No joke, running in this series basically triggers the plot armor in most occasions...

He’s talking away his ability to “Run you clever boy”

This is why moffat is so so good at single episodes. His series long arcs always get so convoluted and overly-complex, but his single episodes story telling is so so tight that it makes for FANTASTIC TV.

The fact they were doesn't mean they will be. RTD was as well considered a savior. But right now it is a disaster. So I wouldn't count on anything good. I'd rather brace myself for an impact...
This is true, but Moffat’s stories were always more true to the Dr. Slightly darker but still with some humour.
@@elliebouali AGREED. ALL Moffat stories would be so much better than RTD!

I do credit him with bringing modern who back. The great thing is this is its flexibility, but that means some doctors and show runners click with different people.
That's what everyone said about RTD coming back remember... (And look how _that_ turned out?)
Even tho we know the doctors gonna live, moffat will still find a way to make this premise feel huge and consequential- what a great writer, glad to see him back
I would assume the screwdriver, since he doesn't just disable the mine.
Maybe its deadlock sealed
I think running.
Like, especially during the RTD era, there was a lot of running.
Very unlikely since the Doctor went without his sonic screwdriver for the most of the 80s, so we already had about a decade worth of Doctor with no sonic. That's not even including the fact that the Doctor didn't even use the sonic screwdriver for roughly the first 6-7 years of the show's existence.
@@sheersternfeld1914Eh, not as much as we say in Moffat's era. Matt Smith had what felt like a dozen speeches about running.

Only Moffat can write an episode that is stationary but suspenseful. This episode was way better than the last two. Space babies was awful… Devils cord was okay till that twist at the end 😒…
Moffat we all miss you! Hope to see more stories from you❤
Not exactly a hot take, but Moffat was at his best when he could pour his creativity into one story per series (look at the fan/critical acclaim Empty Child, Blink, Shadows in the Library, etc still have!)
Him being showrunner was amazing in theory, but in practice it felt like he had to spread himself too thinly across a whole series and had to significantly dilute his writing talents.
Looking forward to this, though!
(And for the record, Coupling is still one of my all time favourite sitcoms!)
Well, Series 5 and 6 were good. 5 was a banger, and whilst 6 was a little over the top complex it was still great. It was everything after where things tumbled downhill, and I believe he had just burned out his creative juices having to do so much year after year
Hopefully after the 7 year break hes had and just doing single episodes will see him re-ignite what made his original work so good
I also feel like it showed his writing flaws more easily.
Such as it's hard for him to write female characters who aren't femme fatal or a masculine-coded character.
His strength is concentrated stories.
He was even better when he took something common like a statue and made something deadly.
Yay, Lots of love for Coupling! :D
I get you. When he’s got boundaries he’s fab, left to his own devices his stuff could get a bit convoluted.
SAYING THAT
He’s still the best Doctor Who writer IMO, seasons 5 and 10 being his best, and he also wrote the 50th anniversary so snaps for that!
Love to see Mof bringing back angsty who!!! Hope to see some more of him in the future

Best episode of Doctor Who since he left. SO good. The difference in the show when Moffat writes is so obvious.
Finally we meet the Doctor.
I hope the genius of this episodes can hangover into the rest of the season. Ironically, it’s restored my ‘faith’ that the show isn’t totally dead yet.
I swear the pattern of doctor who rn is every 3 episodes theres a good one
It’s the fact he can’t run….. or he’s taken away the Sonic.
_"When I say run......... RUN!!!"_
This time, however, he can't.
He lost his sonic many times. Even in last episode. Also it was in Eleventh Hour as a part of "I have nothing with me now I gonna save the world".
If go deep there was no sonic since Fifth in the rest of the classic.
I like idea from other comments: he will lose his ability to run. But I wanna say more: ability to move. Do anything even.
BUT if the idea is even furhter behind and he won't be able to TALK a lot - my god we have 100% banger.
Can't blink, can't breathe, can't look, can't think and now you can't walk.
What are my chances of survival again?
And after this episode Steven Moffat is going to bring "Joy to the World " this Christmas
I would guess it is his sonic screwdriver, so he can not deactivate those land mines.
Either it’s the tardis or the sonic
My first thought was pacing. The Doctor paces a lot when thinking. Enthusiastic pacing. Especially this Doctor. But, really, what Moffat's talking about is running.
BOOM!
The GOAT is back!
He can’t run, he can’t be a clever boy, and he can’t remember!
I'm guessing it's the ability to run away!
So glad the Moff is back. Best episode since Capaldi left.
Davies was the one who brought back doctor who in 2005 and Moffat gave doctor who the popularity. Now Davies is going to save doctor who while Moffat is going to bring the popularity back again
It's not his ability to run, he's free to leave... but he's not regenerating out of THAT.
Glad to see a competent/one of the best writers back. My guess is his sonic is missing/he doesn’t have, otherwise I doubt a mine would be an issue with it, so most likely his sonic.
Ok, I’m back having watched the episode, I see how even with his sonic, the Doctor was screwed. Those mines are were really freaking me out, epically the the gap between the light.
He can't run from the danger... The doctor always runs.
Nah, it's just deadlock sealed. :P
I’ve always had a belief that Moffat was the best at writing self contained episodes and two parters - whereas russel in my opinion is better at writing an overarching narrative across season that makes you cry at the end - the David tennant era was emotional af

Hell yeah. Hope he'll write even more episodes.
I’ve watched Who since the Pertwee days and the Moffat/Matt Smith era is the absolute best Who has ever been
I've been watching since the Pertwee days as well, in fact he is still my favorite Doctor. But I think everything Moffat did to the franchise after Smith's first two seasons was horrid. He even said he was more interested in "Sherlock." When fans complained about the declining quality he called it a "kid's show" (as opposed to a family show--ALL ages). BBC nearly cancelled the show under his "show-running" (show ruining) and he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near it ever again.
I can't wait, I'm so happy Moffat is back with an incredible premise!

Maybe but I wouldn't know either. I think the Midnight entity attempted to take away the Doctor's speech already. The weeping angels took away blinking, the clockwork droids took away breathing, the silence took away memory, the Not Things took away thinking, and there's been plenty of times where the Doctor hasn't had a TARDIS and a sonic screwdriver. I think that this time it's really just as straightforward as it seems. Moffat's removed the Doctor's ability to move. I suppose the TARDIS and the sonic screwdriver won't really be of use here.
