This is a wonderful idea - a fully restored "Let It Be" film with the compete rooftop show as a bonus feature. Two things that Beatle fans have been requesting for years and would be sure to buy in droves. Unfortunately, this is also a perfect example of the type of fan-conscious package which Apple could easily put together but never delivers. I would love to see Rhino get a shot at handling some of the archive releases.

I’ve never listened to the original Let it Be movie before because I am from the DVD era so this news makes me very very, very excited and I hope that this time we don’t get let down again and that they are honest when they say that they are going to release it on Blu-ray

As Let It Be was originally a cinematic release in 1970, why didn't Apple do the same thing, with the cleaned up version, followed by a promised dvd etc release near to Christmass? Come on Apple?

I like how The Beatles choose their timings with expectant fans. Beatles fans are easy to tease. The news is less a restored 'Let It Be' on DVD and more 'Let it Be' streaming on Disney, which means that 'Let it Be' will be on DVD and Blu ray, but near Christmas. The thing I'd like is for the film to be seen in cinemas....

It does look like the Let It Be film may finally be getting released. But how? The Disney+ logo may mean it's going to stream first and then (maybe??) get a physical release. We all remember how the Get Back DVD/Blu-ray release went down. It seemed Disney barely wanted to release the thing. I hope it goes better this time around.

A few years ago, they gave a similar clue for The Beatles Number1s + prerelease on Blu-ray/DVD. It seems likely the film Let It Be will finally get a proper release on home video.

Im not sure about the copyright laws Mike. Maybe if this new version has extra material then it needs a new copyright. Yes I remember the shambles with Get Back and hopefully that wont happen again. Im expecting streaming and physical media.

I can't think what else it could be, unless it's the "Get Back 2" with all the extra hours Peter Jackson has prepared.
It would be nice to have cleaned up "1970" as a companion piece to go alongside Get Back.
Like almost everyone else, I've had to make do with a worn out VHS copy and whatever low grade "B-Roll" footage that would occasionally turn up on youtube.
I can't help but feel it a little redundant if they are just going to release "1970" on it's own as this is as we know one of the few projects where they truly are spoilt for choice when it comes to the extras/bonus material.

Yes the Get Back 2 theory crossed my mind as well but that probably doesnt justify the ‘at last’ tag. Ive still got the vhs recorded from the tv but nothing to play it on. We’ll have to wait to see what they have planned for the bundle but like you i agree they shoukdnt be short of extras

To hell with Disney Plus. I still have my original VHS of Let It Be and a couple of really excellent European bootleg DVDs of the 1970 film. I was overwhelmed by Get Back, it was awesome, but underwhelmed with the re-issued Let It Be box set. I am not looking forward to Disney's involvement with the 1970 film, it seems like everything they touch lately goes bad.

A Beatles documentary that lay hidden for more than 50 years will be released on Disney+ next month. Let It Be, which has been unavailable for public consumption for several decades, will be broadcast for the first time on 8 May on the streaming platform.

Yeah I think the anniversary is early May? So they'll probably announce tomorrow or Wednesday with a trailer that the original Let it Be film has been restored and will be on Disney+ in early May! Pretty cool. Kind of like getting the "bonus tracks" now after the huge Get Back series.

Let's hope it is released on physical media!!! I think Jackson said that he purposely did not use any shot that was in Let It Be for his Get Back. He used different angles etc. It has been many many years since I have seen Let It Be. I remember it being a bit dour, but cannot really remember. I hope they don't leave us hanging too long!! Need the details!

