I'm a new concert to your channel. I must say that I'm really enjoying your breadth of musical taste. I'm 67 and of the sites of people of "experience" yours is by far the best. Also and happily you are without the lugubrious tendencies of many of your countrymen. I love in Scotland, but I was born in London. Look forward to seeing more of your posts in the future! 😊

Thanks, Mazzy - gave me some good ideas.
Also thanks for taking the records out of the outer sleeves when presenting them.
This might be considered an unimportant detail (by many YTers it seems...). But for someone like me that have been photographing and working w. lay out (magazines, handbooks) - the visual side of things are important. THX.

Mazzy you are like the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks for another year of great videos and observations. I maybe 65 myself, but it's great to hear about artists I don't know or even heard of. When I first started collecting when I was 14 I would list hundreds of albums I wanted. Now.....
    Thanks again.

Hi @mazzysmusic I made a tongue in cheek comment on click bait on one of your videos, maybe it was my Scottish humour but it seemed to get under your skin, sorry I know there is way too much crappy stuff on the internet, I was not being serious. I _love_ your channel. And wanted to thank you for the Sam records pointer, got the Big Bill Broonzie records and they are WONDERFUL! Keep up the great work.
By the way, I also ordered the LP of Miles Davis' live soundtrack to the Louis Malle movie '_Ascenseur pour l'échafaud_' (the lift to the scaffold / elevator to the gallows) - it's reproduced on the original 10" vinyl and is wonderful.
I wouldn't have found these records but for you generous sharing, so thank you!

Tongue in cheek comments usually work for me, but sometimes they don’t always translate in the written form. English, Irish and Scottish usually work just fine.
Frankly I don’t recall what your comment was, but no worries. Appreciate almost any✌🏼

Breeders, Pogues, Talking Heads, Morphine, etc, etc…. Great records, Mazzy. Happy to see Morphine in the #1 spot. They were truly an amazing band, and of course, one of my absolute favorites. Being a Boston band, I feel fortunate to have seen them many times throughout their career, as they kept getting more popular.

Definitely check out those Acetone reissues. The box set is already gonzo but was expensive. That comp is absolutely beautiful though. I have all their records at this point. I would grab the s/t one or If You Only Knew if you had to only buy 1 or 2. Morphines will also be on my list. Youngbloods label Racoon also notable for releasing those early Michael Hurley LPs which I adore.

Nice choices here, NM. Need that Julee Cruise. Ary Lobo piqued my interest - not familiar. Kiko is my fave from Los Lobos, as well. "Wake Up Dolores" is stunning. Breeders release was great. One of my top 90s LPs. Saw them a couple months ago playing Last Splash in full here in LA at the Wiltern. Wasn't great pitch-wise on the Deal sisters vox but the show was amazing, of course. The Calexico box sounds so, so good. I was very pleasantly surprised by that one. They play with the Tucson Symphony in Jan - gonna try and make the trek. Please join! The Acetone is underrated. Superb music! I bet that Big Bill is great. Never had a Sam release I didn't love. Looking fwd to your jazz video on this topic. Cheers from down the coast!

Costello and Bacharach first collaborated with each other (via fax machine) in 1995 to compose the song God Give Me Strength for the motion picture Grace Of My Heart. The success of that song led to the album Painted From Memory a couple of years later (which included it).

I have a 12inch vinyl of Monsoon Ever So Lonely, it was a hit record in the U.K. in 1982. I remember seeing Sheila Chandra on Top of the Pops singing this song, it was the first time a female Indian singer appeared on any English chart show. Her band she was in Monsoon also released an album Third Eye back in 1983. She has been compared to George Harrison as being a big influence in bringing Indian music to a mainstream audience back in the 1980’s. Unfortunately she suffers from Burning Mouth Syndrome and can no longer sing or even speak 😂

