    The springiness of the tonearm is because the microswitches which turn the motor on when you move the tonearm away from the rest and then off when it reaches the end of the record are too stiff, and are fighting against the movement of the tonearm. You should alert Crosley to this problem, so hopefully they can fix it in future production runs by substituting switches that aren't as stiff.

      Yes, regardless of whether or not it has anti-skate, the arm should never be fighting you like that when it’s resting on the cue lift. That will definitely cause a lot excessive uneven groove wear.

    I have a 1974 “Dual” 1226 idler-drive turntable, built in the Black Forest of Germany, this thing is my prized possession.
    It still has its original super heavy brown tinted acrylic dust cover and original cartridge. I even have the Original Sears branded receiver that my Aunt and Uncle purchased with it.
    In 46 years not one thing has gone wrong with it or the receiver, never had to go in for servicing of any kind - the sound is clean, clear and really crisp, with the volume literally on 1, music fills the house. They just don’t make them like that anymore.

    • @coolelectronics1759
      @coolelectronics1759 3 года назад +1

      what brand is the receiver?
      I started out with a dual 1019 in fall of 2017 that I restored and later that same fall picked up an onkyo tx860 bundled with infinity tower speakers all free btw. I kinda miss that table and that setup but I now have a 1984 realistic linear tracking table that I restored summer of 2019 and klipsch speakers, sony sub, klh center all connected to a yamaha 5.1 receiver from about 2014 and a sony bravia 40inch television.

    I just purchased this after watching this review. I couldn’t get the platter drive motor to engage. And the power knob was clearly damaged and wasn’t as nice and crisp as the tuner knob when pressed in. It was mushy feeling. So I returned it, clearly just a bad unit. Second one came super stoked to finally listen to my records. Once again I couldn’t for the life of me get the platter motor to engage when pressing the phono button. I’ve come to the realization that I must be the problem and have given up on my dreams of being a vinyl connoisseur. Thanks though for the great and informative video🤙🏻

    The pitch control is a necessity for serious 78 collectors, as many pre 1925 records were recorded at various speeds.

    When it comes to more "entry level" and all-in-one turntables, Crosley has made some serious improvements. I now expect any Crosley product you review to be passable at the very least (well, most of the time)! I'd still go for the Audio Technica LP-60 if I were in the market for something easy to use and inexpensive, but I think Crosley would serve that market just as well.

    That's a nice little unit and one of the better Crosley units I've seen besides their higher end re-badged tables. The one thing that would have been nice is spring clip connectors for the speakers instead of those jacks just in a person wanted to experiment with using different speakers.

    A very good record player from Crosley, I'm well impressed. I like the look of it and it's great to see they've finally built a system with a full album size platter. The tonearm seemed a little springy, but apart from that tiny little issue this is a pretty darn good player. Well done to Crosley.

  • @7JANEWAY
    @7JANEWAY 3 года назад +6

    I can’t think of another player that has a dust cover that’s open at the front!
    It’s not surprising that you had to slow down the speed. It’s typical for these (for lack of a better term) all in ones to rotate slightly fast. At least with this one they let you adjust the pitch.
    Now I’m going to watch Techmoan play a chocolate record (though I doubt he’s using one of these)........

  • @xaenon

    I'm tryin' real hard to not like this unit. But it's resisting all my efforts. It's... actually pretty darned good. Two way speakers, decent power output, decent(ish) tone arm, 3 speeds, FM, Bluetooth, aux-in, line-out, headphone jack.... The only other things I could think of to add to it are a tone control of some kind and a proper anti-skate..... but strictly speaking, I don't think they're necessary (a lot of equipment lacks any sort of tone control today, and anti-skate is actually more of a last-nth-degree setting anyway; most record players live happily without it).
    Better bass could be achieved with larger speakers, but in this price range what you get with this is completely normal and adequate.
    I'm not gonna BS anyone. It's not a 'high end' unit... but then, it's not supposed to be. If you want high-end, you're gonna have to open your wallet a lot wider, simple as that. But it IS a lot of bang for the buck. I see this as a go-to for someone who's decided to migrate up from a Cruiser or Dansette but isn't ready to go full-bore into a component system.
    Someone at Crosley is payin' attention. You could do a lot worse than this. A *LOT* worse.

