselves in mirrors, learn tricks easily, solve puzzles, and use magnetic fields to navigate.
@NightUniverse Unfortunately white doves often have health issues, so they shouldn't be bred anymore... Many have a disturbed sense of orientation and get lost and then die😖
Fact: Humans domesticated pigeons thousands of years ago. Pigeons now rely on humans to survive. Domesticating these birds means they have lost their own survival skills. Pigeons served in world wars, delivered messages for humans for many years, and were our closest friends for so long. And now so many people hate them for no reason. The truth is that humans abandoned these beautiful birds. It hurts my heart to think about.
Pigeons and Silver Gulls (seagulls) are two common birds that people don't seem to appreciate how successful they are at living and thriving around human habitation.
The Silver Gull is the species in the Genus Chroicocephalus that we call seagulls here in Australia. Seagull seems to be a catch all term used for many different species of gulls.
We have random seagulls all over the place where I live, because it's on their migration route I think. I saw one perching majestically on top of a light-pole at the supermarket just the other day, so I totally get what you're talking about with them living around humans. :)
I work in a place that gets a lot of pigeons. Honestly I love watching them wander around picking up nest material and hearing them coo all day. I've also heard they're one of the few animals that can actualy recognize themselves in a mirror
Had a pet pidgeon I usually woke up at a certian time to go to school When ever i decided to sleep more he would just go COO COO COO COO COO COO in my ear Woke me right up and when i came back he would just dance on me it was so adorable. Loved stealing my garlic bread too so i called him garli
@@ggmoyang lm from new York the reason we hate them is because if you sit on a park bench try to eat those s.o.b fly up and sit their and stare at you then shoo them away they fly and come right back.
I love pigeons honestly. Recently i've noticed that pigeons all have different personalities. It's really incredible. It's more than just "some are scared and some aren't". You can see them think and change their mind among weird personality quirks. Physically they're also very different. From how screwed up their feet are, to how well kept their feathers are (of how unbelievably disheveled), how many toes they're missing, list goes on! Also, they're just beautiful. Even the common pigeon that's in every city, the green/purple around their necks is stunning. When they're in the sunlight they shine like jewels.
@@Zanthia-06 Yup me too, I got the pigeons by chance because they were tame racing pigeons who landed in my garden at the pond, after having just crossed the English Channel exhausted (different year for each pigeon). Obviously live near the cliffs. I went and hand fed them and each time they decided to stay as a pet and I would pet them and hand feed them every day. I have one rat 🐀 still alive in the next room, poor little thing has been alone for a while because the other’s didn’t have such good genes (probably the breeder was in-breeding). His health isn’t good anymore but he would always enjoy sitting on my chest and looking into my eyes and then closing his eyes with pleasure as I massaged his face, head, and behind his ears.
City/sewer rats transmit diseases. They are loathed for good reason. I know rats are smart and social but pet rats are basically a different species. Pigeons are dirty and often miss a toe or an entire foot. They often have dirty feathers so they don't seem to care too much about taking a bath. So yeah flying rats seems to be a fitting lable for these birds.
@@moladiver6817 not really they are very clean if u watch them for even a short amount of time u will see they constantly groom . they lose limbs cause of the traps we put down or other predators and you can catch more diseases of other humans s.t.d Covid even common colds that are easily transmitted through something as simple as touch unlike pigeon diseases which I can only think of two harmful ones and even then it’s transmitted by poo
@@moladiver6817 You're another misinformed fella... pigeons preen and bathe as much as any other bird would. And they lose feet/toes due to something known as stringfoot. Pretty self-explanitory, but materials such as string, human hair, dental floss, etc. get stuck and constrict their feet.
For the record: the reason most people have never seen a baby pigeon is because they look exactly like adults by the time they are 30 days old. So, you probably have seen a baby pigeon, you just didn't know that's what you were looking at. I've raised and hand fed pigeons. It is amazing how fast they develop.
@@samarnadra I own pigeons and yeah I get what you mean they do look like adults but babys definitely dont and you can normally still tell if its a young pigeon or not if you look
They are born yellow, but very quickly grow in the feather patterns and colors they'll have as adults. They look more or less like small adult pigeons for most of their childhood.
that is actually a god weapon. Imagine being a soldier, and flocks of pigeons come towards you. You can't shoot all of them down. Imagine being at concert and a pigeon comes and blows the whole stage. There won't be even proof left. Hol up I gotta go man.
