LOL! At that speed, it should be called The Gladiators‘ Galop! I just love the whistles and percussions. You cannot hear that particular arrangement and not smile!
And that is what happened originally when Fucik had his "Gladiators" piece around ~110 bpm average in the late 19th century. But a few years later, Laurendeau rearranged it as "Thunder & Blazes" & hiked up the tempo a tiny bit more. Over these past hundred years it got played at & associated with as circus/carnival music, something we still remember it as today, perhaps to the chagrin of the original composer Fucik. 10/31/24
That this was meant to be a Soldier's March is wild to me, I can hear the idea behind it but it's so ingrained in my head of being linked to the circus that I can't imagine anything else.
Disappointing performance. Venue not good or recording - lack of separation of voices. Dynamics almost absent. And what the hell happened to the snare and bass drums? come on guys, you can do much better!!!! I steadfastly remain your fan! But I spent too much time as a bandsman - - - -

The second part of the song is beautiful and fits the soldier theme pretty well imo
Blame Carl Fischer and Louis-Phillippe Laurendeau. Julius Fucik actually composed this song as a military march.
The idea that one guy accidentally completely changed a dignified composer's legacy with an odd transcription is incredibly funny.
What's a Circus? Ratchet (to put up the tent) , whistle (ringmaster), slide whistle and car horns (clowns).
Fun performance!
