The company started as a non-profit. It created a capped-profit subsidiary to take on outside investment (because training big AI is hella expensive) with the nonprofit still having full control. Sam does not own any shares (of the profit arm) and neither does the board.

An interesting piece of side commentary I've found on this is the finance world's reaction to this. There is a sense of disbelief in the fact that over 720 of the 770 employees have pledged to follow Sam. I thought it showed a difference in the type of person in the finance world vs the tech world. Would be interested to see you look at Fannie Mae's guidelines on significant deferred maintenance and the condo collapse in FL. Balance sheets of HOAs, reserve studys, etc.

I don't get how they had an ai open source music creator that doesn't use or take music from musicians but then they have one that steals art from artist. Is it it because music has a lot more protections and lawyers. Pretty much the idea of ask for forgiveness and not permission. Also the only reason they labeled themselves as a nonprofit was so they could legally get access to the Laion 5 data set of images which is only suppose to be used for research and not profit they then switched around and monetized it.