@Urban Student Prepper no I live in signapore and we eat in these ‘kopi tiams’ Which means coffee shop even doe it has other food and drinks lol go check what it looks like ‘Double yur search’
Pigeons are my favourite. Spent most of today keeping an eye on a fledgling perched on my balcony. He was there for a good 8 hours but has just flown off. Probably his first flight. Makes me so happy!
Pigeons and doves are the only birds that could live on the space station. Most birds drink by scooping up water in their beaks and letting it flow down their throats by gravity, something that would not work in space. Pigeons and doves drink by sucking up water and actively swallowing it like we do.
Yes, but the bird and the water in its beak are accelerated by gravity at the same rate, so as long as gravity is the only force acting on them, as would be the case on the space station, they will not move relative to each other and the water will not go down the bird's throat.
Pigeons saved many lives during the two world wars carring vita msgs many were shot down by the germans crossing enemy lines some of the pigeons flying very long distances recieved the highest milatary honors
I adore them, weve just had our third beautiful grey ringnecked pigeons come to feed - after only one a year ago, so happy as they're a rare sight in our thorn tree covered surroundings . Love them
Back in the 90s I split an apartment with a coworker and he found a pigeon dying by the sewer. We took care of it for a few weeks and he got better. He had a copper band on his leg and was told he was a racer. I don't know about that, but I used to walk around the neighborhood with him on my shoulder when I was drinking beer. My roommate wanted to get rid of him and dropped him off a few places like the park where he was found. He managed to find his way home every time and just stayed for hours on the back porch. I kept letting him back in but he did eventually leave and I never saw him again. It was a cool experience to have my little friend for a while. I wished I could have kept him.
Similiar, the difference being that i live in a small village and i own pigeons :D They are cute af, the only minus is they will never let anyone pet them
As a birdwatcher focusing on behaviors, I love the pigeon because they're so prevalent. My focus on urban pigeons focuses on foot damage, as many entrapments,by design or accidental, I have seen 20% or more in a feeding group have anything from a missing toe,to a non-existent foot. My name is Bicycle Bob and I approved this message and pigeons are all around some of the best flyers in the bird kingdom.
I’ve noticed this anecdotally too. When we recently visited Venice the pigeons in Venice proper wear what I’m used to in Philadelphia: lots of missing toes and sometimes whole feet. Occasionally you’d see one with a bit of plastic or string wrapped around their foot. In Murano, the pigeons were much healthier looking and were mostly intact. They were also all doing a lot of mating dances compared to the Venice pigeons just a short distance away.
One hundred thousand pegion serve during ww1 yet people still called this bird a sky rats. Come on, Cher Ami saved 200 lives just to deliver her message while lost a eye and her right leg. People still didn't appreciate this bird.
Back then they didn't think of them like that, pigeons (I prefer feral rock dove or city dove, more accurate, biologically all pigeons are doves, not all doves are pigeons...) were loved ever since we domesticated them in neolithic times (yep we've been buds with them for that long) until surprisingly recently. Pigeon hate didn't really begin until the 1930's and only really started big in the 60's. The flying rat term comes from a song and later a movie. A lot of the commonly regurgitated bullshit about pigeons (like them spreading disease) can be traced to, I think it was a park owner, or an urban architect and a deliberate effort to change the public opinion on pigeons so they could, you know, start to get rid of them. Loved/appreciated for thousands of years, suddenly hated within a few decades, because human be fickle like that. The generic overarching reason is, we started living more and more in dense cities. The way buildings evolved makes living with humans even more appealing to pigeons aside from our already standing mutually beneficial relationship, they all stem from rock doves, they nest on rocky cliffs.. What's a tall concrete building from their perspective? And we build those cliffs in close proximity of each other and litter the ground with food. We built the perfect pigeon home. Things like the fact pigeons poop everywhere they perch (they can't when they fly, so whenever a poop hits you from mid air, it wasn't a pigeon .) became more obvious, add marketing, bullshit claims, presto.. (obviously oversimplified but I don't want to write a thesis lol. ) We used to appreciate them a lot. That's why they are still used as symbols of love and peace. "White doves" are actually a white breed of pigeon not a different species of dove... (PS don't release white doves on weddings, most of them will die, they are tame and have no clue what to do after release and have 0 survival skills. Might as well sacrificially kill them on the altar, it's quicker, less cruel...) Pigeons are amazing, intelligent, emotional, make great pets. My carrier pigeon thinks I'm her mate lol. (She was a rescued feral squab, damaged legs and malformed foot. Gave her a forever home and boy I so do not regret it. I love her to bits.) ruclips.net/video/GgVJipl68ic/видео.html Lol sorry wall o text..
