Awe!! The King’s Palace! And the HMKG!! Warms my heart. My granddaughters would say julenissen as “you no listen” as Farfar and I would try and correct them. It’s a joke now here in our home.
From us in NYC ! Since we can’t all be there in beautiful Norway right now... so thanks and Tak so much !! Thank you for the lovely Jul morning ‘lesson’ and be well :) and GOD JUL !!
And l cooked Farikal with mom.3 hours. That was very delicious. And today l will make Kjottkaker.lm a viking boy!🇸🇯❤️And lm so sorry l deleted my comment.
Jól or Jólnir or Father Jól, are names for Odin, according to Wikipedia. Our “traditions” of today, seem mostly like modern things. I’m not sure if Christ was born on December 25. I do not believe the calendar was invented yet, at that time. I like Christmas, Yule, but I am skeptical about what we are doing. In this video, for example, a man is playing with dolls. Do we need an excuse for playing with dolls? ;-)
I think traditions are ever changing rituals. Probably that was also the case back in the pre-Christian ages. Seems like our year is filled with excuses to celebrate and play... Much driven forward by the mechanisms of capitalism perhaps. The Nisse is constantly being re-invented so that we have to go to the store and buy the latest edition. Anyways, you have some interesting views! Thanks for sharing :)

Good question! It is actually both Norwegian and Swedish, so works equally well in both countries.
Godt Nytt År! (Happy New Year)

I don't know what sacrifices you speak, as giving and surviving was the goal.
