    You're the only channel on youtube as far as videos over 30 min that I watch in their entirety! I really appreciate all of the testing that you do! I remember in a previous video you spoke about the locations you live and what bands are used in your state. I live in California and if I remember correctly only Ka bands are used here, does the Uniden R3 have an option to mute all K and X bands? are all BSM filtering on the K bands or do some BSMs use Ka bands? I'm looking for a super quiet experience and really looking to pull the trigger on the R3 - Thanks!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад +10

      Wow thank you! I feel honored that you watch the whole thing! I know they're long and often wonder how many people watch everything, and so I'm very glad to hear that you do. :)
      In CA yeah it's almost all Ka (CHP is 34.7) and K is very rare. Many people just shut it off altogether.
      The R3 doesn't have the option to mute all X/K bands, but if you wind up turning it off, it won't matter. (If you do that, the R1 may be a better choice unless you want the RLC alerts.. and I understand those tickets can be pretty pricey in CA.)
      As far as BSM's, they false on K band, not on K.

    I have Escort but it is only good until it works.. if Escort start making errors, Escort charges $50 to fix it but that last about couple years. I fixed three times but if fails again. All Escort and Bell product won't last long. You can fix it with Escort service but it will do it again and again.... I give up finally and go for Uniden.

    I have a fresh V1 and an R1. I bought the R1 for my Canadian trips. I have owned the V1 for over 20 years and updated as needed. Laser reception on the Valentine V1 is second to none. My R1 does have better KA band performance than the V1, but is totally blind on laser.

    Guess I have until June to decide if I am going to sell my V1 for an R3, touch decision still. I like my arrows, but I hate having to use my phone for GPS and savvy for low-speed lockouts. I like that entire built-in package in the R3, plus that range is crazy. I have until June though and I'll keep researching as more videos come out to ultimately decide if I want to keep my V1 or get the R3.

    • @sswany_
      @sswany_ 7 лет назад

      Justin R what did you decide to do?

    • @LSUFaithful7
      @LSUFaithful7 7 лет назад

      I bought an R3. My V1 was so outdated I couldn't send it in to be updated, I had to replace the unit entirely. I loved the V1 but I hate all the false alerts and while the newest version would fix that I wasn't really a fan of having to have my phone plugged into the V1. Nor did I like having to purchase additional equipment to do what the R3 can do out of the box (that being low-speed mute via GPS and GPS lockouts).
      I am also adjusting to not having arrows and the R3's incredible range. With the V1 I felt like it needed arrows because of the range disparity. You were closing in on the signal so fast you need confirmation of its exact location. With the R3 it can detect threats from what feels like a mile or two down the road giving me plenty of time to determine if the threat is in front or behind. It's different, but I am thoroughly enjoying my R3.

    • @sswany_
      @sswany_ 7 лет назад +1

      Justin R thanks for the response. I bought my V1 7ish months ago. I did buy the Bluetooth module so it has been pretty quiet. I haven't gotten any saves from it yet. I'm not dissatisfied with it but if there's something better on the market id consider selling it and getting the R3 if the range is that much better and just as quiet.

    You said you were going to talk about the Uniden DFR6, but instead started talking about the R1 instead. The prices are only good for a few weeks. So what are you telling me?! Wait to get the R1 when the price lowers? I can get a refurb R1 for $200. Is that a good idea?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  5 лет назад

      I must have forgotten. Essentially the DFR6 is a DFR7 without GPS, similar to the R1 being an R3 without GPS. Both the DFR6 and DFR7 are now being discontinued, but you can still find deals on them if you shop around. Cheers!