This is like saying you should respect the douchebag who lives across the street who is inconsiderate to all of his neighbors because his grandpa stormed Omaha Beach.
Our relationship with pigeons goes back more than 4 thousand years, the film " Our Oldest Feathered Friend " explains this relationship very well, and should be required showing in all schools.
I rescue and rehabilitate pigeons. I have always loved them. I used to have a lovely mascot called Olive. She attended events, has met the mayor and even had her own Instagram. She was very intelligent. She passed in March, but she left behind an egg. That hatched and now there's Olive Junior.
They don't explicitly remember their movements but it has been proven that they have certain magnetic receptors in their heads that make it easy for them to find their position in the world. I read something about an experiment where they tied a magnet to a poor pigeon's head and the pigeon couldn't find its way back because the magnet was messing with its internal compass.
I found a baby pigeon in a river... it felt from the nest. I forced feed him for a few days, then he started to eat by itself. The first day I brought my pigeon, now looking like an adult, outside and allowed it to fly... I was hoping it would explore a little then come back to land on my shoulder. The pigeon made a large circle then decided to land on the roof of a commercial building. I climbed the firefighter escape ladder, approached slowly and he just stayed there, allowing me to bring him back home. I presume he got scared from his first flight and ould not decide neither to fly back toward me, neither to fly away when I came back. It is very hard to guess the emotional state of birds. They don't express their emotion as clearly as mammals do. Guessing the mood of tyranosaur was probably as hard. What, you want to eat me? Bad dinosaur!
birds that live in the city seem to be used to humans, a bird (idk its name) with sharp lookin long wings with blue outlines flew into my house, it kept clinging on to the curtains, when i reached in to grab it, it simply stared at me and just let me grab it as if it knew i was gonna help it get out, even tho i grabbed it awkwardly on my first try which it didnt like so it chirped and flapped its wings so i would release it and get a better and more comfortable grip on the bird to release it outside
Get a parrot. You'll be interacting with him, and you'll learn how to recognize a lot of his behavior so you'll understand how he's feeling. You might even get him to talk to you.
even better than a parrot, get a pigeon! they're a domesticated species already, better suited to confinement than (still wild) parrots, easily trained, and don't have behaviourally-detrimental hormonal cycles!
I live in apartments. I have watched 15 (or 17, I'm losing count) pigeons grow up and take off. They really do squeeze into the darkest and quietest places.
Pigeons actually have flat feet unlike most other birds. They actually prefer foraging on the ground because that’s what is most comfortable for them! That’s also why they prefer cities, their flat feet are meant for nesting on cliffs and sky scrapers are a great way to mimic that! It also takes a lot of energy for them to fly.
@Ziba Nejad but the pigeons are smarte then those other birds my friend had pigeon and he sold it out about 10 times to diffrent people but he came home 10 times
@Saad Iftikhar Actually, Húginn is the name of a famous raven, not a swine. But ravens are notoriously bad spellers too, or perhaps it’s on purpose to show disdain for what it considers a lesser bird species.
I love pigeons! A while back, two pigeons went on our balcony and made a nest. By the time we realised, they had already lain eggs, so we let them stay there. Even after the egg didn't hatch, they kept returning! We even got pigeon feed at some point to feed them. After a lot of attempts, they successfully hatched an egg, and we named the baby "Waffles". Waffles grew up, and the couple kept trying and trying, until they hatched another, egg, and we named that new baby "Cheese"! They're both grown up now and all of the pigeons still come back(a few new ones have also arrived too). Pigeons are wonderful animals, and are so different from the "rats with wings" label people put on them. They're an underrated animal and deserve much more love
In my city pigeons are quite different from their European counterparts. The noise they make is a mix of a crow and a seagull and they almost never come to the ground, hang out on trees all the time (probably 'cause of many cats). A tiny part of pigeon's evolution?
Everyone hates pigeons? WTF? In from a 3rd world country and we live them. They are so cute and yes they are intelligent. I have raised some at home and I love them.
Roman Popyk all pigeons are still the same type of pigeons...all pigeons have extraordinary navigation abilities. “Homing” pigeons are just faster than their feral counter part. City pigeons are the way they are because we made them that way.
I used to, I liked them for like 9 years. A pair of pigeons nested by the front door of my house. They’re so fascinating and docile. They like people and I think they’re like dogs with wings.
