Nah, I'm using it in read mode so it won't do anything bad. If you started playing with writing back to the ECU too frequently, in theory you could burn out the eeproms since they can only be written to so many times before failing.
Hey, sysadmin here ... Do you think you can write on the main bus via another port? I'd like for example... To tell that air intake temp is colder than it actually is... It would be curious to experiment
I think a better way to do this would be a potentiometer or resistor on the signal wire direct from the thermostat sender. But I have no idea what the voltage range is on that sender and what sort of range that currently provides. Trying to do this in-computer would likely be a major pain.
This is sick. What's is the fastest refresh you can do with that OBD2 reader? I want to do something similar with a tablet or phone display in the center console with the radio taken out.
It wasn't that fast - if I did faster than 1 second the library puked. But for temp gauge at minimum that is frequent enough. I have to play with more of the sensors to see which ones actually make sense to have up there with the slower response time. I may also expand it to do some peak/valley tagging too (so high boost/low boost, high temp/low temp) so I can look at a glance. I'll probably show off the little enclosure I got with the screen for the Raspberry Pi I ultimately plan on using. Right now it is sitting on my office desk as a weather station/desk clock.
@@ihavemadeahugemistake The overboost/ oil pressure/ and oil temp are really the ones I would be concerned for higher refresh with since the factory cluster really sucks for information.
