I imagine Toby wrote the song but then when he tested it in-game thought it was too fast and intense and that it would ultimately distract the player from the main experience. So he slowed it down so that players could digest the scene more comfortably as well as enjoy the song. I have to admit, I prefer this slower pitch-altered version as opposed to the OST version as it just makes it seem more nostalgic and emotional.
From what I’ve heard, Toby is aggressively anti spoilers (ex: the abc123 audio file) so most of the tracks in game have a .9 speed multiplier on them when they actually play in game. Most people rip the audio from directly from the source files or soundtracks, so they feel slightly sped up.
+Asriel Dreemurr X I think this version sounds happier, while still portraying the feeling of the scene perfectly, SAVEing the only and best friends you've ever had, reliving their fights, getting their memories back and reflecting on how much they love you and you love them.
Is it just me, or does altering the pitch only a little bit have a completely different effect on your emotions? Like, this one, I feel all sentimental like I'm back sobbing my eyes out at the Asriel battle, but the OST version makes me feel excited and motivated. Weird.
Certain tones in music DO evoke certain emotions. Minor chords are used to evoke sadness, nostalgia, loneliness, love, longing, etc. While major chords are used to make you feel joy, uplifted, energized, eager, etc. Chord progression (how they flow into one another, alternating or all staying one way or the other, etc) also combines & directs these emotional effects. There's a whole psychological science behind the way music is composed. & what happens here, is that the chords are different between both versions (they're in two different "keys"). So, they both stimulate different parts of your brain, thus pull your emotions different ways. :)
I understand why some people like it being this way (this being the way it is in game) but in my opinion, it doesn't matter. I think we can all agree that it's an amazing song either way.
+MrBobman878 Toby Fox loves budgeting his soundtrack, which, given that he produced basically 90% of the game AT MINIMUM, is perfectly logical. A lot of his leitmotifs are present in his other non-Undertale works (most of them originated there In fact - see Patient (Homestuck) and Noisemaster (Cucumber Quest) ) Toriel, as well as Undyne and Mettaton, have the most recycled themes ever, what with reusing a lot of the leitmotifs of previous maps and having pitched-up and down versions of their own songs to fit the mood as needed. Doesn't mean the guy is bad for doing it; it's perfectly valid to do what he did. But I'd treat the OST as the untainted original versions of the songs he has programmed in his game to have their pitch altered as needed.
He actually did; try replacing some of the songs in the OST with other ones and see how everything is scripted to alter its pitch when a particular song plays at which instance of an event.
+John Titor I think I understand why he did, which is to have a version unique to the game itself, because he did anticipate people listening to the soundtrack after playing. Some tracks, from games I like, I listen to so much to the point where I don't even associate them with the game anymore. Smart move, IMO
fatputtycat It's the context that matters. If there's some sort of unique change in the track's character that plays in a certain situation, odds are, you're going to differentiate it from it's slightly different counter-part.
“But, maybe, with what little power you have, you can SAVE something else...” God I love this game. The way you bond with these characters - Undyne, Alphys, Asgore, Toriel, Sans, Papyrus - it’s unlike anything I’ve ever felt from “just a game”. What a masterpiece. What an experience. I’m genuinely sad that I will never play this game for the first time again.
You can unlock a secret ending by having a Franklin badge equipped, which will cause Asriel’s final attack to be shot back into his face, causing him to die after a short cutscene.
i really love these because it shows that playing a song in a different key and speed can completely change the feel, emotion and mental association with the song. i just find all that really fascinating
It's not really faster and higher, it's just slowed down in-game to either 0.9x or 0.8x speed to match the notes of Hopes & Dreams, I forget which exactly. It's one of Toby's anti-spoiler measures.
i mean.. this makes sense, anyway playing the game or not the musics still have their epicness- even tho i've listened to Hopes and dreams and Save the world already multiple times in the OST i still felt like it was the first time hearing

