There are lots of reasons to use the terminal. E.g. Better keyboard usability, I generally prefer a keyboard over mouse because it is much faster if you are used to it. You don't have to view at the screen before you can add more input, you simply work in your mirrored representation of the data in your mind. With a mouse you always have to wait until stuff appears, before you can do a click. In a shell I can write commands while a program is running and they are executed when the current programs is finished. Terminal programs also tend to be more modular, e.g. put ls | grep | some script which processes files. They also tend to be easier customizeable/hackable via configuration/source, less bloated, better engineered, it just fits more in the whole concept. Just look at the messy web or windows, where every program has its own title bar

hey man I'm trying to figure out how to change the syntax highlighting theme in ranger. I found two lines in scope.sh, ranger uses highlight or pygmentize but I can't figure out how to tell them to use a custom style/theme. Any idea how to do this?
Not sure if you had already figured this out and I know this comment is 3 months later but you will want to go into .config/ranger/rc.conf and look for where it says "what viewmode should be used" and un-comment the line that says "set viewmode miller". Multipane is the mode without the borders and Miller is the one that has borders. Once you save and restart Ranger, you'll have the view that looks like his.

The tool you are presenting there looks like a "poor man's Midnight Commander" to me. Still I suppose it's a step up from doing everything from the command line with cd, ls, mv, cp etc.
Awesome stuff man. I am a recent subscriber and I love your tutorials. I am currently using Ubuntu 16.04 and running ranger on gnome-terminal. That's not how dd works. The files are only removed from their original location once you paste them somewhere else.