    I was all set to buy either the Escort iX or the Max 360 until I came across your RUclips channel. I never would have considered a Uniden until I saw your videos. I have not owned a radar detector in many years but I always bough BEL before. I'm pretty well sold on the Uniden R3 but I'm seeing comments about the BSM issue. I drive a late model Chevy Tahoe LTZ, completely loaded so it has all that stuff and I'm wondering if the Uniden R3 will have issues in my vehicle. Would you happen to know? Thanks.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  6 лет назад

      It may be an issue. Some Chevy's (some, not all) use BSM that causes problems with every radar detector on the market. A radar detector with only a front antenna may actually be better than one with a rear antenna which is aiming towards the blind spot radar systems in the back of the vehicle. Give it a whirl and see if it works. bit.ly/2oNDrPl

    Hi vortex thanks a lot for this video.
    I get two RD.
    Uniden DFR7 and Genevo One S Black edition.
    I live in Europe and where I live K band low powered radar are in use (stationary radars or mobiles radars on police car as Gatso Millia) usually at 24.125 Mhz.
    I wandered if I should get the Uniden R1 (less expensive of the R3 and for this reason my wife will be less polemical ;) ) .

    What you'll do if you where in my situation?

    Hi, I have a question. I own a Valentine V1 that I purchased probably 10 years ago. Of course I love the arrows. I am currently Escort Red Line user and am very happy with it. I want to buy the new Uniden R3, but that's not part of the question.
    For $289 plus shipping I get the following if I decide to update it.
    Question, is it worth it for $289?? It looks like they just give me a brand new V1.
    I checked on Valentines website to get an upgrade for my unit and found out the following:
    PRICE: $289 plus shipping
    Why is this UPGRADE so costly: The parts compatible with the circuitry of these older V1s are no longer available to us. Today's V1 is a complete internal redesign. So our Instant Upgrade is, in fact, a brand new V1 with all the accessories you would get with a purchase today, provided to you at a $110 discount. We appreciate your loyalty.
    Here's what you'll get:
    Junk-K Fighter blocks false alarms caused by K-band lane-change warning systems in some newer cars.
    Traffic Monitor Filter, created to eliminate false alarms caused by SpeedInfo, a traffic-flow monitoring system that sends frequent K-band radar bursts into the traffic stream.
    Improved Euro Mode, now with K-band coverage expanded to include the lower frequency photo radar devices in use in other countries. (V1 is already optimized for North American radar as it comes from the factory; Euro Mode is not for driving here). For specific frequency details, click here. This software algorithm is installed at the factory, but not activated. For activation instructions, click here.
    Crystal-controlled Frequency Tuning to permanently safeguard coverage at radar-band edges.
    Extended Serial Protocol (ESP) enables two-way communication with SAVVY and V1connection.
    Our best Ka-band performance, including full "superwide" coverage (33.4 - 36.0 GHz), today's long range, much better resistance to Ka false alarms, and POP Protection from MPH BEE III™ and Enforcer™ radars.
    Our best X-band performance.
    Our best K-band performance. Note: POP Protection on K band is incompatible with Traffic Monitor Filter. K-band POP radar is rarely used but if you are concerned about it, you may choose to deactivate TMF. For deactivation instructions, click here.
    Adds radar coverage on Ku-band (used in Europe).
    Adds our latest laser warning front and rear.
    Adds False-Alarm Retraction to notify you when V1 finds that an alert in progress is false; also terminates the alert.
    New windshield mount with new suction cups.
    New visor mount.
    New Lighter Power Adapter.
    New Direct-wire Power Adapter.
    New coiled cord.
    New straight cord.
    New wiring-harness connector.
    Dual-Lock® fastener.
    New Owner's manual.
    Spare fuse.
    Spare suction cups.
    One-year limited warranty, same as new units, starting at Upgrade date.

    Great video. Bought my DFR7 in February and for me here in California, IT IS A BEAST! I used to think it wasn't working right because it would alert to 34.7 but I wouldn't see a CHP for miles/minutes. Then I figured out it's just how good it performs. The R3 looks interesting but I think my DFR7 in Cali is just fine! If Uniden ever adds arrows I will then upgrade!