This is one of the greatest games EVER made and nothing can change my mind. This game was what motivated me to keep going. This game is more than a game. It's a story. And an incredible one at that. I will always keep this game close to my heart. I got it around 4 months after it came out and loved the crap out of it and kept active in the fandom until 2017. Then I started losing interest. I came back to it last week and it felt SO GOOD reliving this game. I thank UNDERTALE for the incredible experiences unrivaled feels and legendary characters it created.
Thanks for giving us the TRUE versions of these songs, man. I felt like some of the (more) memorable tracks seemed off between what I heard ingame and the OST released.....so big thank you to you, for actually "correcting" the tunes to what you hear ingame.

Here is my take on both versions of this song: OST version feels much more happy because to me it feels as if every monsters souls are saying "there is hope." Game version feels more heart pounding which could symbolize to what you, the player, would hear SAVING all of the monsters' souls. TL;DR: OST is what the monsters hear, Game is what you hear.

Perhaps she really managed to get the IBN5100 and changed the timeline from where SERN succeds in creating a dystopia To a free world again. Its the celebration song. A victory only comes close to resistance defeating the combine empire in earth in half life 2. She might be still alive today. Going to 1973 by a time machine in a mission to recover IBN5100 at the age it seemed 18, will be 50 years old in today's date in this timeline. I am happy that i managed to see history change. I have spent the last several hours trying to encrypt part of a database for our group project in Software Dev. I remember that when I was watching a gameplay of this boss then this song played then I checked out the OST version of this song I thought it was a auditory illusion due to hearing Hopes and Dreams for 3 or 4 times then my brain thought that the pitch was the same as the pitch from Hopes and Dreams and the OST version was the actual one (this hapenned to me with His theme too)
Thank goodness I found a video of this version of the BGM! I could not understand how all the OST versions of Save the World sounded a pitch higher. It just didn't sound right to me. Never realized that was how it was originally made and was edited to what it was later. Interesting to know! Thank you for making the version that was heard in game!

Death by Glamour seems to only change pitch if you die. Jacksepticeye, when he played it, died a few times. During his first fight, the song played at the same pitch as the soundtrack, but after he died the first time, it changed to a different pitch the rest of the times.

yeah the song files inside the game sound the same as the ost. but some have a way different pitch in-game. my best guess is they're saved at a faster play rate to save space then played at the intended speed inside the game. even some that aren't on the ost are pitch shifted or sped up/slowed down.

I imagine Toby wrote the song but then when he tested it in-game thought it was too fast and intense and that it would ultimately distract the player from the main experience. So he slowed it down so that players could digest the scene more comfortably as well as enjoy the song.
I have to admit, I prefer this slower pitch-altered version as opposed to the OST version as it just makes it seem more nostalgic and emotional.
From what I’ve heard, Toby is aggressively anti spoilers (ex: the abc123 audio file) so most of the tracks in game have a .9 speed multiplier on them when they actually play in game. Most people rip the audio from directly from the source files or soundtracks, so they feel slightly sped up.

Is it just me, or does altering the pitch only a little bit have a completely different effect on your emotions? Like, this one, I feel all sentimental like I'm back sobbing my eyes out at the Asriel battle, but the OST version makes me feel excited and motivated. Weird.

Certain tones in music DO evoke certain emotions. Minor chords are used to evoke sadness, nostalgia, loneliness, love, longing, etc. While major chords are used to make you feel joy, uplifted, energized, eager, etc. Chord progression (how they flow into one another, alternating or all staying one way or the other, etc) also combines & directs these emotional effects. There's a whole psychological science behind the way music is composed. & what happens here, is that the chords are different between both versions (they're in two different "keys"). So, they both stimulate different parts of your brain, thus pull your emotions different ways. :)
I understand why some people like it being this way (this being the way it is in game) but in my opinion, it doesn't matter. I think we can all agree that it's an amazing song either way.