Most of "Let it Be" was released on Peter Jackson's "Get Back", wasn't it ? I want the 1965 Shea Stadium concert on BluRay.
Actually no. Hardly any of Let it Be appeared in Get Back. Peter Jackson deliberately didnt use the exact footage from Let it Be . Some scenes were used in Get Back but from different cameras so they dont look the same

Absolutely agree it's about the Let It Be film. My only question is are they teasing a physical release (I hope so!) or will it just be an announcement that it is going to be available for streaming? The Disney+ logo is the monkey wrench for me. Perhaps an exclusive streaming window preceding a release. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

It’s not really a surprise. A year and a half ago at an event at The Paley Center with Michael Lindsay-Hogg, a representative from Apple, who was on the panel, informed the audience that they were already deep into the restoration of the Let It Be film. However, I doubt that a Blu-ray will be immediately forthcoming. More likely it will appear first on Disney+.

I ended my comment on your Help box video saying I won’t be holding my breath for a Let It Be Blu-ray. Oops. Actually if Disney is involved let’s hope we don’t have to get on our knees and beg them for a physical release with (pretty please) extras. I won’t be signing up for Disney again. If there is no physical release I’ll just have to be content with my Nth generation copy on vhs. 😅

We said we would make it available didn’t we? We never said anything about no blu ray, now watch it or don’t, but it’s out there at last, now leave us alone!”

But as to when has Apple missed an opportunity to fleece us, they have proven time and again that they don’t mind leaving money on the table (see for instance the lack of Shea on blu ray, a rubber soul box, a repress of the mono box, a reissue of the xmas fan club lp among others) on one hand I admire their restraint in that they aren’t like the Who, constantly issuing endless compilations, but on the other hand, they do miss on some obvious stuff. But I guess I’ll remain hopeful, acknowledging the existence of theoriginal Let it be is a start…
Btw, just goes to show you can never predict what Apple will do: 2024 the 60th anniversary of Beatlemania in the U.S. the smart money would have been on maybe a First U.S. visit reissue or maybe a Hard Days Night deluxe edition… instead they mark the 54th anniversary of Let it Be….three years after the release of Get Back…
@@joedee9811 They are always throwing curved balls. But all those things have been issued (ie the opportunity to fleece us) apart from the Rubber soul box which will surely come this year . I must admit I never thought they would celebrate the 60th anniversary of the US landing because they will want something that has global appeal. As important as it was to both the beatles success and personally to Americans ,for the rest of the world its not that important

@@arminzink1925 ahh but there are some things in Lib that aren't in Get Back, at least 4 complete song performances recorded on 31st January 1969 the day after the rooftop. Many complete performances where get Back just shows a snippet and a far less interrupted rooftop concert.
I am sure that is what this is due to the clues provided, hope some sort of deluxe ala Help! or MMT is available, we have waited a long time for this.

It's definitely the original "Let It Be" film. But, I think it will only be on Disney+ to stream. At least at first. But, this is good news. The "Let It Be" film has songs not on the "Get Back" documentary. Plus fuller, or even full versions of other songs. Especially the three songs from Jan. 31st, 1969.

If it includes a complete, clean roof-top performance with no interruptions from random people in the street and every moment of the performance, I will consider buying it. Otherwise, no sale. Saw it once, 20 or so years ago, that was enough. If you've got Peter Jackson, why do you need this?

Good news.I hope it comes with lots of extras. If just Let it Be, I’ll buy it just to have but Get Back is so much better and gets a better inside into how the Beatles worked. Let it Be is sad but Michael Lindsey Hogg it a great job recording it but failed in final edit. We owe much to him

Standard Beatle Fan Response #137: "I want all of it!"
Well LIB is certainly inferior to get Back but it contains some complete musical performances that were not in Get Back which makes it worthwhile for me
A bit anticlimactic, I think, after PeterJackson's Get Back. In years past I would've been thrilled at the news, but now? The thing that does interest me is the extras. The complete Rooftop Concert would be great, as well as the complete acoustic set they did the next day. If those are included my anticipation goes right back up to 11.
I guess we'll; have to wait until the official announcement but even the straight movie contains many complete musical performances that were not included in Get Back

It would have been nicer if it said Get Back, the additional footage release. I have a decent 35mm transfer on DVD of Let it Be so this don't really get me excited. If it was a DVD/Blu Ray audio in atmos, 5.1 surround & Hi-Res stereo of the album which they eliminated in their last 2 box sets.

