I hope the top choices are Renard, Poch, and the Spain coach. The salary may be lower for Renard and the Spanish coach based on their current salaries. Concerned though that we have not heard a definite no from Southgate. Reading the entire quote from Matarazzo and some background on him via ESPN FC, his family really are happy in Europe. It would really be something if it is the Spain coach, and he brings in ideas that he used with the Spanish team that Pete mentioned. He then calls into camp US players that no one is expecting. A necessary shakeup to the US roster.
Chicharito scoring with his ballsack was my intro to soccer (when he was in Man U 20 years ago and I was a Mexico fan).. I’m mainly just a USMNT fan now
Zardes is a wizard at scoring bizarre deflection goals. My favorite was his goal in Nations League where a clearance blasted him in the face for a rocket header. 😂
Mauricio Pochettino will be the next manager for the USMNT. Pochettino was waiting to see if the Newcastle job would open up, as he wanted to return to the Premier League with a good team, but that didn't materialize. Now we're a week away, and all the positions in the power 5 are filled, and teams won't start making changes until the January window. Right now is the best opportunity for the USMNT to get the best available coach, not named Klopp, on the market. The USSF has the money to make Pochettino happy. Now, they just have to sell this. Pochettino is much better than Renard or Matarazzo, and its not even close
They're just so different, with different strengths and weaknesses it's hard to compare them. It just depends on what specific attribute you think is most important
@ninjalectualx . As a Spurs supporter, it's no coincidence that Tottenham had their best run of form and their best results with Pochettino in charge. It's his relentless high-pressure that's his signature. His offense revolves around the #10. We have a capable striker in Balo, and we have a game changing wing in Pulisic. Pochettino will give Rayna his due if he's playing well at the club level, but he won't be afraid to give Diego Luna, who is an incredibly silky 10 with RSL. Fans will be happy that we'll have a coach who will use our roster to their strengths, but in his system, he also runs a high line. Which requires CBs to be tactically responsible
That's positive! I think a good #10 can make a huge difference in international soccer and I want a coach who acknowledges this isn't club ball. I also want a guy who's ruthless and willing to throw out his game plan in a knockout game if things aren't working like Deschamps did against Argentina
I’m not sure if Viera is a good coach but saying he failed at CP is harsh. He got fired after not winning for 12 matches but that stretch was incredibly brutal. After he got fired they managed to finish 1 spot higher in the table.
Agree on top tier. That's pretty clear. Pochettino, Tuchel, Mourinho, De La Fuente, Van Gaal Renard, Matarazzo, Wagner, Benitez Vieira, Nancy, Southgate Cherundolo, Henry ... ... ... Lalas for free.
Morrocco was the first team from Africa to reach the semi finals of a WC and they had an HG coach. Guus Hiddink's South Korea is not great example giving the circumstances by which they beat Italy and Spain .
To foreign coaches: the four teams from England who qualified for the Champions League last year featured three Spaniards and a German. When the money is on the line, the decision makers go with the best available. Their nationality means zilch.
It would be interested to have the chain-smoking Mauricio Sarri as coach. Pioli's tactics suck, and Allegri is more expensive than most bunkering managers are worth. However, you can find lots of quality managers in Spain, Italy and Germany that we can get. I doubt Crocker and JT maintain in-depth manager assessments from a variety of leagues. Starting with recognizable names. I would also take Will Still, Tata and Miguel Herrera over most of your D and E coaches listed.
Sounds like everyone needs to come back with a preplanned tier list 😂 All in all I gotta mostly agree. There are still other good named coaches out there. I don’t think we need a flashy splash but one that shows we ain’t playing but also being smart. The players are no longer running the team.
I'm probably biased because of my name, but wait, why Zidane is an A or tier 1??!! God no, lol. Probably a B in my opinion. He's just fortunate enough to have all-star players in Madrid at his disposal to win 3 straight UCL and bounced out the moment Cristiano Ronaldo left to Juventus. He came back again just because the previous coach was sacked, but not as successful the second time around. That being said, he has not been tested coaching with teams outside of Real Madrid or any team with lower caliber. There is not enough data under Zidane in my opinion.
Poch takes ages to build form for every team he coaches. That’s not something you have coaching on the International stage. I hope he gets a good club, but I don’t really like him for the USMNT
tamper the expectation. these players are just not good enough. mckennie adams relegated, reyna benched for relegation level team, dest was released, carter vickers swansea reject, aaronson bench player for leeds in championship, musah riding the bench for loftus cheek, ricardo poopoo cleaning boots for luuk de jong, turner 3th choice goalie for forest. chris richards on the bench for palace if everyone fit. pulisic who is sharing right wing spot with chukuweze and has no chance against leao in his favorite left wing spot and antonee robinson are the only actual good solid mid table premier league player. that’s it. how many national team coaches actually ever “overachieved”? rarely. so you’re looking to win a lottery here. lower the expectation. nobody will overachieve with the us team
Pochettino will be too expensive. Matarazzo has already turned the job down. Southgate and Henry will be terrible. Cherundolo will be yet another mediocre MLS coach. Herve Renard? I dunno if he really is any good, since he couldn't take the French women past the Brazilians.
These guys talk about great coaches and completely ignore Scaloni who just won a Copa America and is a World Cup winner. I get it, he is not available but omitting any mention and disregard of his credentials put these three in total lack of knowledge about soccer. Pathetic.
@ajibolavincent5496 I think you misunderstood my comment. I said he's not available, but these guys were talking about Pep, who obviously is not available and wouldn't consider a USMNT job, like the God of coaching, and to be fair, he's some kind of wonder, but they were talking about elite coaches and Scaloni never came up. That's my point.
@@jcm21354 I get you, even the Moroccan coach who came 4th at the WC in Qatar was not a popular candidate when he was appointed. England just appointed Lee Carsley as an interim coach.

It's amazing how uninformed Pete is. Patrick Vieira was praised for getting Nice into European football, and he saved Strasbourg from relegation. Pete thinks he has no coaching success. The French press have praised Vieira for his job with Nice & Strasbourg.
I think Vieira is actually a great coach but not the best coach for this job. I value experience as much as talent for this job tbh, I don't want someone learning on this job
The US is not England. You don’t have anywhere near the strength in depth and Southgates experience would only benefit the US. You’re not going to win the wc. Last 16 would be a success.
If Southgate underachieved with England what chance does he have with a much less talented team? Also R16 is not an accomplishment for the USA, it's the expectation. Quarterfinals would be a success.
The US player pool just doesn't have the skills which fit a Southgate system so it's a bad match. The US won't get a top manager but Southgate just isn't a good manager, average at best (and that's being incredibly generous). England has chronically underperformed under him, England have better talent than Spain, France, and the Netherlands but if I had to rank England right now based on performance they would fall behind both Spain and France and possibly be in a head-to-head with the Netherlands, potentially Portugal, and Italy trailing closely behind (England got a very lucky draw in the Euros which enabled them to get to the finals).
Last 16 is the bare minimum.. what are u talking about lol.. we got destroyed in Copa America but that’s out of the norm, cuz we’ve had the same coach for 6 years now.. our bare minimum in world cups is last 16.. so we need someone to take us past that
