My burnout manifested as a chronic illness. It’s been 7 years and I’ve been forced into slow living and radical self care. I’m finally recovering. But I can’t stop being mindful.
Same. Because I can only work part time, and have to, I live frugally and slow, and I try to lift it up by turning it into the "romanticizing life lifestyle". I see the beauty in the little things, I make art, make clothes, follow tutorials to fix stuff, I read tons of books others dont have time for and indulge in foods I make myself.
Same , I have CFS. I treated myself so horribly before I got ill 😢 in some ways it’s been a blessing, but I also had to spend a couple of years in bed away from my children. I hope my radical changes in behaviour and actions will leave them overall better off than the harm of the years being bedbound. Love to you and may you heal completely in time❤

I have felt like ' the walking dead / zombie for quite a while now. I have stopped using social media... for 2 days so far ( goal is 90 days ) I live in a small apartment / flat.. and there is a lot of noise around me, so that means I put on my headphones.. and then I tend to watch a lot of different things on youtube. Slowing myself down, reading books, cleaning up the clutter and mess.. are a few of my current goals. Having self compassion, patience is the mindset that I am working on. Thank you for such a beautyfull video and footage. It was so calming, relaxing and soothing listening and watching it.
I love your video. I am a teacher I have always taught in areas of high poverty and while I love what I do the last two years were terribly stressful. Teaching in the U.S. has become very bad. Teachers are not treated well. After last year's schoolyear I physically and mentally crashed. I stayed on my couch for over a month either sleeping or watching something on my computer. I showered everyday but that was about it. After a month or so I began to feel better. I was worried about the upcoming schoolyear. I began to take better care of myself. Staying away from processed food, eating more veggies, etc. I also take supplements from a functional doctor. I am close to Lake Michigan so when the weather is warmer I go to the beach. This always makes me feel better. I am in my '50s and finally realized that my soul needed to slow down. I am feeling better now. I do not worry about work as this is my last year teaching and am excited about what is around the corner. I am glad to hear you are feel better too.
I think it's great you talked about this. I had experienced burnout before and it was a strange feeling of helplessness. I specifically remember this one instance, looking at a pile of dishes in the kitchen sink thinking ''there's no point in washing any of these, they will just get dirty again anyway'' and couldn't then bring myself to clean them, I felt powerless and the simple task of washing dishes felt like something unachievable, like something too much. Taking a break in routine and any sort of work is very important. It can feel like a waste of time but it is not
I met the edge of my burnout last fall, physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted. I could feel the change in me, felt like I didn’t know who I was anymore and realizing that I knew that only I alone could change it. I will admit a year later now and still struggling as I have cared for my mom with Alzheimer’s for 5+ years, 24/7 with not a single day off. It seems like I’m always there for everyone but me, my adult kids, teen grandkids, family, friends, etc. My doctor recognized the change in a year and said you know you can’t pour from an empty cup. I so need and appreciate your video and encouragement to remind me that I need to continue to push forward. Thank you❤
I hope you find all the strength to live through it and take care of yourself! I relate to you a lot, though my experience is nowhere near as intense. But that desire to take care of everyone but yourself, giving your last to others, but forgetting to fill your own cup.. that’s very familiar! I find it rather sad that the rest of the family did not help with you mum ,adult kids, family and friends. Did they not realize the strewn that was being put on you. We should be able to say no to family who want to take advantage of us This does not include your MUM. We do not ask for sickness to be up on us.
Dear Daria, thank you so much for this inspiring video. I am in recovery from the burnout I had 4 years ago. I was working as a musical theater actress. Living my dream. But it turned into a nightmare. My burnout was linked to developing panic attacks and depression. I did not notice the warning signs in time and felt like I was trapped in my everyday life unable to change anything. And then my body took over, demanding the rest and distance it needed without my consent. That was a very scary experience but a needed one. The last four years have been challenging. I never fully gained back the energy I once had, but therefore I adapted mindfulness and tenderness towards my body, trying my best to give it the chance to heal and be heard. This is really strange.. the view from your window and your cozy home might be someone else's definition of happiness and can be all what someone else dreams of.. but even you (the person who already has it) can go through burnout moments where you stop seeing all the blessings you have in hand.. I guess happiness is in accepting exactly where you are in life and what you have in hand and being grateful for it.. truely.. if happiness isn't within, then there's no use looking for it somewhere else..

