She NAILED this role. She kept your eyes glued to the screen. The marketing wasn't enough. Roomey was their secret ingredient. They just needed time for more ppl to discover the movie and they would've been salivating for the 2nd. Kind of like how the movie "less than zero" had lower ratings, but later became a cult classic. They made a HUGE mistake replacing her.

I never heard of this movie until 2020. And yes...Rooney nailed the role. Especially when she punished the bastard who took advantage of Salander's medical history. Of course Salander's 'advisor' actor also nailed that minor role. He knows how to play the charactor of thoroughly disgusting people.

Rooney can convey so much emotion and speak volumes without ever actually saying a single word, and I love that. Her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander was outstanding! The roller coaster ride of Lisbeth's experience in this book is heart-wrenching, but on screen Rooney made Lisbeth seem real. Her dedication to the character brought the film to a whole other level. It instantly became one of my all-time favorite films, and about 90% of the reason why was due to Rooney's performance.

Because they didn't finish the trilogy. This was the first one. The films about Lisbeth Salander they have made later on are not a part of the trilogy. They are not written by Stieg Larsson, whom passed after creating the Millennium trilogy. I read the books and saw the Swedish films first, with Noomi Rapace. She will probably always be THE Salander for me (Noomi), but I did enjoy this adaption and loved Rooneys take on her. I have been a huge fan of Ronney Mara ever since!

This film was outstanding, and even after watching the other version and having loved it, Rooney Mara brought Lisbeth to life here, in a way that I found to be immediately fascinating. One of my favorite scenes, are THE RAPE SCENE and THE REVENGE SCENE because they made such good display of her inner strength and what a damned good thinker this girl is. Revenge is not my thing...but RECIPROCITY is. I believe in the value of reciprocity. In simpler terms, I give praise where praise is due and I give shit where shit is due. Watching her give back the shit practiced on her, complete with her own list of "future terms and conditionalities" , was brilliant and pretty damned hardcore. It is at this precise point that the viewer develops a whole new level of respect for this character. I've watched this film about 3 or 4 times now.

Sometimes I can't watch a popular movie out the gate because of all the noise around it. I just want to watch - me and the art. This movie blew me away. Lisbeth (and Rooney) blew me away. And all the subtext looks at her, thinking they knew who she was, automatically disrespecting her. Always trying to undermine her. Thinking she was nothing. When really, she was everything.

I think Mikael had a connection with Lisbeth as a partner in crime. Once the mystery had concluded he came back to earth and resumed the relationship he had put on pause in Stockholm. Meanwhile, Lisbeth really trusted Mikael and was more emotionally invested. Mikael didn't know about Lisbeth's past abuse so he never knew how significant it was to gain her trust. That's how I understood it anyway...I was also heartbroken at the end :')

Salander falls in love with Mikael and isn’t sure how to handle it but then makes up her mind to tell him, on her way to find him she sees him with Erika walking arm in arm and she feels a fool and gets angry with herself. Book 2, The girl who played with fire, explains what she does next.

Regarding that t-shirt Lisbeth wears that says "F*ck you, you f*cking f*ck"... I didn't see this film when it first came out, so I find it really funny and remarkably coincidental that the *one* random t-shirt I took a picture of while in NYC with my sister (in 2012) was a black t-shirt hanging outside a little street shop, and that shirt had those exact words. My sister was like, "Don't take a picture of that!" but it just made me laugh in a dark way and I felt this weird need to photograph it. Cut to years later when I finally saw this film and noticed Lisbeth's t-shirt, and I was like, "Oh my god... it's the shirt!" Which made me love it (and Lisbeth) even more.
I love hearing about all these behind-the-scenes stories about how they all brought the character to life. Very cool.

It’s very rare, but this remake surpassed the original. Only the first one with this actress and crew.

For anyone who dont know books even swedish trilogy films must be this remake a liitle bit confusing, without circumstancies of hole story behind. Anyway, it is a very good flm work, it's just a shame they dont made it to the end.