Toby Fox loves budgeting his soundtrack, which, given that he produced basically 90% of the game AT MINIMUM, is perfectly logical. A lot of his leitmotifs are present in his other non-Undertale works (most of them originated there In fact - see Patient (Homestuck) and Noisemaster (Cucumber Quest) )
Toriel, as well as Undyne and Mettaton, have the most recycled themes ever, what with reusing a lot of the leitmotifs of previous maps and having pitched-up and down versions of their own songs to fit the mood as needed.
Doesn't mean the guy is bad for doing it; it's perfectly valid to do what he did. But I'd treat the OST as the untainted original versions of the songs he has programmed in his game to have their pitch altered as needed.

He actually did; try replacing some of the songs in the OST with other ones and see how everything is scripted to alter its pitch when a particular song plays at which instance of an event.

Some tracks, from games I like, I listen to so much to the point where I don't even associate them with the game anymore. Smart move, IMO

The way you bond with these characters - Undyne, Alphys, Asgore, Toriel, Sans, Papyrus - it’s unlike anything I’ve ever felt from “just a game”. What a masterpiece. What an experience. I’m genuinely sad that I will never play this game for the first time again.
You can unlock a secret ending by having a Franklin badge equipped, which will cause Asriel’s final attack to be shot back into his face, causing him to die after a short cutscene.

This is one of the greatest games EVER made and nothing can change my mind. This game was what motivated me to keep going. This game is more than a game. It's a story. And an incredible one at that. I will always keep this game close to my heart. I got it around 4 months after it came out and loved the crap out of it and kept active in the fandom until 2017. Then I started losing interest. I came back to it last week and it felt SO GOOD reliving this game. I thank UNDERTALE for the incredible experiences unrivaled feels and legendary characters it created.
Thanks for giving us the TRUE versions of these songs, man. I felt like some of the (more) memorable tracks seemed off between what I heard ingame and the OST released.....so big thank you to you, for actually "correcting" the tunes to what you hear ingame.

Here is my take on both versions of this song:
OST version feels much more happy because to me it feels as if every monsters souls are saying "there is hope."
Game version feels more heart pounding which could symbolize to what you, the player, would hear SAVING all of the monsters' souls.

To a free world again. Its the celebration song. A victory only comes close to resistance defeating the combine empire in earth in half life 2. She might be still alive today. Going to 1973 by a time machine in a mission to recover IBN5100 at the age it seemed 18, will be 50 years old in today's date in this timeline. I am happy that i managed to see history change.

There's a youtube to mp3 converter that works great for replacing undertale songs that have altered pitch.
I'd just take the official song, drop the pitch by a semitone or two in audacity, and save a copy of that. I did it with some of the other tracks
@@Inventure751 it's more than just pitch correction, it's tempo too. All of the songs in undertale are played at 90% speed, which is why the album sounds different.

I remember that when I was watching a gameplay of this boss then this song played then I checked out the OST version of this song I thought it was a auditory illusion due to hearing Hopes and Dreams for 3 or 4 times then my brain thought that the pitch was the same as the pitch from Hopes and Dreams and the OST version was the actual one (this hapenned to me with His theme too)
Thank goodness I found a video of this version of the BGM! I could not understand how all the OST versions of Save the World sounded a pitch higher. It just didn't sound right to me.

Kira Masaru i believe bergentrucking is slightly different, but apparently the pitched-up hopes and dreams found in the game's files isn't the one used in-game

Death by Glamour seems to only change pitch if you die. Jacksepticeye, when he played it, died a few times. During his first fight, the song played at the same pitch as the soundtrack, but after he died the first time, it changed to a different pitch the rest of the times.

yeah the song files inside the game sound the same as the ost. but some have a way different pitch in-game. my best guess is they're saved at a faster play rate to save space then played at the intended speed inside the game. even some that aren't on the ost are pitch shifted or sped up/slowed down.