This is crazy because I recently burnt out in a cabin. I just moved to a cottage in the north of Sweden. Life hit me pretty hard. I used to live in Miami being around street violence, guns, death, and I even used to eat $3 a day, 25 cents noodles, expired toast and canned campbell tomato soup. I survived the Boston Marathon Bombing which was a few feet away and I saw all the blood the people screaming and I was alone at 18. I also used to live in a room with no kitchen, trash bag as a window and bugs crawling on me at night. I ended up moving states (from LA to Miami) and ended up working a job where I had to literally hope I don't get shot or robbed while working overnight near one of the most dangerous areas. So I ended up takin boxing to protect myself and learned how to defend against bigger threats. Now I live in a cabin in the north of Sweden where I run an online business, I go down to a lake to breathe and heal my past and I post on RUclips to help others who need it the most 💜

Thank you for the video. I hope you take care of yourself. 🤗 I don't think I had burn out before. I did lose my temper yesterday. (Strange, how some people can push at buttons without limits for weeks on end. And when they finally do get to see the temper they had been trying to dig up, they don't like it at all. Turned out: A temper directed at themselves is uncomfortable... How surprising... ) And I'm still upset at those, who did the pushing. But that's very different. I don't struggle with basic tasks more than at other times. (I'm not that good at cleaning or cooking) I do struggle with self-care for different reasons. But I try to take care of myself. While I do like nature and going outside is nice, the weather isn't always all that great for that. I found that drawing improves my mood too. So does listening to music. If you can create habbits of self-care, that will likely help more over a long time, than trying to keep those time-pockets free. You could label one of those pockets as "time to try out something new" to keep curious. Or label one as a "recess" or something. The point is: I found, that I struggle to keep such things if I can't put a name to the time. And naming a time-pocket in a way, that means you take care of yourself may help. I heard the label "quality time" as a time of focus on one child. (To ensure a good bond with all children, avoid envy since every child gets a different quality time and give the child confidence and other good mental qualities) A concept that should be applicable to adults too. What would your quality time look like? Maybe it's different tomorrow and today. We do need different things at different times. So it's normal to do other things at quality time over time. I did hear about Forest Bathing before and forests are to me really healing. Didn't know that there is actual chemical evidence for that. I just thought that a forest is to a german appealing on an ancient way. Sort of like to people from islands the ocean seems to be considered magical. So is a forest magical to me. It feels like coming home even when I had never been to this specific forest before. A home that streches on as far as I can see and then even further. There had been places, where I lived, that felt less like a home to me. It's safety, adventure, memories and so much more. Best wishes from europe
@@keithlomas6107 That's too cold to do right now... And so far I didn't see ponds in those forests, where I had been to. I did see streams close to a few trees, but those places had too much open space to be called a forest.
Your description of burnout fits perfectly in terms of what I experienced. Getting divorced after 26 years of marriage, and coming to terms with the fact that I had suffered emotional abuse for years while at the same time moving abroad and continuing working led to my burnout. I am still recovering and it has been a long process of finding my way back to balance, happiness and my normal energy levels. Spending more time in nature, exercising, eating healthy food, spending time with my dog and cold water swimming have helped me the most.
I'm 22 and have never experienced burnout-or so I thought until I started this video. A minute into this video, it clicked, and I realized that this was what I had been feeling for the past six months. I work a full-time job, go to school full-time, and do volunteer work throughout the week which usually takes about 20 hours. I struggle with studying, working, or doing anything. I have the “want to”, yet can't. I waste so much time just trying to escape this feeling. Thank you for the video as it has helped me realize that I need to shift things and allow some quiet moments.
I know I've been burnt out for a while, I've changed my work life balance but I'm still feeling tense, tired with a whole host of symptoms as well as lack of sleep. I've watched slow living videos before so thought I'd search again cos I know they always fill me with a sense of calm whilst being a gentle reminder of living in the present and not rushing. The part where you said neglecting your self care I started to cry, I know I've been struggling with prioritising this, I've got a very busy mind and I can feel like I'm wasting my spare time if I don't fill it. I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome so can completely relate to you. After many years of having this I still feel I 'should' be doing more. I have found a number of youtube channels where young people (Im 67) are realisling how damaging this 21st century mindset of doing more can be. I think this is the reason for so many people suffering wth mental health problems. Even my generation seem to be caught up in it. We are expected to do all sorts when we retire such as run marathons, travel round the world, parachute jump, etc. What happened to just slowing down and 'being'. The Buddhists have a lot of wise words on this subject.😊
I was always stressed due to family issues since childhood. I'm in senior high school and my childhood truma has became an illness of mind. Three months ago I was diagnosed with phobic anxiety disorder. Currently I am under treatment. I hope I can recover soon. At first I used to hide my illness. But as I observed that it only getting worse with time; I made up my mind and visited my doctor. please, dont neglect your mental health everyone.
I think burnout can also happen when we disconnect from WHY we are doing something I’m the first place. Example: I wake up at 4:30 in order to cook my kids a hot breakfast and pack their lunches for school. I do this because those little smiles and hugs fill my heart with happiness. But when I disconnect from that I begin to resent the fact that I “have” to get up to serve everyone else. Although my actions don’t change my mindset gets really negative and in turn zaps my energy. When I take a moment to look at those faces and embrace them back when they hug me, I get energized and want to do even more!

