Those two camera shots starting at 30:58 are amazing. The way it pans from the crowd standing up to the two cars cresting the hill, and the cloud of dust illuminated by the setting sun in the next shot... perfection.
Not just the best V8SC race ever, not just the best Bathurst ever but the GREATEST motorsport race EVER. Fullstop. SVG starting on pole with McLaughlin behind him - both went to to dominate the next decade between them racing for the homologation teams.. Whincup started on the second last row with Chaz right at the back behind him.. in the decade that follows Chaz does the total opposite race - races for Holden from pole to chequered flag total domination and Whincup never wins Bathurst again... Hello Darkness.. It was the mighty Falcon's last win on the mountain too...
I dont think he threw it either, he raced hard as a racer should. He took a gamble and it didnt pay off. Drivers now arent willing to take risks like this which results in boring races.
@@lachlanharper8793 I don't believe they were wrong per se. They gambled. When they knew that they needed to conserve and let the driver know, he absolutely kept sending it and drove away from the field. He could have stacked everybody up over the hill and nobody would have passed him - we've seen how difficult it is to pass many times before. I believe his ego got to him
As apposed to today you cant buy the bathurst mag at a news agency really just a nother nail in the coffin for our car racing well done hands off lineing your pockets.
That was last year mate, this year is far better, so far we have 7 Ford wins and 12 Chevrolet wins, compare that to 2023 and that's a big difference, this time last year it was 2 Ford wins (1 by penalty) and 21 Chevrolet wins, that's a sad difference.
THAT WAS REAL PARITY, though ironically, Whincup on a bender, proved that he and the mighty HoldOn were faster/superior by winning the battle and forgetting the war, hahahahaha !!
Absolutely spot on. It wasn't Frosty that made a mistake , it was Lowndesy who screwed up . At the end of the day one had to feel for Giz . As for Wincup , go ask poor ol Dumbrell what he thinks !

I remember watching this live. Classic. Probably my favourite era of racing ever with the car and driver line up.
The camo job on the 888 cars was amazing,i didn't even see them on the podium, great work paint guys
I've never watched Supercars before. It's insane and I love it.

Wow, just wow - the history you encapsulated in that comment
Came here after the 2024 race to remind me of what Bathurst used to be like.
SVG crossing over to NASCAR took me down the Supercar rabbit hole. Superb racing
Jamie threw this race so hard. What a classic though, crazy to think it's already been 10 years!
He didn't throw it, his pit got the calculations wrong on fuel

This is still more exciting than any races in 2024 season
Sadly yes! So far, not impressed with gen 3.
What a track!
Ahh the good old days!
I’m an Aussie, but believe me when this happened to SVG mate I cried for him, Bathurst can be so cruel……
That's unbelievable that was amazing
Crazy to think it’s been 10 years since one of the greatest 1000 we’ve ever seen
this was SVG's race to lose until heartbreak
And once again it's BROCKTOBER!
Break my heart one more time.
This was Gizzy's race, then the car said nah. F-U clutch!
The clutch was fine. It was just the starter motor that failed
Surely the best Bathurst
Crazy end to the race
Awesome

Those cars are extremely hard to drive on the limit.
Better than the Camaro Cup
You do realise Chevy’s only won 2 of the last 7 races, right?

Still as insane as the day i saw it.
that was so good to watch - "karma" -
6:15 Even Rihana was almost crying. This race is a love/ hate relationship.
Greatest great race in modern history, but it was Giz's race to lose.
YAY it’s HAPPY BATHURST DAY THIS WEEKEND 13/10/24 👍👍👍👍👍👍🥰😍🥰
Jamie Running ou of fuel was excellent
"Caltex: Doesn't go far enough"
Congrats to Jamie Whincup on winning the Bathurst 998!
????
@andywilliams298 2kms too short
There will be none of this, this year.. The 80kmh speed limit sucks
Jamie Whincup on this day 🤝 Lando Norris 🤝 Ferrari strategy
He didn't mean to make contact, he didn't mean to make contact, he didn't mean to to it, but he did it, LOL far cough Skaife.
FTR, JW did hear the pit, 888 miscalculated the fuel burn and Jamie thought he could get it home.⛽🏁
Nice lies
Agreed . B/S !!!! He had heaps of time time to conserve , typical Wincup , screwing over his co driver Dumbrell again and again.
THAT WAS REAL PARITY, though ironically, Whincup on a bender, proved that he and the mighty HoldOn were faster/superior by winning the battle and forgetting the war, hahahahaha !!
Couldn't they just bump started the csr that stalled in the pits??
GasssspoooolllL
10 years on and the commentators still talk over the team radio.
I cannot stand Mark Skaife and his commentary.

Your spot on he is so far Holden leaning it's not funny
Skaife doesn’t like you either
What a laugh that Paul morris is a Bathurst winner. Was last his whole stint and puts it in the fence dead set
Most boring race ever. Bring back showroom cars.
And from this moment on supercars went backwards 🎪🤡👎🏽
Compton needs to go, sounds like Ned Flanders
