  • We were honestly shocked to see this phenomena in person. The really good footage starts at about 11:00 minutes in and continues for several minutes. It defies logic and we captured it on film in great detail doing all kinds of amazing things. Watch our documentary of the Joplin Ghost Light and judge for yourselves.....what do you think it is?
All film footage is ours. All pictures used were either public domain or used by permission.

The old man in the black and white pic is 'Ol Spook. He lived right on Spook Light Road and had animal skulls hung up all over his porch. Mom was little but said he really was a Spooky old dude.

I have family land between spooklight road and E 40. I've seen it on that property many times. It was closer than this, and just as bright. This was from 1980 to recent. My great grandparents owned the land before me, and they have seen it do everything described, but not through their house. I'm setting roots out there this summer, so I may just place hunting cameras all-over. Love this light. We believe it's a scientific phenomenon. The land around is full of mines, natural caverns of limestone, karst here and there, Flint, underground springs.

The ghost light I saw was as real as my car and me sitting at the crossroads in Auburn before you get to Cardwell Missouri, on the right and a special curve which I'm sure you know of. I’m very interested in visiting this site . May I ask is this something people have tried to get close to in order to examine better ? Or is this more of a mirage looking thing ? Is this the only isolated site with something like this or is the entire area pretty well populated with some unexplainable phenomena? I know a lot has occurred history wise in Oklahoma and Missouri

Hey guys, Steve Workman here... The light can actually be seen on at least three roads, one in in Missouri one is the state line. The only in recent years paved the main spook light road. I live just miles from it.
I have probably seen it a hundred times. The most interesting of those times was on a double date with Shannon Workman my cousin, we were parked with our girlfriends and the light broke into 3 crept down the road to just off our hood of my car, the. Shot like lightning through the car right between our shoulders! When I looked in the rear view mirror it was behind us! A guy I played with used to live near the end of the road and late at light it would come creeping up to his beadroom window, and sometimes would be in his bathroom.
    I have numerous stories.
    Nice video.

As a teenager we would load up a car full of kids and go to the drive-in at Neosho. Once the move was over we'd drive over and watch the spook light to the wee hours of the morning. Depending on what the movie was would set the mood of the evening. Our 4/H group also had hayrides at the spook light. Lot of fun memories.

I’ve actually seen the Spooklight before near the OK/MO border, but one thing I’ve never seen (after 50+ years of living in Oklahoma) is anyone just sitting around playing a banjo.
I know it is some kind of stereotype for Oklahoma, but I’ve travelled to all corners of this state, and outside of maybe being played in a western or the occasional bluegrass band, no people on porches plucking on a banjo.

I saw it with some boys from Quapaw High in 75. I am hard to get to believe this kinda thing but seeing is believing. It wasn't on the road when we saw it. It doesn't shine like a flashlight, it just kinda glows. We started into the woods, hell we were all on the football team, about 20 steps in it zipped away, gone. Still gives me goosebumps.

I've seen it much closer than this, up in the treetops just to the left of the car I was in. Its intensity varied and dim little "satellite lights" appeared around it just as you see here, but it was bluish. Until I saw this video, I wasn't sure whether I had seen the dimmer "satellites" or not, because I was pretty shaken up. There was an unreal quality about it. That probably had more to do with my reaction to it than anything else.
I'm sixty-one years old. When I was a kid, my grandmother lived in Quapaw. She was born in the 1890s and had known about it for most of her life. My mom had known about it for all of hers. No question that it's real.

First of all it turns into different colors, it moves every direction and very high then down to the earth! It's bright then dim. I have seen it several times and I drank soda in a booth inside old spooky Joe's museum, boy could he tell the scariest stories. If there is anyone that has not seen the spook light... You need to watch this cuz its a true filming of the spook light, I know this becuz I have seen it too! It has been studied closely by scientist and the Army corps of engineers and it was classified by both, as a light of unknown origin. There is a similar spooklight in Neosho, MO. It isn't as nearly well-known as the Joplin spooklight. I went to high school in Neosho (mid 80s) and I remember going there with some friends as a teenager. I couldn't say where it is now, however.
As I recall, the Neosho spooklight has a much more sinister backstory than the Joplin spooklight. The Neosho spooklight backstory is likely just an urban legend but the story is that the light was from an executed child kidnapper/murderer. He supposedly had an eye injury that left one of his eyes permanently open. Because of this he would sleep with one eye open and the children that he kidnapped wouldn't escape.

I'm pretty sure if you want to be technical it should be called "The Quapaw Spook Light" since the location of the light actually appears to be in the Quapaw line, making this light actually in Oklahoma. Isnt Hornet, MO the town you can view it from? Seems like Oklahoma got the shaft on the naming of the light considering it appears to be just over the MO line in most cases/encounters.

In my opinion it looks like lights that may be from some other worldly origin or it's some type of paranormal activity that cannot be explained, maybe try finding the history of the area or information hopefully you find out good luck guys....

    Headlights from Rte. 66?

+Elliot Kirschbaum Originally, before seeing it in person, that is what I thought it was. Even more so, I believe that is what some people are actually seeing today. I say that because I went back with a very good telescope and set it up in the general location we were that night. After dark the lights appeared, but they didn't look or behave the same way those did the night we filmed this footage. Through the telescope they were obviously car lights, and you could also see a flashing railroad crossing light in that general direction as well. But then, when I though I had it figured out, something really cool happened. A light of a totally different size and consistency appeared BELOW the horizon line and begin to move back and forth across the road in front of us. As soon as I saw that I immediately recognized it as what we filmed (which we also saw below the horizon that night at different times, the footage used in the opening was actually in the bottom of a dip with the road rising up in elevation behind it.) You could still see the car lights in the distance and could look right at both of them and compare the two. Also, the sightings of this thing have been reported since way before the time of cars, and there are even credible photos of it today in places where you can clearly landscape and trees behind it. So, in part I agree....you can see cars from that general location, and they are easily dismissed as such. But if you truly see it you will know right away that it isn't car headlights. All these really smart people (universities, scientists, the US Government) having actually witnessed this phenomenon have unanimously ruled out car lights....except for the video the Boomers did supposedly debunking it all together as car lights. To be fair to them, I watched their video, and what they filmed was in fact car lights. I even came to the same conclusion 100% myself with the telescope when I was clearly viewing car lights. They can kind of be mistaken as the spook light if you are wanting to see something. But, if you actually see the spook light, you would probably be as perplexed as everybody else. Thanks for watching.

Dude you explanation does not answer my unique encounter as I stated I lived less than a tenth of a mile off the spook light road where it ends at the state line of Missouri and Oklahoma . The boomers and others have not solved shit!!! Directly behind me in 1998 during a thunder and lighting in a heavy snowstorm ( strange in and of itself ) I saw a glow that was not consumed for over two hours directly behind me less than a 1/4 mile no where near the road itself. My mother in law when I asked her about it said there was gold buried there long ago I believe exotic rare earth minerals are in that area.

After listening to a banjo playing over the top of some people talking for just over a minute and a half, and seeing some poor quality pics of a light, which could have been anything, I turned it off. Play the banjo (which served no useful purpose to the subject matter of the video) or let us listen to the people-not both. I couldn't hear either one very clearly. Waste of time.

I have seen it three times. the light is always at a distance. So I am skeptical of the people who say it was in their car or on their hood. at the end of the road, going west, the road turned left.
What I thought was wierd was after you had gone down to the end of the road, the light would appear behind you, east, from where you came, as always, at a distance.