  • @nickbitten6037

    Interesting little unit there and might suit a youngster or for a room with limited space. The tonearm does seem a bit wayward and reluctant to stop the platter when returned to the rest. But, seems a lot better bet than the suitcase items.

  • @radio1342
    @radio1342 3 года назад +2

    I like it, looks good but I don't like the fact that the tone arm is trying to move on you and that the pitch control isn't correct at zero. But it looks to be a nice system, Crosley have gotten better at making tables over the last couple of years.

    Thank you so much for the helpful review! Your little bits of instruction/explanation were great from my perspective! I am new to vinyl and strongly considering this set up. I don't need anything fancy and was looking for mid range quality and price. I was wondering if you know if it would be possible to attach a bluetooth transmitter to the turntable to use with wireless speakers as well? If so, is there a bluetooth transmitter you would recommend? Is the lack of anti-skate a big enough problem that I should not purchase it? It checks all of my other boxes, but I wasn't sure if this should be a deal breaker... thanks again!

    • @rich_edwards79
      @rich_edwards79 3 года назад +1

      Agreed. Ditto a Seventies-style 'music centre' with side-by-side turntable and cassette / 8-track deck. I'm guessing it's mainly because the vintage systems were so well-made, are generally simple to repair if needed, and still reasonably plentiful and reasonably priced (here in the UK you can still barely give them away, though that's beginning to change), that most people who are in the market for one prefer to go with a used original system than buy new.
      Ok, so you don't get Bluetooth, but that's easily rectified if you have an AUX IN (or the ability to add one by tapping into the amplifier stage).
      One of the things I love most about those old systems is the lovely deep, warm tone they all seem to have. Even the transistorised ones. Would they be able to reproduce that with modern electronics? And if they could, would buyers go for it? (I also love the comfortable, couch-on-wheels floaty feeling of Seventies and Eighties cars, but the fact that BMW and Audi are now so popular and 'luxury' is defined as a sporty, firm ride rather than a relaxing one suggests I'm in the minority).

I'm not really a fan of how it looks, but the materials they chose are quite cool.

      That would be down to Audio-Technica since they manufacture the AT3600L, and while there are standard groove versions of said cartridge, those are mostly unofficial from chinese companies. If AT makes a replacement stylus for said cartridge, others would follow. However, there's already a standard groove replacement stylus for their VM-95 cartridge series, though.

    I had a suitcase one by Crosley but sold it and all the records I had because I kept hearing Audiophiles say how horrible it was even though I thought it sounded fine, but was so embarrassed to own one because of them that I gave up on records because I am on a budget and cannot afford 1000 dollar equipment, I am more into CD's anyways but might one day get an all in one and try records again, wish I would have seen your videos before I sold my cruiser and records. You say audiophiles worry about the sound quality turning people off for records I worry audiophiles do that even though most of what they claim to hear is all in their heads science has proven that and it is why I stick with a decent Sony boombox and it sounds perfect to me.

    • @djijspeakerguy4628
      @djijspeakerguy4628 10 месяцев назад

      And the audiophiles’ claims that the briefcase style units destroy records are also completely false. If anything, the Crosley isn’t turning people away from vinyl, in fact, it’s the reason why records are available everywhere in all the stores. It’s really the audiophiles that are turning people away from the hobby, even if they’re not trying to do that. In fact, within the past months, they’ve changed the internals of the cruiser model, implementing better speakers. Back in the day, they might’ve had bad sound, but now they’re actually okay.

    ok i bought one(Just got it today as i writing this)
    a couple of notes.
    build quality seem ok not so plastics, as so much of the other china crap out there.
    I like the design, look like something taken right out of the seventies.
    turn table run a little to fast. need to be adjusted down.
    sound quality, it does not sound bad, you can hear that the sound is clean, but the big problem is no bass what so ever. best way to describe it, is like you have a 3 ways speaker there is missing the bass unit.
    I will buy some other speakers, but I am little scare here, if a new set speakers will blow the amplifier. but I have to take that chance, I can't live with that tiny sound.
    turntable motor is a little noisy. its ok I don't hear it when the music plays.
    the arm also have the same problems as showing in the video, but not to the same degree.
