Great work! You just taught me a new technique. I've said this before but I've learned a lot from you. I just fabricated a $48,000 platinum engagement ring for a customer. I wasn't doing any custom work at all a year ago, before I found your channel. Thanks so much!
Albert Ledesma Yes $48,000 USD. It had a 1.50ct (D,VVS1) center diamond, two 0.54ct (D,VVS1) diamonds next to the center, and ten 0.06ct (D,VVS1) diamonds going down the sides. I wish there was a way I could post a picture in the comments.
The ring is a real gem... Your work is as usual. Amazing A REAL pro..... And the music on this video was the best....especially the first song..... Thank you for teaching. Me...
I tried the cuttlefish method and its too much finish work unless you like the pattern it makes. I started using fine perlite powder mixed with fine cement powder. I can make like a thousand molds now for about 50 bucks and they turn out almost perfect. With fine and exact detail.
I had heard a bout cuttlebone casting but could hardly find anything about it. Nice to see someone doing it. But yeah very low mold impression, still, it's nice to see how and what the outcome is. Thanks!
i remember this from when i was young , but dont remember if we only used it on silver or also on gold , but nice to see it done again!! thank you for your good videos !!
I prefer this technique of jewellery making to newer technologies because the jewellery looks way cooler than mass produced run of the mill stuff everybody else has.
Lovely work, and an interesting mould-making method. I've seen similar methods using sandstone (for broches, etc.) but never cuttlefish 'bones', at least not in real life. Educational, entertaining, and artful. Perfect! =)
A great creation !!! perfectly explained without words ( they are not necessary) thanks a lot for sharing you are an artist merci :) :) :) C 'est superbe :) :) Un bonjour from french Brittany
I would love to have bendy thumbs, I see so many hand craft worker with thumbs like yours, makes holding these little Curved items much easier, mine are straight have no give in the top joints makes carving fiddly bit harder.
@@sorenakhosronejhad4787 Yeah, it definitely makes sense to bring it up because anyone thats actually gonna cast metal would wanna know this before hand because it friggin reeks badly! hi! love the video! i really want to try it out myself. I was wondering what material the cilinder to make space for the turquois is made out of. Thanks in advance!
Very very nice! The cuttle-cast turned out perfect. Your cuttle bone was dense and smooth. I've never seen any like that. But how about an alternative to using glue. Over here, jewelers avoid glue if possible. And never admit using it.
Hola, mi nombre es jorge villarreal y también soy joyero orfebre! ! Te pregunto de que material es para hacer los moldes, será yeso! !?? Espero pronto su respuesta Muchas gracias! Muy bueno sus trabajos saludos de cba argentina!
That's a lot of work to make a ring and then use a stone which doesn't appear to be real turquoise. I could be wrong. If so, where is the turquoise from? It just doesn't look right to me.
Customers often have gems or stones to which they are romantically linked. My job is to reinforce their wishes. An object is precious based on the value we give it to us.
In many years of work I came into possession of many different tools. I think it's wrong to buy everything right away. You need to buy the tools you need in each job, from time to time. With the passage of time we get to possess those tools that facilitate our work.

I didn't even know there were still people doing cuttlebone casting. That's awesome.

There are many good goldsmiths, often they remain in the shadow of important shops.
Awesome video. For those trying this out, you can use a toothbrush and brush the cuddle bone once you made your impression for exaggerated texture.
Poochlol “Cuddle bone,” and even cuttlebone.

@13:28, Would it help to also put epoxy on the underside of the stone/metal joint too ?
I understamd the practicality of wiring it up, but could you explain what you mean by doing so because they coincide? Not sure what that means.
since there are no internal stops, the previously created lines allow the two parts to fit together quite precisely.

lo que uso en este video es un hueso de sepia.
4:03 you are giving me anxiety with cutting so close to your fingers!
So why was the cuttlebone necesary?
Sir CoCoNUT It wasn’t. There are many ways to get a far better cast than this, and do so without needlessly taking life from something.
thank you
Bravo! and Happy New Year!
grazie e ricambio gli auguri Happy New Year to you
Hi there. Good work you make. I want to know how long to make a silver ring?
Depending on the type of ring, it can be used from a few hours to whole days.
That's a lot of work to make a ring and then use a stone which doesn't appear to be real turquoise. I could be wrong. If so, where is the turquoise from? It just doesn't look right to me.
