    Graticules was explained to me as how a degree scale is used to quickly estimate distance. So, at 400 yards a 6' man is a little higher than the 1/4 degree vertical marking and I suppose with practice troops could become very skilled at making the estimations. Another lovely pair of binos mate ! ..awesome !!

      Cheers jimblers m8...yes I've read this before, I just couldn't remember it...but as you state with practice I reckon one could get quite good at it...its nice to look through them 🙂🙂

    good video. misty prisms are the pits. zippo lighter fluid wd40. for weeks if not used for 40 years . 1940s they mostly used whale fat for lubbe .it will turn to rock over 80 years.

    other than the objective lens having short barrels yours are exactly like my Dr Wohler Kassel German 8x42 1930's binoculars. Mine have prism adjustment screws. Super easy to collimate. Better than eccentric rings.

      Cheers and thanks very much for the comment, they sound like an interesting pair of binos....I'm just a rank amateur at this but I like to give it a go🙂🙂🙂, also I've subbed your channel 😊😊

      @@steelhelmetstan7305 I've taken the eye pieces apart and yes they are very fine fragile threads there. Mine have great clarity and sharp focus. I just went outside to see Jupiter. I can see little white dots around it and I know those are the moons.

    In the old days if I ever took something apart it would either not go back together or if it did there would always be parts left over ☹️

      Thanks Chris...how I look at it is , if they are knackered and you've paid not much for them then have a go. Mind you fernglas 08's are unbreakable, I've had a few and they have all been usable...good german technology 🙂🙂🙂

    Nobody has attached the neck straps onto binoculars that way since the Dark Ages! 😛

    • @steelhelmetstan7305
      @steelhelmetstan7305  Месяц назад +2

      🤔🤔🤔how would one connect them?....going off my other pairs it seems to be the order of the day....still nice to have the canvas strap 🙂🙃🙂

    • @Landsturm
      @Landsturm Месяц назад

      @@steelhelmetstan7305 Yeah, nice khaki strap and I guess that the way it is fed through the buckle is the way it was done back in the day, so no problems. However, for your modern bins there is a more secure method that stops the straps sliding through the buckle - plenty of RUclips videos to show you - just type in 'attaching a neck strap to binoculars'.

    Stan has anything happened with CJ from military collectibles?
    All of the videos I've kept have disappeared and I can't find his website any where

    • @steelhelmetstan7305
      @steelhelmetstan7305  17 дней назад

      Hello Stuart, dastardly deeds afoot!!!....CJ has been deleted by youtube for hate speech. He has a channel up with one video called 'militarycollectablesotherchannel ' all one word. Failing that look on my last video REL binoculars and you will see he has commented on that, you should be able to find his explanation, a very sad day for the uk militaria collecting community....cheers stuart
