      With living organic soil, is it best to keep it a constant consistent moisture, or as with other mediums, is it better to let it dry out a lil in cycles?

    100% way to get rid of fungus gnats place your soil in plastic totes and add 1 gallon of boiling water to the soil. The steam from the water kills all fungus gnats and eggs. Have not had a fungus gnat problem in over 3 years since learning this technique.

    I've found drying in around 60-70% rh is great hanging for the first 5-10 days then drying in large tuberware with lids half open at 62% to 65% is ideal then dry trim and go into jars or turkey bags to finish off. Dry trimming i've found is the best for flavor and terps :)

    what you have to keep in mind when you're opening that to burp it what is the humidity in the room. For that air is going to get into the jar!! It's like leaving the butt on the table if your humidity in the house is 55 it will stay nice 60 it will get wet 50 or 40 it will dry out with all your trichomes

    The Boveda packs are magical. They help bring humidity down as well as hydrating up. If you have bud that's around 65-70% the 62%RH pack will bring it down steadily and keep it at 62% (same for 58%RHpacks). Didn't believe it til I tried.

    I know gram/watt is a bad measurement, but I've seen viparspectra beat Mars hydro with the same grow variables. The Mars has more green, which is less efficient and the plant doesn't use it as much, but I think it does affect how big the nugs are. Blue and red make chlorophyll a & b, which seems to make more terps and cannabanoids, lacking the green makes it less pretty though.
    The smaller, but stinkier buds, are my choice

    Also, can I top dress the soil with some more happy frog to bring up levels once they go down? Or is that a no no, and I need to put in regular amendments like dr earth 4-4-4 or something around their until time to flower and then change to a 2-8-4 when flowering and a 0-12-1 for final amendment 2 weeks before harvest. Then flush before harvest.. Does this make sense?

    I know my opinion on Hermies just wondering what yours is?

    Defoiliation depends on your lights Penetration like the sk600 supposedly has good penetration that wouldn't require too much defoiliation. But thats also a 1300$ light

    • @nihilityjoey
      @nihilityjoey 3 года назад

      Defoliating is a cannabis myth. And the whole thing about light penetrating the canopy to expose bud sites is a part of it. Photosynthesis doesn't work like that, and leaves don't just absorb light they are a part of the plants ability to move around nutrients and to let the plant respirate. Removing a few leaves at the bottom of the canopy for air movement won't decrease yields (it still damages the plant) but heavy defoliating will and does. And any videos you see claiming otherwise have no real tests done to show this, the same for topping. Good feeding, good environment and proper light management are keys to unlocking a plants genetic potential. Chopping leaves, topping is like you taking parts of your lung out then claiming it makes you breath better.

    • @soulseeker42388
      @soulseeker42388 3 года назад

      @@nihilityjoey brother i have done leaf stripping and not and there is a benefit to doing leaf stripping for light penitration if i dont remove a few leafs the bottom it nothing but loose larf buds not even worth trimming but if they receive the right amount of light then they grow properly and full thick and dense.. look at your bottom leafs if they dont get enough light they get yellow and die. You can believe what you want but ill believe facts science and my own proof from doing it

      @@nihilityjoey part of why you dont have to defoiliate out doors as much to is because the sun has best penetration even the thickest canopies in the world still let light get to the forest floors. Only reason for defoiliation on out door plants is for air movement and pervent powdery mildew. But unless you have that penetration then you have to lollipop and do some defoiliation especially indoors under leds. Look up the inverse square law. For every foot your light is away from the plant the strenght dims by half

      @@soulseeker42388 Your plants yield is more or less set in its genes. I would suggest you look up sciences View on defoliating and also how plants use photosynthesis. You can believe what you want, but there is no proof scientific or otherwise about pruning. In fact it's becoming aparrent it's the opposite. In studies done every plant that was exposed to excessive pruning lost yield, tomatoes etc. Again slight pruning doesn't hurt yield, but it doesnt increase it, and when a certain tipping point is reached, the practice harms the plant, decreasing yields. Saying the plants bounce back better is like saying you are getting somthing for nothing. All of the energy the plant has stored in veg and early flower, cannot be put back in, if you have less leaves than you started with. You can't break the laws of physics. Especially when the plant is then using its stored energy into recovering. Do you ever wonder why breeders like greenhouse don't defoliate? Don't top, and grow indica plants that can have over 150g dry weight, after only 4 weeks of veg? Yet even the "best" growers are defoliating, topping and vegging their plants for months, and getting about the same? How big an increase in yield would there be if say greenhouse vegged a healthy plant for 2 months, instead of 4 weeks? I grew a two foot stardawg plant, never touched anything, in a 3 x 3ft. Cupboard, with the weakest of climate control, and light leakage that would make most on here cry. But my environment, light and feeding got me 125g of dry weight after 4 weeks of veg, off a two ft plant. My fan gets turned off in the night cycle, and my extractor provides enough pull of air to stop it from being stagnant. I didn't need to prune. There is so much urban legend stuff out there, but you just telling me that it works is different from a proper scientific study being done, which is coming, and when it does it will be interesting to see how growers react.

It isn't so shut up your point is mute there are too many including the people in this pod cast qho swear and have proven light defoiliation and doing it properly has a beneficial effect goodbye i will not argue with a moron

    How expensive is it to start growing? Startup and after that, for approximately 4-6 plants.

    In general defoliating a cannabis plant can be good & very bad ! It mostly depends on when its done..
    Anyone know the old rhyme, The leg bone is connected to the Knee bone, Knee bone is connected to the Thigh bone etc etc..
    A plant functions pretty much the same.. Defoliating a leaf from a plants main stem node actually stuns the whole node, the branch growing from the node that was originally connected to a Fan leaf will literally stop growing or grow very slowly..
    So defoliation should only be done after the plant has gone into flower & has finished most of its stretch, since it does not really need the main stem & branch fan leaves anymore, it will just use its bud leaves to do photosynthesis..

    First timer here. My one plant is too tall (40inch in a 72 inch top tent). Can I hack my 6 good branches off and make 6 good clones with the good newer spaced nodes and raise a full 3x3 tent?

    Nobody has been able to tell me why you need that much wattage. I still have no idea.
    Is the wattage somehow tied to the photosynthesis? I figured light was light when it came to that

    Wait sooo when flowering it has to be at 50 humidity ?!? Cause I’m hitting 60-65 I recently bought a small dehumidifier but it doesn’t work too well specially when I have to water it hits like 70 humidity. But I haven’t seen any mildew signs. But I’m a novice so maybe I just don’t have the eye for it yet
