- Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party begins performances tonight at New York City Center where a cast of Broadway stars will give the raucous musical new life for Encores! Off-Center. Running through July 18, the show (which premiered off-Broadway in 2000) is adapted from the Jazz Age narrative poem by Joseph Moncure March. The story follows one tragic, decadent night in a Manhattan apartment shared by Queenie (two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster) and her menacing lover Burrs (Steven Pasquale). With Miriam Shor, Brandon Victor Dixon, and Joaquina Kalukango adding to the powerhouse cast, get a sneak peek at the production with samples of the score's "Raise the Roof," "An Old-Fashioned Love Story," "The Life of the Party," and more.
STEVEN PASQUALE. I need a full recording of him singing this show.
That seems to be true for every show he does.
Erika Flynn the video doesn't even do him justice. I was at the show - when he sang What Is It About Her, you could feel it in your chest like thunder or something.
Benjamin Viagas THANK YOU! His "nooo" before intermission everyone just sat there breathless. And "Make me happy" i have never EVER had my heart beating like that in a musical, ever. And you could cut everyone's tension with a knife
Oh my goodness! I had no idea that Sutton and Miriam were in Wild Party together. That's awesome. I just thought they met on Younger.
Sutton is more Kate than Queenie....
Saw this last night and had to keep reminding myself that it was real. I HAVE to have this cast recording. Wish I could see this show every night
I love this song and musical!
LOVE Sutton, but don't find her edgy enough for this role... So hard for me to admit!
+Julia Lindsey I feel the same way. Love her, but not everyone is suited for every role. Julia nailed it. Steven sounds incredible here too, and I didn't think anyone could even touch Brian D'Arcy James in that regard.
I'm glad to hear someone else agrees. Sutton's a lil too girl next door-ish. Even Reno Sweeney had an All American-ness to the role which was suitable for Sutton.
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!!!!!! I feel like Megan Hilty would've been a good choice
all for Steven Pasquale 1:19
so unreal
miriam shor is so underrated. i loved her performance of wilkommen in younger when they were at the kit kat club. i think the episode was called fraudlein season 5 episode 11?
This made my head explode! Love it!!! Every voice is stellar and gave me chills! 😁
Not sure about this. I don't think Sutton foster is very good for queenie, also hating that they changed 'come with me' to 'you and me'. What's that all about?
Hope Roundabout might be interested in picking this up for next season.
+Dina Jacobson From what I've heard, they used this performance to try some new things and see how people reacted. But some things were changed simply because they didn't have time to do it in this production. If they brought it to broadway it would be done differently. I saw this production and it was fabulous, if they fixed the few flaws it has it would be insanely good.
I need a cast recording pretty please 😍
justDAMON there's one but not with cast on Spotify
Sutton is a legend, just not right for queenie..........
Saw this show on 15th july and it's was SO much better than this video captures...
every lead was either miscast or poorly directed...except for Steve
and he was the original stand-by so that's... telling.
this is like the glee version of lippa's wild party. just doesn't tell the story as powerfully as it should. and i love sutton but this was terrible casting, she can't belt the notes and she really isn't convincing in this role. what a bummer.
Sarah Adams did you see it live?
I agree. I saw it live and she really wasn't it. Love Sutton, but the role requires someone with intrinsic grit and sensuality.
that was fun
Steven's voice is amazing but the acting at 2:33 SUCKS
Omg I laughed.
Almost everyones voice cracked in the video except leads :/
muge oskay Yeah that was so weird. I saw it the other night and everyone was FLAWLESS. I am convinced this was their first dress or some rehearsal where everyone was dead tired and not great. Because I swear to you everyone was flawless and INSANE!
Terra Ryan I thought so. Thanks for the feedback,i wish i could see the show too
muge oskay I saw the show last night and their voices were UNREAL. Flawless. No cracking. Just amazing.
Nothing wrong with a crack from now to now! After all these are human beings performing in live theater. Cracks are going to happen!
I'm literally only here for a good old-fashioned love story
honestly i do not like this version at all. stephen is great as always. but 1:46 made me reevaluate my life decisions
who's it gonna be who'd it gonna be who's it gonna be who's it gonna be
Wow... I’m still shook at how bad this is.. everyone is ROUGHHHHHH except steve.. but still he looks over it, and I don’t blame him. It was like this music was out of everyone’s range...who cast this??
Hard for me to say it, but this isn't Ms. Sutton's role.
Every single person sounds like theyre damaging their voice
RYAN STEELE.
so is the song a happy ending just in this one
What a terrible version of this show. Watching Sutton in this role is like watching someone beat a dead horse. Lippa must be desperate for money to allow the public to have actually seen this show. And that wig... community theatre quality at best.
yes, awful...I'll go back and watch the movie
Sutton is no Julia Murney .... I can't
That’s because she’s Sutton Foster. They’re not the same person.
So, Brandon Victor Dixon is a brilliant vocalist, but why does he need to riff every note??
A riff, just like any choice an actor makes, needs to come from a place of truth, and when a performer riffs just to show-off, they come across as not very intelligent performers..
I'm sorry, but people, how dare you to compare Sutton Foster (i love her, though) to the QUEEN JULIA MURNEY???
does anyone know the title of the song at 2:22? :)
'Make Me Happy'
What did they do to make me happy. It's meant to be tense and terrifying as you see this guy descend into utter madness as the two other characters beg for their lives...not some guy doing a jig on a bed -_-
Who's the guy singing 'What is it about her'?
Madame Corgi Steven Pasquale. Best broadway singer.
some acting is really crappy
lmao
Love Sutton on most days, but she ain't no Julia Murney.
Why not change the race of ALL the roles? Honestly, that would have made it better. In fact....white people off broadway would be great
