How about an electromechanical swanee whistle one?
The Burrrrr Bar
Mayonnaise
Glunkaphone - or a Clackerphone
You need to add LEDs to all the contacts
I was going to say just the same. It would be awesome looking if there was led or bulb strips that would run up with each pulse. Bit like blinkenlight panels of old computers.
LEDs are too modern. Neons would be better. Incandescents are probably too slow.
He did it lol
literally heavy metal sounds. someone build one for mick gordon plz
it could also be used for some dark and gritty dubstep-
I vote to hear DooM E1M1 on it! You could abuse the Arduino "Moppy" project, a software that takes midi and turns it into outputs for Floppies and stepper motors. Just ignore the DIR pins and use only the STEP pins. The software on the PC can be used to tweak playback more.
I think this is the most beautiful sounding instrument you've built. I really love the idea of a "bass" instrument going into a lower octave and becoming polyrhythmic percussion. RAD!
I love you Sam.. Rock on!
Today, this made me happier than my dinner did. And I had a very good dinner.
More and more often Sam has to say "Maybe don't try this" after his catchphrase 😄
This is the best indicator to keep track of how much the madness in Sam's head is growing.
Wow, the tone is glorious and in your face. I like to call this the metaltron!
That actually sounded a lot better than I expected near the end there. Nice!
At last! A keytar loud enough by itself to live perform!
Loudtar if I see correctly
Sounds like the tappets on my old Austin maestro.
04.37: Iron Man! That warmed this old rock fan's heart! 😅
Now this is proper Industrial.
Wow.. this is incredible, you keep one-upping yourself and I can't wait to see what's next
This takes me back to the opening credits in Groove with the raver girl nodding her head to the washing machine in the laundromat. PLUR baby!
Love the slow stutter
You made me smile.
Again...
Amazing to see what you are doing with electro mechanical stuff. Those uniselectors were used for serving up dial tone to customers and started to be phased out in the 80's as digital technology began to merge.
so much potential on that monstrosity, just add reverb/echo/delay/distortion etc or maybe slow down the waves samples, but prolly needs a strap with a back brace lmao :p
I'm imagining the electromechanics being put in something like a backpack that is connected with a long cable to the keytar.
Reminds me a lot of the Floppotron. Cool thing though, mechanical things are always a joy to see.
6:00 That was sick!
This is brilliant, Sam - you are half genius, half mad man! Incredible....
love the sound, it might sound huge if you give it a big wooden resonator box. Hope museum is going good
At this point im almost certain that you could turn anything into an instrument
*electric instrument
or synth instrument
@@mitchahbw Exactly. Nicolas Bras already cornered the market on bashing anything into an acoustic instrument.
You know what that made me think of. A keytar made with various small motors
this is the coolest sounding thing you've made yet, what an epic tone
The Flopotron did come to mind
These are bloody amazing! That sound is full of subtle harmonics which add to the metallic effect! Wonder how long they'll last as musical instruments though! Bloomin' marvelous work as always dude!
I'm glad that you use your powers for good and not evil!!!!
I love industrial music and this baby has potential!
hahaha those metal riffs with clanky "oscillators" great stuff!!
a row of nice chirping birds =)
Since birds often chill on telephone wires across the country.
You are quite bonkers I love it don't ever stop being you...stay safe and healthy
Whoa,Nice Crunch
I love everything you do man. This is so amazing
This is awesome! Another cool industrial sound from unexpected hardware!
Love it, love it love it.
Luv it . Always fun to watch this stuff u make
Finally, an instrument that can perfectly replicate the synth sound in Justice's Waters of Nazareth!
✞
This was a success.
nice jobbly on the kitty mitty Johnny!
I want to visit your museum so flippin’ bad! I want to plan my very first trip to Europe just to go, the stuff you make is spectacular and I want to play with it.
Pretty gnarly, as Sam would say!!
Consider adding a soundboard like a piano or guitar so that it can resonate better!
