Great video. Turned out my spring was broken. I simply stretched what was left of the spring and hooked it back up. Unbelievably, it actually worked. Saved me a trip to the junk yard!
I can’t thank you enough, this was exactly what I needed to see. It was a small piece of mulch in mine and the plastic covering clicked apart not pulled but mine is from a Nissan Leaf so there will be differences. Again thanks so much for the public service, you’ve made my day and possibly my summer
There was some cloth stuck in mine this video gave me the confidence to cut my flashlight on and get to digging before I have to remove the housing. I got the cloth out thank you for this video!
Brilliant advice. The mechanism was different on mine so didn't really work like this. I used a dinner knife and as I was fiddling about I loosened a piece of foil that must have been jamming it up! Really pleased!
Many thanks from France for the tip! Though the car and the piece were different the problem was the same. I had no clue how to fix this and was wondering how much I would have spent for something that was not that complicated. Much appreciated and thanks for sharing!
Wow, after searching and searching, finally you were a perfect match with the problem I’m having. Thank you so much for playing forward what you learned! You helped me so much!
Thank you so very much for the advise on how to remove unwanted items from seat belt!!As I read the comments I found another person that had a dog latch stuck in buckle! I found out what he did & of course it worked! So happy to have my seat belt back in working order & no need to replace it like car dealership had recommended 🎉🎉🎉🎉
2004 Toyota Sienna here…confirming this technique worked for me. I detached the latch via the bolt and left the “airbag” wire connected. Bravo! Thank you!
Wow, and here I was thinking something complicated was going on, and it turned out to be a metal button from a pair of pants. Thanks for saving me from dissasembling unnecessary parts to fix this extremely uncomplicated mechanism. One caveat for my buckle "housing" was b4 pulling the metal piece forward to pop the housing down on the shaft, I had to shave a tiny bit of plastic in the top opening for the hardware inside to pop up through it. Fortunately, it was very soft molding and shaved off in seconds.
thankyou so much for this man. helped me see what was up with my buckle even though i found out mine was just old cracked plastic im glad to see theres a way to fix issues like this
thank you so much! there was a DIME terribly jammed in mine, I tried a bunch of small tools to wedge it out to no avail💀 screwdriver popped it out after a few tries before I had to open the whole buckle👏
Thank you - i needed to know it was behind the spring - you saved me 100’s at a shop - i refused to pay someone else when i knew i could do it easily 😂 👌🏾
Did you have to remove the seat? I got screwdriver in between the metal part and housing but nowhere to push housing down to, it stays in place. Tesla will send mobile service to fix it for CAD 175 which is not bad and very convenient but I’d still prefer to fix it myself :-(.
Thank you. Just today I found a spring put of the buckle. Couldn't put it in. It's a minor thing as I can put on the seat belt just fine (mostly) but the car kept beeping saying i wasn't using one. I'll disassemble it tomorrow and put it back. Thanks!
Amazing. The videos saying to spray WD40 had 0 affect then I found yours. 2016 Ford Transit. I got the casing off and found the exact same grommet stuck inside

I curse the design engineer who positioned the seatbelt buckle so far down in the area next to the console...I have to fight the thing down into the area and feel around a while, finally getting it in and feeling a sigh of relief when it finzlly clicks! Then reaching deep to get out of it. I had an idea...the back seat has a seatbelt for three people. I dont carry anyone back thrre anyway, but I figured I'd leavd the two on the outside alone and rob the center buckle and plug and make an extension. The plan was, to plug it into the female buckke and then have another female buckle up, slightly above the console that would be easy to get to. I plugged it in to make sure if how high to put thd other buckle and sewed it on my clothes sewing machine. Then, got a tent and aening company to sew the overlapped strapswith gheir heavy thread. They did a beautiful job and didn't even charge me anything and wouldn't even allow me to tip them!. I was tickled. I plugged it in and it sat right there, pretty as you please!...till I went to plug the male shoulder strap into it Nd, low and behold, the tang is 3/16" shorter on the front male plug than the one in thd back seat! I'm going to see if I can eliminate some plastic, to get more depth! WHO WOULD HAVE EVEN THOUGHT there would be two different lengths, in ste same dern car!!!
You rock for posting, brother - just saved me $70 and the shame of bothering my service shop with something i could do on my own. 2010 Charger - figured it wss the same part (heh)
Thanks for that I ve got two seatbelt buckles that won't work in my old toyota starlet, hopefully this should help fix the problem and save me buying new buckles
I watched this & went down w/ my weapons to fix this on a BMW. I don't even WANT to know what that piece would cost & I was buckling my seatbelt to the Passenger side for a week, riding alone. I couldn't get my red piece to pull out at all. Maybe it is not suppose to on that car. but I was digging away, I had nothing to lose really. I had a serrated edge knife too & at some point it caught something. It was a spring. A small one. But it was hooked to something. It took about 10 mins with a screwdriver, knife & scissors, but slowlyit came uncoiled and out far enough for me to pull it out, it wasn't easy & I had to use a towel on my hand. I thought, Ok, I just tore this whole thing up. But I kept going b/c now it wasn't gonna work for sure, there's a spring in the way. Pulled it out, works like a charm now. I am assuming the spring was the one that belongs in there?? I have Nooooo idea...
Holy c**p i would have never figured that out thank you it worked perfect on my toyota i was about to cut mine in half along the seam and would have probly lost a finger tip or something. Thank you again
Thanks dude. Not entirely sure if this is what's wrong with my girlfriend's seatbelt. She's managed to lock it, but by angling it and then other times it doesn't work.
The video I needed. Thx. My seat belt makes a buzzing noise when it's lose. I am thinking to open it, and fill the outer spaces with some rubber, or silicon
I have a Chrysler 200 15' the mechanism was a bit different and I couldn't get the buckle to come out.
