The Government of India's Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is poised to adopt new technologies to replace the existing toll collection method facilitated by FASTag. In an upcoming initiative starting from March 2024, the government is exploring the implementation of GPS-based toll collection systems, utilising either GPS technology or Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. Pilot tests for these technologies have already been conducted.