Burnout is very very real... it is so weird to think that we control our bodies until we don't! Eventually, your body WILL let you know when enough is enough. A couple years ago, my body completely hit a wall and would NOT let me continue the work I was doing. No matter how much I wanted to... it took an entire YEAR to even touch that work again, but even then, it was never the same, and I eventually walked away from it completely. When the burnout stems from a soul-sucking job, how do we achieve balance, walk away from something, or attempt real change while also still making money just to survive in this world? What do people do? The grind, over-productivity, and feelings of never doing or being enough is so exhausting to our psyche and bodies. But society, governaments, and employers simply do not care about our burnout. We still need to earn to exist. If society won't change, how do we find balance?

I realised I got to the bottom a few weeks ago, but your video has made me realise I was already well on the way there months previously. At the time I had no idea. It was the combination of so many factors, and I didn’t see it coming until I was sat on my kitchen floor crying one night and I couldn’t work out why. Our family got burn out building up our 38 acre farm. Homesteading channels hide this as they are set out for clicks. We have been farming for over 15 years and when we adopted twins last year, we let so much of the farm go. This past year of rest has not been wasted. Leisure is not laziness. Love this video! Makes me want to turn our woods into a place to forest bathe!

Thank you for making this video. I got incredibly ill recently to the point I basically stayed on my couch for five days. Migraines, back ache, struggling to sleep, complete lack of motivation. It was really hard to take care of myself by myself. I knew though I needed to change my life. I basically sat and did nothing. The guilt was incredibly overwhelming. But I've realised that I am in burn out mode. I cannot blame anyone but there was definitely societal expectations that played a part in my burnout. I have reduced my time on social media significantly. I doubt I will have it in the long run but rather than just immediate cut off I'm doing it slowly. I've also realised, I need slow living. It's what works best for me. There were a lot of things you said that I am going through as well. I thought something was wrong with me. Mood swings, anger, irritability, no motivation , depressed, anxious and panicked. I will not live my life like that. It's going to take time to get well again but I know my life is going to change in some really big ways. The world and society can learn to fit around me. Not the other way around.
Beautiful and important video. I experienced burnout few time in my life. Still I know I am prone to it (doing MBTI helped me with understanding myself, my result was INFJ). But what was most important was therapy. Processing my childhood and understanding where it was all rooted. Highly recommend Inner Child work. Often it happens when we don't receive unconditional love while growing up. When we're not seen. When others are critical of us. Then we can become hard on ourselves, pushing ourselves without stopping. It's important to identify the core beliefs that we've developed. Ones such as: "I am not good enough" "I am only lovable when I achieve" etc. Practicing self compassion and treating ourselves with kindness is important too as well as connecting with our emotions/needs. Only then we can reconnect: with our true selves ❤
I was incredibly healthy, though I worked a very demanding kitchen job that I hated for 40-60 hrs a week for 10 years. My burnout came in the form of severe anxiety (that I never suffered from before) and ulcerative colitis. Haven’t worked in 3 months, practiced lots of mindfulness and self help, did things I always wanted to do and my burnout symptoms though are still present aren’t life altering anymore, and I’m going back to school to be what I always wanted to be. I wish I listened to my body before it tackled me into a forceful stop, however I am semi grateful for what happened.