I went to the Copenhagen (capital of Denmark) train station a couple days ago, it was a roofed building but doors and such were open. There were quite a few pigeons just casually strolling about, occasionally getting chased by young kids. The station has several fast food places and there was a pigeon walking around inside the McDonald's there. None of the pigeons looked particularly distressed or anything and would walk right up to people, between their feet when they were sitting and such. They didn't give a coo about the large amount of people there. I love them, they were the highlight of my trip.
NO ONE HATES PIGEONS!! THEY'RE SOFT AND ROUND AND EAT BREAD AND THAT'S BEAUTIFUL Also our neighbors had fancy pigeons and I loved them because they pooped on annoying people

I once rescued a baby pigeon in my garden. I was so confused. I had no idea what it was. But because I saw a wood pigeon near it I googled "baby pigeon" and saw that that was definitely what I had rescued. I took it to a pigeon sanctuary where it was treated properly (it was severely wounded). I saw all the updates as it grew up and was then released into the wild.
Almost two years ago I found a little baby pigeon thrown near a trashcan on a little wooden chair, since people were cleaning out their balconies, and since really little people take care of pigeons on the balconies they had no choice but to throw it away.At that time I had 2 grey rescue pigeons that were saved from our balcony that had to get cleaned cause it was infested with feral pigeons. And since i had those pigeons my father decided to tell me about the brown baby pigeon to go and take her if i want to ((i would have still taken it even if i didnt have them))and till this day she is still with me,but the two grey ones are set free((if you ask why i havent released her its because she now lives almost two years with me and doesnt have the instinct to survive on her own)) she is also very smart to be honest
If you live in a city, go out and find a flock of pigeons, and just watch them. They do a lot more than you might expect. Just don't feed them; It attracts actual rats too.
When I moved into my current home, I started dumping my spent brewing grains across the lawn for mulch. The neighborhood pigeons immediately spotted them and started munching. It took them several months to figure out that all the nutrition had already been removed (burp). Good eyesight, but I question their IQ.
I once saw a rock dove in Portland sitting beside some leftover Chinese food. At first I thought it was dead, but then it blinked; it was stuffed and couldn't move.
Pigeon fun fact, one of my favorites: the most expensive bird in the world is a racing pigeon, the highest priced racing pigeon was recorded to sell for 1.9 million dollars. They look IDENTICAL to rock doves, they just fly really fast basically. They’re entered into races over six hundred miles long, and only about ten percent of the birds are ever seen again. Also, go look up colorful pigeons and doves, they’re amazing!! Two of my favorites are pink-necked green pigeons and crested pigeons, but even the rock doves you see in the city can be just as stunning with their colorful necks and lovely mottled feathers.
They don’t just look identical, they are Rock doves. Sadly, racers are cruel and cull racing pigeons that don’t fly fast enough. It’s a cruel “sport.” Fun fact, white doves are just rock doves with white feathers. And yet, people don’t hate on them and are quite shocked to realise they’re the same species
Just goes to show you that you can't judge a book by it's cover. One time at my job a coworker found a carrier pidgeon that somehow flew into the maintence closet in the back of the shoppe through a hole in the roof. When my coworker found the band around it's ankle he sae a phone number engraved on it. So he called the number and the owner of the carrier pidgeon said he lives in a town over 50 miles away! I wasn't employeed there during that time, but when he told me this story I was impressed. Also, pidgeons will remember you if they see you often. When I take the train home at Night after work there is a pidgeon I named Mama Rock Dove (who you can see in a video on my channel). She had made a nest in the stairwell in the corner of one of the steps. I was worried that some drunks or homeless people would hurt her, or that some commuters would step on her or kick her if they didn't see her. So when I would wait for my train I'd sit next to her, pick her up, and cuddle with her. She didn't like it, but my whole point was to encourage her to find a safer place to nest and lay her eggs. Unfortunately her nest had been destroyed, her eggs smashed, and she flew away. However she is still there, because Mama Rock Dove recognises me! She usually perches on a platform underneath the stairwell at Night. I reach over the railing on the track and call out "Hej Mama Rock Dove!" and she pops her head out from her puffed up body, bobs her head up and down, and watches me! So yeah, Rock Doves/Pidgeons really aren't as dumb as most people believe them to be.
Van Nocturne research actually shows the English pigeons know hundreds of English words correct spelling. Probably by looking at the word around the town or something... I can't learn English like that.
