    Thank you so much for this video! I’m planning on moving over from Cairns in a few years to study veterinary science, since the JCU in cairns doesn’t offer it. It’s an 8 year thing, so just really trying to make sure it’d be somewhere I’d want to semi-move to for that time. Not particularly fond of the dryness compared to our rainforest, but you gotta do what you gotta do 😂

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  3 года назад

      Fair enough Zoe. There are other good vet science programs in Oz if you want to look further afield than JCU. Like Vet science at CQU Rockhampton (also dry though) or animal ecology at Sunshine Coast near Maroochydoore (plenty of lovely bush and ocean around here!)

    Murdoch, Flinder, Curtin is just one word. Why is one word more attractive in the name of a university, such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or Columbia?, because it is more marketable and easier to remember.

    Im currently doing my bachelors of marine sc and I adore this uni but the town itself sucks so bad haha 😂, if you’re from a big city, you will probably suffer over here since not even public transport is reliable, having a car makes the experience 100% better

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  2 месяца назад

      Yeah I think that's a fair comment. Townsville is relatively small. Anyone from a big city, and particularly international students from large cities overseas, might be a bit shocked that everything is closed pretty early!

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  3 года назад +1

      So many good options for that. It’s an incredibly broad field and every uni has strengths. Climate is great at UNSW, Natural Hazards at Macquarie.
      Do you have anything you’re specifically interested in or are you keen to start general and find something you really like once you get into it?

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  3 года назад +1

      You’re welcome mate and I think your approach is good.
      Realistically, you’ll find good generic introductions to environment topics at all the major unis. I did that at Macquarie and loved it. USYD and UNSW also have great programs, as does UTS.
      That’s if you want to be in Sydney.
      If you’re interested in an experience outside a huge city, you could also consider Wollongong and Newcastle. Both have good enviro programs ans beautiful natural environments to boot. They are close to the beach, cheaper than Sydney but still within a couple of hours if you want to head it.

    I was there on weekend and apart from the new building you showed and the one under construction the place was a mess. The ring road is very poor condition, western campus is bored up, the engineering buildings I studied in in mid 90s and were very old then are still the same, the old student accommodation that was a disgrace 30 years ago is still the same. Half the campus needs to be demolished. The tennis courts were in an unusable condition, I am embarrassed to say I went there.

    • @ChoosingYourUni
      @ChoosingYourUni  Год назад

      An interesting perspective. My first visit to JCU Townsville was in 2005. On my last visit I thought the place was looking a hell of a lot better than back then. But then again, you only get to see so much when you’re around for a day or two. You’ve obviously spent a lot of time on campus and can really see how things have evolved across the board.
      It’s one of the challenges for the regional unis: capital works are expensive. They don’t have the big budgets like the mega city unis in Sydney and Melbourne. I’d love to think that Govts would chip in more, but that’s been a losing battle across both sides of politics, and both state and federal, for quite awhile now…