    I almost pre-ordered this one, will probably wait and stay on the sideline and check out what the industry does. I have a RPSE and I think that will give me more than enough time to slow down unless a crappy day I/O shot. I am thinking Escort will come out with something good with their m7 platform and Radenso might have something brewing in their kitchen beside their MRCD RPSE. I think Radenso will do something and will change the market again. If Radenso can combine the XP with the range of the RPSE and give it more range I suppose or arrows, that would be a dream detector. I love Radenso customer service.

      @@joefro9473 not with YaV1 and K-band muting. If I'm doing the speed with passenger's and just push the button to toggle K-band on and off.
      With too many filters like others offer you may not get a warning until too late. The V1 allows a lower volume K-band to come through until thresholds are met then goes to higher volume.
      The custom Ka sweeps makes the V1 much more sensitive than with just Ka Guard OFF.

    Hello, I watched most of your videos with interest and you are one of the persons who know much about radar detectors. There is one question that I want to ask. There is new cameras in my country now. The model is ARH -CAM S1. As I can see it is a new laser based camera witch has kill zone for about 600 meters and the scan zone is around 1200 meters. I am about to purchase a Uniden R1 and my question is is it good for detecting this types of cameras? Do you have any information regarding this Laser cameras? And is there another laser detector good enough for this cameras? It is forbidden to have a laser jamers in my country so that is why I am asking for your opinion.
    Thank you very much for every video that you do. Keep up the good work :)

      The Uniden’s laser sensitivity is pretty poor. ALP’s can help you deal with that, but I understand it’s not allowed.

    Me again I just seen several videos of the Redline vs 9500ix and they alarmed at the same time now I remember you made a video on the 9500ix and you said you didn’t really like it much now I know that my 9500ix has saved me many times and it picks up from far away so what do you say about that??
    Now I love your videos and I am going to buy the R3 because I do trust you and it picks up the newer short distance signal better.

    I have had my eyes on a redline for years, and was literally about to pull the trigger on one, until you introduced me to the Uniden R3. I called Uniden earlier today and they are sold out! They have me on a waiting list to buy one, and they told me that the cost will be $429+ shipping and handling and taxes. Escorts marketing is strong, because psychologically I'm having a hard time justifying a brand-name like Uniden over Escort. I've watched your videos for a long time, and I am going to trust you and go ahead and order the Uniden R3 when they have it in stock again.

    Very informative. I like your honest and non-biased reviews. Especially that you value integrity over false advertisement and profits (in another video).
    Please shed some light on why detectors should be unmounted and kept in a cooler place when not in use. The tremendous heat build up in southern states like Texas can surely reduce the life of a detector and damage them; almost like an overheating laptop.
    Thanks for you wonderful reviews and hard work! I want you to become more successful so please do not take offense to the following constructive criticism:
    Please consider having a few bullet points so that you do not continuously repeat the same thing over and over again. Also, sloooooow down! With so much fast talking you can cause the listeners to become anxious and unable to absorb material.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад

      Thank you for the feedback! The fast talking is actually intentional. I'm trying to make shorter videos (this one is 40 minutes long) and it's tough to balance that with talking more slowly. The bulletpoints thing I've actually started doing behind the scenes to make sure I cover everything and minimize repeating myself. It's a balance. :)
      As for the heat, I haven't heard of any issues due to that. Sure they get hot, but detectors are designed to be installed and used in vehicles, just like your stereo, a GPS receiver on your windshield, etc.

    Hi. I have watched all of your videos and based on your reviews, I ended up getting the LRF 950 radar. I am facing a big dilemma now if I should exchange it for R3 or Max360. I am driving more in the city and not that much on the highway. But when driving on the highway, I am getting a false alerts
    and I am not sure if they come from the highway tolls.Do you think it is worth it to exchange my radar for either one of these? Thanks in advance 👍👌

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад +2

      +Denislav Todorov The 950 is great (you can upload DFR7 firmware onto it to get more features). Do you know if the falses are from blind spot cars nearby or do you get them going off every mile or so? If it's every mile, those are traffic sensors and you need to enable TSF. I don't think the R3 or Max360 will be a big step up in terms of false filtering.