The sound out of this thing has got to be one of the best you've ever made
As a former grindcore guitar player turned synthhead i approve this beast and need one in my life 😂🤘🤘
I've found even MOSFETs with the integrated body diode still benefit from adding an external discrete protective diode. You can see the difference on an oscilloscope. Suggestion for the other rotary switch you haven't used yet: look up Gray code. It's an alternative way to count in binary that only changes the state of one line at a time, so that relay based circuits don't have a momentary invalid state while switching. Perhaps the same concept as Gray code could be applied to the rotary switch by wiring it up such that only one pole is cut in or out at a time. Then as it rotates around there wouldn't be a big change at a particular clock position, instead the switching changes would be uniform throughout whilst still providing a unique state to each position.
Literally industrial.
Love the work!
Completely nuts! Love it
Always fantastic stuff!
Does indeed sound metal. It reminded me of the music from Doom.
Nothing like life testing in 30 sec.
Goodbye death metal, hello motor metal!
4:28 : "It made my eye... ears ... like... NOSE-ibly tired!" ;D ;D
People would pay an amount of money to have a pedal for this 😜
Great work!
sounds awesome, glad the code helped, thx for the shout out!
So cool
Incredible!! 😳😉
Great sounds!
This one produces a really kickin sound. Please keep this one in the repertoire!
Kate Mosfets! XD that degree in electronics paid off, I got that joke!
Put sound of this through that Rotary Leslie drive.
Awesome bro so rad!.
I love it !
Most Excellent!!
That's marvellous
That is so cool... The most metal synth I've ever heard!! , I didn't realize this was a different video... I've been running around hectically trying to build this spooky synth box XD (I'm uploading a video now on that)
Would it be possible to double the rate by using two switches together at the same rate but offset in time?
That is already what he is doing. I think it's divided into threes though, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me with the framerate of the camera. As in, they are playing 1/3 of the frequency, but each of them is 1/3 of a beat out of sync with each other.
He could also use polyrhythms to go the other way, so low frequencies don't start sounding like individuals clicks instead of an actual note being played.
Brilliant thing man.
This thing is super sick!!!!
Onslaught to the senses
Dude you're a fucking genius! Yet another random invention that sounds amazing! Don't get me wrong your phrase "don't be afraid to try it" comes to mind with some projects here and there, but even if it's not perfect there's still something new/recycled and ultimately very interesting there :D
Looks like something for Author & Punisher
Daym, that's some Zeromancer stuff right there.
One smart guy
Love it! :D
Friggin right bud! This sounds diirrrttyyy
Your shadow in this vid looks spooky
This is very cool. Reminds me of some of the sounds in Lorn songs.
Damnit, now I want one of these 😂
Awesome!!!!
Auther & Punisher must be paying close attention.
Sam just originated Analog Telephone System Music.
.....this looks likena prime real-estate for trying to sequence old 8-bit game music on that thing....
It just sound so 😎
That truly is an angry machine and it needs vocoded to make its anger speak to the people! 😋
You my friend, are an "Evil Genius" :)
Awesome
Dude you litterly maid the best f***ing Dupstep sub base i every had to expirience! And im willing to pay for a OldShool Dupstepsong whit this!!!
Brilliant
Oh, this is where you got the parts for This Old Tony's present.
Put that into a video game!
Frank Zappa's spirit woke me up and told me to like this. Cheers.
This will be wicked in the museum! Baby is due next week but I'll try to figure out a way to get down by the end of the season
Baby Shmaby!!
You are amazing, coming at music from perspectives of a creative genius. With your on-going prolific contributions, one day, since your brain is now wired polar opposite of all other synth manufacturers...some day....you are going to create a synth that completely changes the way musicians play keyboard music. Just like Moog did some 60 years ago. Keep going my friend, you are on a road to a new genre.
Niiice. Very good relay sound.
Try to play with spring strength and boost pulses logic to increase oscillating speed. Of course you will not reach 1kHz, but will achieve few more upper notes.
it sounds like the mechanical noises on Muzik non stop by kraftwerk
This would fit really well in Mick Gordon Doom style music!
5:00 Metallica - One starts playing