Van Nocturne I think so too, and maybe shop names. But as a foreign learner we used to memorise the vocabularies by repeating "apple, a, p, p, l, e, apple" everyday and yet spell a lot of words wrong. While these birds can learn the spelling by simply looking at them.
I love pidgeons they are smart. Come in A variety of beautiful colors love their cooing . They bring joy to the city wildlife they are fentle pretty birds.

Pigeons are actually my favorite animal. They play, they have loving and committed families. They express gratitude! They are just desperate and loving creatures...
Silver Gulls? I have never heard seagulls called that before...
The Silver Gull is the species in the Genus Chroicocephalus that we call seagulls here in Australia. Seagull seems to be a catch all term used for many different species of gulls.

As someone who loves pigeons and rats, hearing “feathered rat” used as a pejorative slur is particularly exasperating and depressing.
Bruh I feel that I used to have two rats then I got my pigeons
@@moladiver6817 not really they
are very clean if u watch them for even a short amount of time u will see they constantly groom . they lose limbs cause of the traps we put down or other predators and you can catch more diseases of other humans s.t.d Covid even common colds that are easily transmitted through something as simple as touch unlike pigeon diseases which I can only think of two harmful ones and even then it’s transmitted by poo

Humans: builds cities
Pigeons: its free real estate
Why does this make me laugh sooo much
We also built pigeons...
Pigeons and doves are the only birds that could live on the space station. Most birds drink by scooping up water in their beaks and letting it flow down their throats by gravity, something that would not work in space. Pigeons and doves drink by sucking up water and actively swallowing it like we do.
Haha, I knew that pigeons drink differently from other birds, but I never thought about it that way!
Francois Lacombe isn't there gravity in space?
Yes, but the bird and the water in its beak are accelerated by gravity at the same rate, so as long as gravity is the only force acting on them, as would be the case on the space station, they will not move relative to each other and the water will not go down the bird's throat.
Another weird pigeon fact: some pigeons lactate and "breast"feed their young.

Why add so much empty lines
Same can be said of black men who served.
(obviously oversimplified but I don't want to write a thesis lol. )
We used to appreciate them a lot. That's why they are still used as symbols of love and peace. "White doves" are actually a white breed of pigeon not a different species of dove...
(PS don't release white doves on weddings, most of them will die, they are tame and have no clue what to do after release and have 0 survival skills. Might as well sacrificially kill them on the altar, it's quicker, less cruel...)
Pigeons are amazing, intelligent, emotional, make great pets. My carrier pigeon thinks I'm her mate lol. (She was a rescued feral squab, damaged legs and malformed foot. Gave her a forever home and boy I so do not regret it. I love her to bits.) ruclips.net/video/GgVJipl68ic/видео.html

Pigeons can still find the way home by remembering how they got there (remembering their movements)

He gone now?
birds that live in the city seem to be used to humans, a bird (idk its name) with sharp lookin long wings with blue outlines flew into my house, it kept clinging on to the curtains, when i reached in to grab it, it simply stared at me and just let me grab it as if it knew i was gonna help it get out, even tho i grabbed it awkwardly on my first try which it didnt like so it chirped and flapped its wings so i would release it and get a better and more comfortable grip on the bird to release it outside
Get a parrot. You'll be interacting with him, and you'll learn how to recognize a lot of his behavior so you'll understand how he's feeling. You might even get him to talk to you.
look at their feet. doesn't they look a little like a tyranosaur? it's because... dinosaurs becomes birds. ;)
even better than a parrot, get a pigeon! they're a domesticated species already, better suited to confinement than (still wild) parrots, easily trained, and don't have behaviourally-detrimental hormonal cycles!
I live in apartments. I have watched 15 (or 17, I'm losing count) pigeons grow up and take off. They really do squeeze into the darkest and quietest places.
I love how in the city they be walking with us, almost as if they forgot they got wings
Lol..some will go up to you for food..
yeah it actually takes a lot of energy to fly so they just walk lol
Pigeons actually have flat feet unlike most other birds. They actually prefer foraging on the ground because that’s what is most comfortable for them! That’s also why they prefer cities, their flat feet are meant for nesting on cliffs and sky scrapers are a great way to mimic that! It also takes a lot of energy for them to fly.

Eh, if you don't dump a huge package of seeds right there, and just feed them little by little, they wont leave *anything* for the rats, I promise.
True, but as general rule, it's a bad idea.
