    🤔What these women aren't getting is. If Caitlin is there, the eyes that watch her will then start to watch all the other greats in the league. When I was young, I watched Dominique play. That then led to me watching Jordan, Ewing, Morning, and all the other greats in the league. And that's what got me to watch NBA basketball. But from talking with a few women and men on the Caitlin stuff. The way the WNBA and the players in it are handling the matter. It's turning them off of watching. And that's what they don't need right now. Idk🤷🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️

    One key item in USA Basketball’s mission statement is “Its mission is to promote, grow, and elevate the game of basketball.” Women’s basketball is at a critical moment in time with its best and most popular female ambassador they have ever had. Dream team took Bird and Magic who were essentially retired and not top 12 to the Olympics because they didn’t need them to win games and their inclusion would popularize the sport immensely. And that’s why the men never had to beg for viewers or complain about being under compensated.

    becoz Team USA has always been about who are the 12 best american players SMH. Emeka Okafor and Anthony Davis got selected in the 2004 and 2012 olympic teams without playing a single NBA game, not even Summer League or pre-season or G-league. KG shouldve been on both 2004 and 2012 squads. The next best healthy players to replace Blake Griffin in 2012 after KG were Zach Randolph, David West, David Lee, and Josh Smith. But they went with a college kid who wasnt even in the NBA. Taurasi, Candace Parker, and Breana Stewart all made it to the Olympic teams in their rookie years which coincided with the Olympics. Why are the standards now tougher for CC. It never was about merit or credentials or experience. Her non-inclusion is tragic and disappointing, to say the least.

      Diana is past her prime and even Brittany is having a bad year so they arent the best. Even the dream had Patrick Ewing and Larry Bird 35 past their prime and Magic Johnson was old too but they were selling a team of superstars not the best players in the league. Point being Caitlyn is best for business and to continue the same thing over again is insane.

  • @dcfog81
    @dcfog81 3 месяца назад +3

    Diana Taurasi (04), Candace Parker (08), Sylvia Fowles (08), Breanna Stewart (16) all made the Olympic team as rookies. I'm trying to think about what the difference is here. Caitlin Clark's individual NCAA accolades are at least the same level as theirs.
    If it's player depth, we're already questioning Chlsea Gray and Taurasi, as you said. One can argue Taurasi shouldn't go for her 6th gold and give the same opportunity that she was given 20 years ago, participating as a rookie, to the next star.
    The only difference that comes to mind, ironically, is that Clark is too popular with fans. They're worried she'll be too much of a distraction. It would be like a fancy restaurant refusing to take a reservation for an A-list celebrity because it would draw too much of a crowd or distract the other people dining. If you're a smart business, you find some way to accommodate this person and figure out the crowd control because you want that publicity.

WNBA is probably the most unstable in terms of finances and desperately needs money to make profit for once in their 27 years of existence but are too arrogant and unaware to make any sort of accommodations. Having only “true fans”, I don’t know any myself, is what is leading them to demise. Never watched a WNBA game prior to CC. I'm trying, but they are making it really hard for me to get into it. Every time I watch, I have announcers, commentators, players telling me that great players have been here building it all and not just her... I know how sports work, stop woman-splaining me. I don't know why they can't see that she will bring the eyes with her butt on the bench, I mean the biggest game for attendance so far was between the 2 worst teams in the league. I'd rather watch curling than the woman's basketball... there's only so many missed lay ups I can watch.

    She actually checks both boxes but we’re not acknowledging that because of the past and emotions, what do I mean? Well CC is having a better season the Turasi, points, rebounds, assists, blocks. She’s also selling more merch than any woman in the wnba. The only true argument they have is “she’s a legend” well she’s 42 and has played in 5 Olympics and won 5. Team USA would rather Turasi get 6 golds then bring in the future generation and blow the doors off on the international stage. The fact that her numbers are better literally gave them the right to put her on the team.

    I think the WNBA is lacking vision right now. The NBA was saved by the Magic/Bird rivalry and exploded with Jordan. Clark is their Bird, they need to find their Magic. Sadly they dont seem to understand this and they are doing EVERYTHING they can to limit her impact. The really trippy thing is the media for some reason is all about helping them do it.

The BEST THINGS BEING DONE ON THE COURT WITH A BASKETBALL is being done by the MEN. But this chick accomplished something that turned people's heads in college. She beat the UNBEATABLE South Carolina team her junior year with a team that, respectfully, likely would never have made the tourney without Caitlin. And then her senior year she set the ALL TIME SCORING RECORD IN BASKETBALL. The most points scored by any woman OR man. That got people watching. That got people paying attention. That EVEN GOT PEOPLE TO CARE. She comes into the WNBA and the WNBA has an opportunity to capitalize and GROW their sport and all the WNBA can say is, "Naw, I don't need any of that." I'll check the score, but won't likely watch the game. The MEN will be playing.

      The logic is that this is an opportunity to promote women’s basketball that may never come around. The Caitlyn Clark hype train will not last forever. I will be very surprised if she has the same buzz four years from now. Basketball isn’t track and subjective decision must be made about who the “best” players are, that subjectivity opens up doors to allow her on the team. You “feel” like it should be complete meritocracy, and others disagree. That doesn’t mean the alternative position isn’t logical.

She's had a couple of games against the worst team in the league when she looked as advertised, but she has mostly been just above average. She has no handles, is slow, can't defend, and is a turnover machine. If you really know ball and have watched, CC isn't even the best of her rookie class when it comes to actual impact on the floor. There is nobody on that team for her position, that she is better than right now? Are you trying to win gold or appease toxic Clark fans?
