You might be interested in role playing games like D&D. I understand you don't actualy go in an adventure yourself, but your mind taking you there is perhaps the next best thing.
A young child playing with their pet in a field near a port dream of the day when they will have a ship of their own and sail for adventure. Years later they achieve their dream and as their ship leaves shore they reminisce about their days of play.
He fulfils his childhood dream of being the greatest pirate, so on his way to Nassau, the city of the free,
_there's a british armada waiting there to ensnare any pirates so they capture him and he gets hung by the neck until dead_