Looking forward to seeing a nicely remastered version of the Let It Be movie -- which surely this is. But to be honest, Get Back is much better. I suspect we're all more interested in whatever "extras" get released with Let It Be, and knowing Disney those extras will be minimal or non-existent.

@beatleytonesbeatleschannel completely agree but with over 96 hours of footage there's going to be a lot that we won't (or won't want) to see. I was delighted to get the Get Back Blu-Ray box set, but even as a die-hard fan since 1963, I found it painful to watch at times.

I really hope the Disney connection does not come with handcuffs. While I do not have a problem with it being screened on whatever channel, I really do not want it being placed in limbo land like last time as far as a physical release is concerned.
There is so much that could be done with this material. The original Let It Be film, the extended cut, MLH and Peter Jackson commentaries, an uninterrupted rooftop performance, additional footage that Peter Jackson has mentioned. There is a goldmine here for fans and it really should appear while we are still around to enjoy it.

I don't have any problem with Disney itself but do not feel that the last co-product was the best thing for fans. I really do not think that you should have to subscribe to a channel in order to view something by your favourite band, even if you cynically only do so for a short period.
It may be that Peter Jackson managed to get more into the Get Back film than we may otherwise have had as a result of Disney but the physical release suffered I think.
Personally, I did not see Get Back until the blu-ray appeared which was very frustrating. Let It Be will be similar. It feels like I'm a second class fan now, having to wait for a possible release on disc.
I can't help but feel that there was a better way to do this. Surely The Beatles must have been in the driving seat when negotiating a contract.
Oh well. I'll sit here gritting my teeth again while some fans enjoy having a lot of fun discussing the release. I know that is my choice, but I do think you have to make a stand when these odd commercial relationships emerge.
Thanks for breaking the news though, even if it wasn't what I would have preferred.

@@davehealey2397 Glad you are enjoying the channel Dave. Whilst I agree with you about subscriptions in principle, this has really been the case ever since Satellite TV/Cable began. We pay for these things monthly and even the BBC in the UK is paid for by the punters. You know, for your favourite pop groups read your favourite tv shows - this is where we are now. Netflix. Amazon Prime whatever platform charges us to watch stuff and while I believe Apple would have been in the driving seat, they would have sought the best deal for the company and I cant really blame them for that as they are a business . I intend to subscribe to Disney for the month of May and then cancel at the end of the month just to tide me over. For £6 or whatever it is for 1 month, that seems a small price tp pay to get to see this early. Tp be fair the delay in the blu-ray release is no different to any other film that gets released . Theres always a 3 month exclusive licence to cinemas before it goes to TV or on sale to the public. Then home video first started it used to be a year so at lest that has improved

It offers the original film edit which features a lot of parts that didn’t make it to the released Get Back. Off the top of my head - the part where PM talks about the camera shot coming down from high up in the rafters and focusing right up on one of the band members faces. Across the Universe with the extra vocal bit in the chorus. Likely a bunch of other stuff too. I will wait for a physical media release though.

