Hi Tim, here is some Christmas cheer....A1 Wentbridge Viaduct and Wentedge Road Bridge... Lifting of roadworks between November and January We'll be lifting the contraflow arrangement currently on the A1 between Barnsdale Bar and Ferrybridge between November and January. This aims to reduce congestion in the run-up to the festive period and into the New Year. From 16 November, there will be two lanes running northbound between Barnsdale Bar and Ferrybridge. I've only been class 1 for a couple of months now and we do a fair amount of loads for west country concrete, I bloody hate driving down there. And was only thinking today f* this in the summer 😂
That home made accelerator on the tractor reminded me of the time quite a few years ago my throttle cable snapped on my Scania 145 as I turned on to the M1 Staples Corner. At 4am I knew no fitter or help would come to me until about 07:30 that morning. Engine running ok but cable broken what can I do, I knew my company had an account with Scania at South Mimms so that where I need to try and get to. I took my shoe laces out of my trainers and tied them together and tied one end to the diesel injector pump throttle arm and routed the rest under the cab and up to my drivers window. Now I had a hand pull throttle that worked. It was tricky steering, changing gear and pulling the throttle with one hand out the window but I got there bought a new cable and off I went.
Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, asked his shoemaker to modify the Hessian boot to be more comfortable and practical for British soldiers. The changes included removing the tassel and using softer calfskin leather. After the Duke's victory at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, the boots became popular and were named after him. The Duke's status as a war hero led other gentlemen to want to emulate his style. Origin of the wellington boot for ya.