In SF we have pigeons, conures, and hawks -- hunting the pigeons and conures. I favor the hawks myself.
EDIT: Forgot the seagulls.
When I moved into my current home, I started dumping my spent brewing grains across the lawn for mulch. The neighborhood pigeons immediately spotted them and started munching. It took them several months to figure out that all the nutrition had already been removed (burp). Good eyesight, but I question their IQ.
Pigeons can't much, because they have no teeth.
Im a big defender of these birds. They are super SMART!
How does it feel to be a cancer to society then?
04 Yeah, no maybe you are.
@@Qmarexx only you can tell that.
They're also brave, because i once stood close up to one and it just ignored me and standed there like it's nothing
Everyone I know hates pidgeons but they are kind and intelligent
I once saw a rock dove in Portland sitting beside some leftover Chinese food. At first I thought it was dead, but then it blinked; it was stuffed and couldn't move.
Did you pet le birb
@@sciencewizard2861 Nope. Wish I had taken a video, though.
Some pigeon fun fact: pigeon can live 1 to 2 year or maybe like 16 year
(I look this on google
They don’t just look identical, they are Rock doves. Sadly, racers are cruel and cull racing pigeons that don’t fly fast enough. It’s a cruel “sport.” Fun fact, white doves are just rock doves with white feathers. And yet, people don’t hate on them and are quite shocked to realise they’re the same species
Was that supposed to be an impression of David Attenborough?
sounds like Kurzgesagt
blitzwaffe Even a good David Attenborough impersonator is too expensive for PBS.
think that was the point
Difeas think that was the point
I think so. But it was painfully unfunny, like most attempts at humor in these videos
pidgey has fainted
It lost bc my Rattata is in the top percent
Nina Z
My guess would be that they recognise the shapes of the letters in the town name.
Van Nocturne I think so too, and maybe shop names. But as a foreign learner we used to memorise the vocabularies by repeating "apple, a, p, p, l, e, apple" everyday and yet spell a lot of words wrong. While these birds can learn the spelling by simply looking at them.
- king- actually we get these alphabets as pictures too. That's why yoy can still undrestnad some incrrectly spelled words.
Yeah and pigions are one of the few animals that can reconize there own reflection and not think its just another bird.
Me: reads title
Also me who loves pigeons: what are you implying good sir?!!!?!
kamikaze pigeon bombs?! That'd save money on computer Components!
But it costs the training and the food for the pigeon. You don't build a pigeon bomb because it's cheap. You build because it's awesome yet cruel!
But there's so much more efficient ways to get rid of them! May I refer you to the song in this video?
During WW2 you couldn't fit a computer into a bomb. That's why they used pigeons. They had more potential than primitive captors.
Guys, guys, I've got the BEST IDEA! Okay, here it goes: Pigeon. Powered. Computers!
Ankyri Oh man, imagine a computer where every sound effect is a pigeon coo.
I love how they move their head every time they walk. As a kid I wished I was a pigeon and I acted like one when I saw them.
I love pidgeons they are smart. Come in A variety of beautiful colors love their cooing . They bring joy to the city wildlife they are fentle pretty birds.
I like how smart these pigeons are when you drive up to them.
Pigeon babies look like little dodos haha.
well, the dodo was a species of pigeon.
They are related. Not closely, but yeah.
How can anyone hate pigeons, they are so friendly and intelligent... Once I helped one with a problem in his leg and he visited me all days for almost a year

Pigeon has some of the most incredible species among them. They can travel the world to meet with there owner. DAMN that's incredible

I bred and trained pigeons for years as a hobby. I’ve never understood why they get so much flak.
Flak is a very inefficient weapon for dealing with pigeons. ROF is too slow and the weapon too bulky.
@@manictiger But pigeons would pick up the small foil fragments, try to eat them, spit them out, then try again about ten times before giving up.
@@buddyclem7328 pigeons that are starving try some very dumb things like other birds and animals but will never be as dumb as some humans
Whoah! I didn't know pigeons are so capable. I love them. Several species come to feed on my deck but I never find any of their droopings, something I do appreciate very much. Can't wait to see the Planet 2 segment on pigeons.
My dad races pigeons competitively and has a ton of them around our house. They can get released down in france and make it to their home in the netherlands all on their own. To train them, they fly in flocks in a circle around our home continuously. Its been his passion for decades and hes one of the top players in the region as well. Theyre really beautiful creatures, and very intelligent, ive grown up to really appreciate pigeons and have a dozen of my own as well