@beatleytonesbeatleschannel oh ok I was always led to believe that the let it be film was rather sad in showing basically the band breaking up in contrast to the get back film which shows the band working really well specially when they are in abbey road, like all beatles fans I'll prob watch it just wouldn't want it to spoil the happy experience of watching get back
@@paulmcloughlin9913 Yes I suppose LIB is a sad movie but I guess that is the way it was edited. having seen Get back whihc tells a truer story you can watch LIB knowing that it wasnt all miserable. There are some great musical performances by the band in LIB that aren't in Get Back
This is good news Beatley Tone but it makes me think how we all go mad for these original releases when the new updated versions come out but how many will actually buy it after buying or watching or downloading the 8 hour get back spectacular from Peter Jackson? I mean I just don't know, the general public won't give it much life so it's down to hardcore fans and impulse buys. And there's gotta be a lot of extras in this for me to buy it because of how superior the Get Back update is. Maybe the full rooftop concert as 1 file on the disc and I think there should be the full original 1970 let it be album in 24/96 and Dolby DTS master audio and straight PCM Stereo. What do you think? And what extras do you think there should be?
Well I agree that LIB is inferior to Get Back for sure Craig. However LIB does contain several complete musical performances that were not included in get Back, so for me that is enough to draw me in. But LIN remastered with various sound formats will also be a pull for many. But like you say, this is mainly going to appeal to hard core fans. thats ok, there are millions of us !! As for extras, some outtakes would be nice
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel absolutely tone there are millions of us and this is good news that they are fulfilling a promise for something to come down the line which aren't always kept and we should buy it as a loyalty as they gave us what we wanted in get back and it was us who asked for the original. I feel like if it doesn't do very well and at least make a small profit then we can't expect them to do stuff like this in the future when they are unsure if it will profit. But as the film is the original I do feel like the original album should be on the Blu-ray or DVD too. If they put the original album on in high quality and the Peter Jackson cut of the rooftop concert as an option on its own and outtakes as extras it'll be perfect

I always equated LET IT BE with Elvis Presley's 1977 TV special - in other words, both were a stain on the legacy of each artist, and would never see official release by those corporate giants that now hold the keys to their archives. The opportunity to release the 1970 Beatles film seemed to disappear once Peter Jackson got his hands on the footage and produced what has already become the greatest production of Beatles material ever seen on film. But now, there can be no doubt that LET IT BE looks slated for release which seems crazy whether GET BACK had been put together or not. Again, equating it to the 1977 Elvis Presley special; now that Lisa Marie Presley has passed on, does that mean that they will gather up all the existing footage and release an uber-long film about it telling fans that it was not as bad as it looked (except they can't do that, because it WAS as bad as it looked), and then release the TV Special as it was shown in the US in October 1977 (and in June 1978 in the UK)? LET IT BE was NOT the film that The Beatles wanted it to be...how on Earth can Sir Paul and Sir Ringo (not to mention Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison) sanction this? And what would the Blu-Ray have in the way of extras? Stuff from the GET BACK movie? That should have been on the GET BACK Blu-Ray! I'll say one thing for Disney+ (and companies owning The Beatles' rights in the past) - they know how to milk a cow. x
Im afraid I have never seen the Elvis film so Im really getting your analogy but the facts are with Let it Be that it was always planned to release the original film - it was part of the deal that was agreed at the time of Get Back - so its always been coming. Both films exist independently and compliment each other in many ways. there are complete performances in LIB that are not in Get Back so it is worth the entrance fee simply based on those. Get back has much more commentary and context but LIB is just the Beatles making music together and there is hardly any footage of them doing that in their career outside of this movie so I cant see why anyone wouldn't want to see that or have trouble sanctioning it

Still...has not Sir Paul McCartney spent the last 54+ years trying to redirect the perception of his own role in the project? Perhaps even down to the fact that GET BACK saw release before LET IT BE? I don't know the answers to these questions, I'm merely testing the theories behind them. McCartney's point of view might be: GET BACK - this is what actually happened during January 1969, and now watch LET IT BE with the Jackson film in the back of your mind. @@sbutler860 I dont know that he's spent very much time trying to change the perception of his role. He was not happy with the spectorisations on the album and who can blame him but I dont think this movie makes him look bad but one thing is for sure , without his energy neither the film nor the album would ever have got made. He loves let it Be and has played every song he had a hand in live pre songs than any other album in his entire catalogue so he cant hate it that much. I dont think there is much difference in the Beatles behaviour in either movie to be honest, its all fairly consistent Stephen

Well i guess everything has been out bootlegs but at least now we’ll get them with great sound quality. The great thing about it is the studio performances are so good with the new band. I hadnt a clue this was coming until the canadian universal leak
