I have a copy of Gunsmoke that is super clean inside and out and for some reason I just get a grey screen on startup. Maybe I’ll try reflowing the solder! Thanks John!
You normally get the grey screen with top loading systems. Several reseatings of the cartridge MIGHT resolve it.
@@volvoguy804 I’ve got the OG front loading nes, all my other games work, but I should prob try to clean out the system. Gunsmoke is so good it’s worth a try.
if it still doesn't work after the reflow consider getting a multimeter to check for continuation on the pins, maybe there's a broken trace.
@@Green.Blood. Ahh, I gotcha! I have an NES-101 model. I often purchase games on Ebay and get this issue. Reseating seems to help after a few tries. (Use a left to right motion when reseating)
Oddly enough, blowing in the cartridge seems to get it running too. Of course, I'm sure this is just a placebo effect. 😆
If you get the means, you can also try another console.

I had a copy of commando (NES) that was all buggy, tried fixing it by soldering iron, and cleaning. Didn't work (didn't hurt either fortunately) then I tried same game with everdrive only to find the game is just broken and buggy regardless. Does a not buggy version of commando even exist for NES?
So many of those early capcom games are a little like that.
The early games are getting really old now. Reflowing is going to become a more and more common fix.

That's awesome. I've been collecting NES games since 80's and have a bunch that don't work anymore. I never thought of reflowing the solder. Only ever tried cleaning the connectors. Thank you.
Love your channel. Really wish you'd invest a few bucks in a better audio setup. Your audio is by far the weak point in your channel. Someone with as many subs as you should up the audio game a bit. Said with love! It would cost under $100 to get a significant upgrade in the audio department.

Sadly my copy of castlevania glitches when you go through the gate into the castle. Never could figure out why. All traces are good on the board and all solder is new. Plus all 72 pins are clear and clean.
That is amazing we have a super Star Wars Empire Strikes Back that will not work no matter how much we clean it and open it up you are really a surgeon LOL

Hi John, I have a Kirby's adventure game for NES I've attempted to resolder the pins and to be honest with you doesn't look like much solder is on there at all. My question is if the battery is dead in the game would it not come on at all in the NES console? Thanks & great video by the way!

fun game, hard as hell near the end, back in the day only beat it once, then decided to continue on, lots of bats if you continue on after beating the game.

@@JohnRiggs I'm on a diet as well, it's one of those faddish celebrity ones called The New Less Cake More Ezcercise Protocol. It involves less cake and more exercise which to be honest I was a little taken aback by when I read the details. 😉
