  • LEWIS NOBLE. CHATSWORTH PARK. Collage Sketching in Studio. Artist Demo
Lewis Noble working in his studio to create collage artwork from sketches made in the landscape at Chatsworth House Park, April 2018.
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

They seem perfect when he crops them, without any additional layers.

Very inspiring. Looks so easy, but I know it’s tricky to make these compositions so fast.

Thanks! It's just practice. I've done so many, it's easier for me to see possibilities.

@@LewisNobleArtist I have just found you. Great work, very inspiring. My aim would be to frame my work In floating frames , how to do do it with a collage, where people might touch it. I am going ahead, but I still haven't found the answer. Many thanks for sharing. Gina

Thank you for this latest video - very inspiring as always! I love the way that you create new compositions from an amalgamation of existing sketches :-) ...... apologies if this has been asked before, but which paper do you use for your outdoor mixed media sketches? Many thanks.

Sarah de Mattos Hi, thank you so much it makes them
worth doing. In answer it’s pretty ordinary cartridge paper heavyish 200lb. Don’t use anything too fancy or it makes you precious about tearing it up!