      Well in CA you could disable K band altogether if you like so you don't have to deal with all the falsing and filtering needed for K band. You can do the V1 if you want arrows or the R1 if you want all out range. If you want RLC alerts, you can always run Waze for free.

  • @kylerich9904
    @kylerich9904 7 лет назад

    Okay, so the Uniden is basically the new don of detectors. This answered my question about comparison to the Max 2. I'm pretty much sold on it. Now just waiting for them to become available again.
    My next concern, though, is all this mention of BSM issues with GM and Acura - and that particularly Acura is the most difficult for combating false alerts. Guess what kind of car I drive? Yup, a 2016 Acura ILX. So does this mean that my own car will trigger false alerts? Sounds like it could be a nightmare with ANY detector if that's the case.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад

      haha yikes, yeah, it may be. Does your ILX have blind spot monitoring? If so, I think can think of just a few solutions:
      1) Get a Stinger VIP. It has an in-car radar filter to filter out your own BSM's. It's pricey though.
      2) Disable K band altogether. If you live in California, you could do that.
      3) Sell your car and buy another, haha :p

    • @kylerich9904
      @kylerich9904 7 лет назад

      Ahhhh man! I was beginning to worry that might be the case.
      Perhaps I should do some research on what bands are used in my area? Of course, I'd still want full functionality on the highway, but that may just be something I'll have to compromise on.
      Maybe I should just try it out and see if it will perhaps learn that it's my own car (wishful thinking) haha. A lockout wouldn't work because it uses location for that, right?
      Do you know if there's any database available online cataloging bands used in certain states / counties? Bands that are widely known as most common? - I always hear you referencing three frequencies in the Ka(?) band...or are certain bands identifiable based on model / year of the police car?
      Thanks so much for all your help!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад

      Yeah there actually is. It's the RDFGS. Unfortunately it's down at the moment, but here's a backup you can check out: www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=59672
      You're right that a lockout won't work. That feature is designed to filter out a signal in one specific location, not every area.

    Thanks Dude for the video. I am a big fun of V1 as a user in the USA with Veil Coat and been great until I tried to used in Saudi Arabia. It works great with Poliscan fixed and Mobile (Laser). Mobile units can be dedicated with over 1km! The disappointment was when the V1 has zero dedication range with some new mobile cameras others were K band. I think they are Reflex but in local custom boxes (google image Saher or ساهر ). I tired many different things like K filter off, EU mode, Ku on, X Eu on, etc. We might use a custom freq range but `I could not find info about it I sold m V1 and Now I am back to the US and looking to buy a new Radar Dedicator. Wondering How is the Uniden R1 or R3 performance in Laser in compare to V1??

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад

      Laser sensitivity doesn't really matter much. The V1 is better, but it falses more too. Really you need laser jammers out here. The beginning of this video explains things: ruclips.net/video/7bGEoBwI4oU/видео.html

    • @Supra993Rz
      @Supra993Rz 7 лет назад

      In Saudi Arabia, Speed cameras are either Laser or Radar. V1 can detect the Laser cameras from very decent distance maybe like +1km so you don't need a jammer but the Issue is with the K-Band radar cameras. So I am thinking to get the Uniden because of its better range but concerned about it Laser detection probably just with Poliscan.

      I've only seen one X band test with the R3 and the DFR7 wasn't included so I couldn't tell you. I can tell you that the R3's X band performance is pretty bad and it turned out Uniden reduced the sensitivity quite a bit to cut down on falses. After that test, they're now giving us the option to run at full sensitivity or reduced sensitivity as I explained in my video about the test results.

      I don't really get that logic. You could do the same thing with the R3 and its frequency display, but it can also filter out the BSM falses much better so you won't have to do that manual mute all the time like with the Redline.

