Still remember this moment, whole family sitting in front TV waiting for her performance.
That time no SMS and we don't have each other phone number. When she and her brother arrived in KL they went to my mom's office at Ministry of Defence (my mom come from same village, Kuala Lipis) to inform Siti enter this competition and went to final. They asking for blessings and pray for her success ❤️

This song belongs to Aishah, Siti's idol.. She really admire her idol bcz of the humbleness and all.. Aishah was a big star back then and Siti decided to follow Aishah's footsteps, look where she is now.. Extra info, Aishah debuted with the Fan Club while studying in New Zealand ( some did enter billboard chart tho) before making records in Malaysia.. She was the real deal.. Later on, she starting to feel that the producer want her to become someone else ( more like western ).. Aishah leaves her big career and stardom and go back to Malaysia continues her career in Malaysia instead.. Thats what make Siti ( and other people too) admires her so muchh...
This song is about returning home after travelling for a long time and yearning for the loved ones that you left behind.
The original singer, Aishah, in her youth, studied in New Zealand for her degree in the 80s, and build herself a singing career, with the Fan Club. She had a number of hits, one of them entitled "Sensation" which entered Top 40 of the US Billboard Hot 100.
So, after being away from Malaysia for years, she came back to Malaysia, and released her debut Malay album that included this song, Camar Yang Pulang.
Its like after years being away, she is saying, "Hey, my home land, Malaysia. I am back! I miss you so much. I miss my parents, family and relative. How have you guys been? It is great to be back!!"
Camar is a seagull which flies across the sea, migrating alone, and then coming back home after a long lonely journey and then settling down.
That is what this song is all about.

Siti Nurhaliza singer from my country Malaysia
Her melismatic style of singing was actually a breath of fresh air and quite literally revolutionary in those days. The popular female singers at the time like Ziana Zain mostly kept their notes crisp and straight. I remember even as a kid, finding Siti's runs and riffs extremely interesting. And then all of a sudden Siti-clones and sound-alikes started popping up like mushrooms. But she just kept improving and evolving vocally and artistically that it was hard for them to keep up. She really carved her own identity right from the get-go.
Siti was only 16 and this was the finale of the singing competition in which she won and brought her to become the most successful singer in malaysia as well as south east asia.
This was the moment as told by the late Adnan Abu Hassan-the composer that signed her and so many other popular singers, that he left his dinner table when he heard Siti's sound on tv for this finale of singing competition Bintang HMI.
Stunned with the voice, he stopped eating to focus, and he knew it at that time he must sign this girl. The very next day he managed to contact Siti and her family for the next arrangement. The rest is history ✨🌟

Thank you, Yazik, for this reaction. This was the beginning of this superstar. She was still shy at this time. She was more of a vocalist, and not into any choreography until she performed Cindai in the final of AJL.
She was pretty much the adored, sweet-adorable Malay girl-next-door that boys have a crush on and moms would love their daughters to emulate or have their sons date or marry!! 😁
Her name "Siti Nurhaliza" at that moment was considered so traditional or "kampungan", or modest with no diva-ish pizzazz.. but that is what in the end made her lovable. She stuck to her Malay roots, remain humble & sweet and stirs away from controversies.

I was barely 18 when this happen i rmmbr me n my housemate we all just a freshman at college sitting infront of tv waiting for this sweet pretty girl with name siti to perform. I rmmbr my housemate was already siti fans n she shout so loud happily when siti win. Then the next year siti become singer n like everywhere starting to conquering malaysia becoming malaysia sweetheart n household name