  • @bacarandii
    @bacarandii 10 месяцев назад +1

Analogue Africa!!! Love that label -- and that Ary Lobo is something I must look into. (You really should get one of those hats.) I also just want to second the love for the Kinks, the Meters, Los Lobos, Little Feat, Calexico, Talking Heads (where did you get that 2023 "Stop Making Sense?" I can't even find it on Discogs), and Elvis & Burt (seen both of them multiple times, though never together -- BB's last show at Jazz Alley in, maybe, 2017 [?] is something I'll always treasure). I don't know what you were referring to, but there's really nothing "schmaltzy" about "The Darkest Place," "This House Is Empty Now" (maybe a sequel to "A House Is Not A Home?"), "Toledo," "Painted From Memory..." (And, as an aside: I love "God Give Me Strength," the first Bacharach & Costello collaboration, which was written for Allison Anders' fantastic 1996 fictional pop music history mashup, "Grace of My Heart," which ingeniously combined threads from the lives of Carol King [and other Brill Building legends], the Beach Boys, Phil Spector, Ike & Tina and Lesley Gore, with original music by Joni Mitchell, J. Mascis, Jill Sobule, Shawn Colvin, Tonio K... If you haven't seen it, do.)
I had forgotten all about the Youngbloods (which I always used to confuse with the Yardbirds -- the name, not the music). Maybe it's because Krist Novoselic's twisted quotation from "Get Together" (nice a cappella version of yours, by the way) in the intro to Nirvana's "Territorial Pissings" kind of blew them down the memory hole for me. Thanks for the reminder about the Morphine albums (which I have on CD) and Julee Cruise. I have the "Twin Peaks" and "Fire Walk With Me" soundtracks on LP, but "Floating Into the Night" only on the original CD. It's such a quiet record that I'm wary of noisy vinyl, but both Music On Vinyl and Sacred Bones have LP versions, so maybe I'll give one of them a shot. Her spooky, ethereal voice and Badalamenti's music give me goosebumps.

I know that we are not getting any younger (I'm 71), and sometimes we tend to forget things. We start forgetting the little things like zipping up our pants, our wallets, or our car keys, it's time to start worrying. Then there are those real serious black hole types of dementia driven memory losses that mean it might be time for some sort of treatment, like forgetting to put on your pants altogether or not remembering that those $357.00 concert tickets we bought weeks ago were for last night's concert, or leaving off the 40th anniversary reissue of the Violent Femmes self titled first album from our top 20 list. A 3 lp set with demos and live cuts plus a 7" replica single. With new liner notes by Robert Fripp. ????

Ah, dear Mr. Mazzy... We do not overlap in a lot of areas, but Sir your #1 choice is indeed F***'n FANTASTIC! 👍Morphine is truly one of THE most singular and fascinating great bands of all time. BTW... I know you are always talking about Light in the Attic and they are awesome. Get this... I ordered what was supposed to be the 2-LP pressing of 'Good' from a well known record store in Canada, the name escapes me now. BUT... they mistakenly sent me Cure for Pain. I already had the LITA pressing so I just let it sit for a while. Well, when I finally opened it I was quite shocked to see that it was 2-LPs! I'm like WTF!?? Then I noticed that it was a Run Out Groove pressing, not a LITA pressing!
I listened to it and *WOW!* Dude, I am not $h*tting you man, as good as the LITA 1-LP is, this 2-LP mutha frigg'n BLEW it away! I could not have been more shocked. I'm tell'n you Bro... If you really like Morphine, and apparently you do, make sure you check out the Run Out Groove 2-LP versions, because this one blew my frigg'n PANTS off! Seriously...

As an aside to my last comment….
In 1971 my girlfriend…now my wife’s father was a senior producer in the BBC here in the UK and he had two Elektra executives to dinner. I was talking to one of them about my love of The Doors and he to me ‘Check out David Ackles first album, I think it’s a masterpiece’
So I of course went out and bought it and I still love it. Have you got it in your collection?
Well worth pulling out for your It’s the Music Stupid!
    Best wishes

I have a couple of Sheila Chandra records from the 80’s. Very good. Stop Making Sense was filmed at the Pantages. I saw them a couple of days earlier in Long Beach. Overnite Sensation was a jumping on point for many. It was the jumping off point for me. The most anticipated album for me is SSD The Kids Will Have Their Say. This album sells for over $1,000. The bootlegs sell in the hundreds. It has never been reissued. I found out it was being reissued last year. The reissue sold out and I missed out. A 2nd press is being issued and I preordered one. I know SSD is not your thing but boy did this need a reissue.