      I don't think it works that way. There are situations where they have one person clocking vehicles and other officers who are chase cars. A good example is an officer running speed enforcement from the sky and radio'ing down to chase cars on the ground.
      Even with ground-based speed enforcement, I'm not aware of laws where an officer has to show you the locked in speed on the back of their radar or lidar gun. It's possible in some areas, but certainly not everywhere.

      THE MIKEY MIKE CHANNEL When was the last time you been in court for speeding? I don't know what state you are in but here in GA cops will not let you look at anything. One time they tried to charge me with a school bus offence and didn't let me have the video from the police car till the day of my court, which was basically 1 hour before hearing and I couldn't see it till in the court itself. Same thing with the speeding microfilm's footage. This will just anger the judge and he can add more fine on top of current one. Had this sh!t happened to my g.f. before.
      Invest in a good dash cam with GPS in it, even if it may not be full proof in the court, but it will definitely help in front of judge to fight for yourself.

    Is this any good for Western Australia? The majority of our radars are lasers and stationary polyscans.

      You'll need a laser jammer like the AntiLaser Priority against the Poliscan there. Some good info from fellow members down under on RDF. www.rdforum.org/forum.php

    • @JerryPena

      So since we know the Redline and the ProSE have low pass filter to help its sensitivity to give you longer range detection, do you know if the new R1/R3 have an LPF? What's giving these detectors an edge on sensitivity?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 лет назад

      +Jerry Pena low noise amplifier. Oddly the Unidens don't have an LNA and yet they're still beating other detectors which is kind of wild.

    Uniden is a eye sore compared to redline. But the performance is worth it. The LCD screen is nicer than the l.e.d redline. Just not the case materials. I'm going to get one to test verses the redline just to see the range and sensitivity differences soon.

      I personally think the DFR/LRD look really cheap and stupid. Everyone has their preferences. None of them look that great IMO.

      You don't really see them once they are installed high mount - I guess if you were mounting off the mirror or on the dash it might be a concern.

    • @bwxmoto
      @bwxmoto 7 лет назад

      Looking good is not just subjective or opinion anyways. There is science and proven theory behind what looks "good" and what looks "like crap". A pile of crap with random shards of metal in it is ugly. A super model's face is not ugly. There is a reason. The same reasons and theories apply to any physical object.
      The DFR7 in all black, in person, is a very nice looking device. It is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The R3 is a shambled up pile of angles in a bulbous and ungainly shape. It is ugly, especially compared to the sleek DFR7.
      You can say "it's just your opinion" all day long and it doesn't make it not true. A trained artist's opinion may count more than an ape's opinion as well.

      It's funny.. sometimes when I say good things about a detector, people think I'm biased or paid. Sometimes when I say bad things about a detector, people think I'm biased or paid by the competition. Oh well, I'll keep focusing on being objective and unbiased and sharing with you what I really think. Do with it what you will. Cheers. :)

    Quick question, on my honda civic with the radar cruise control, will that make the Uniden R3 go bonkers or will it be able to filter it out all of the time? I dont want to buy it and have a paperweight... Thanks in advance...

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  6 лет назад

      It might, but probably not. Hondas are pretty notorious for causing problems for other nearby radar detectors so it's not just an R3-specific issue. My guess is you'll be okay since it's usually blind spot radar and not radar cruise control that causes issues. My recommendation is to try it out from here: bit.ly/2oNDrPl
      Enable the K Filter for sure. If that doesn't work, enable TSF. You can also enable K Narrow which may help a little, but those other two filters will be your best bet.

    BTW: Redline is not the best Escort model, it's the iX and has better sensitivity than the Redline, but you don't say that. Are you a paid endorser for Uniden? Make sure you state all the facts and not fool people saying Uniden is better than Escort.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  5 лет назад +1

      No I am not.
      The Redline is definitely a better performer than the iX. You can verify that by looking at any test or conducting a test yourself.