Burnout is also one of the reasons why I did my slow-living channel last year. I need the break and healing, and also a new routine for the family. It is never easy, but I do it step by step, slowly, and in my own time - patience is all I need. I have found your channel while browsing for info on new books, instead, your channel and others pop up on my screen. I was intrigued by curiosity and saw a few of your videos. I felt that your videos are so beautifully edited and calming - the messages that came through with it are flawless as time and you reminded me a lot of myself while I was your age. I am a mother of 7 and I am 47. I just restarted learning to use my professional camera, again, after so many years stucked in my cupboard (lol) and doing all the new software editing since I have abandoned those since I had kids. Now, it is my turn to take care of myself as well. I will definitely come to visit your place again and watch the rest of your videos as well. Beautiful video. I am living in a chronic state of burn out due to my demanding screen driven career. Ugh. But I start off every day outside on a long walk, today 90 minutes, and I take frequent outdoor breaks. I credit living in the woods for decades with my good health. You are doing the right thing, dont be too hard on yourself, there are worse ways to wind down than screen time, but good job setting the phone down and going outside. ❤❤❤❤
That’s very admirable! Our work does sweep us away sometimes, to the point where you feel like you have to keep pushing through, forgetting to take breaks. Going outside and breathing fresh air, changing your environment is so important! ❤️

A lovely video which I can relate to whole heartedly. I had consciously realised this myself aswell, that whenever I feel overwhelmed and helpless, my instinct is to run to the hills (I live near the South Downs in Sussex England) and they always help my mind get back on a healthy track. I didn’t know what to call what I was going through and that it creeps up on me every now and then, but now I understands it to be burnout and not depression. I smashed into a brick wall a few months ago, turned out I'm burned out... It's an awful state to be in, and it takes so much work to recover from. My doctor told me, for me to gain perspective since I think most things move to slowly, that I should count on it taking at least one year to recover. Right now I'm somewhere in the messy middle, with constant backlashes and doubt that I'll ever be able to come back. Deep down I know I will. But, well... it's hard.
Hello Daria, thank you so much for this video. I subscribed to your channel. I currently struggeling with Long Covid and be forced into radical self care and mindfulness. Every day, if I have enough energy, I go for a little walk into the woods. The trees give so much strength. Forest Bathing is so wonderful to recover from stress and is so good for the soul. It's a very difficult time for me. I'm always there for everyone, family, friends and my husband who was diagnosed with cancer last February. Now I have to practise selfcare. I burnt out six years ago after years of long commutes and 70+ hour weeks in a high stress job. I forgot how to read and developed a stutter, and the doctor thought at first I'd had a stroke. I quit the job and moved to rural Hampshire and now I only work part time. Best thing to ever happen to me.
I CAN RELATE TO ALMOST LIVING ON THIS "THING" BUT THANKFULLY ONE OF OUR PLANET'S FEW WHO DOESN'T OWN A CELL. AT ONE TIME I SPENT 15 HOURS ON HERE AND FREAKED OUT MY SIS WHEN I EMAILED HER AT 4:30AM FOR SOME RECIPE I FOUND INTERESTING. ALTHOUGH THIS 'NET IS A TOTAL PAIN, I HAVE LEARNED SO MANY THINGS IN ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE I COULD HAVE NEVER FOUND IN ANY LIBRARY. SO GLAD YOU'VE DETOXED!!
I had a burnout last year that manifested as a mental problem that I’m still dealing with. It’s been so difficult for me to get along with it because I had an attack of anxiety (six months ago) that happened all of a sudden, and since then most of the things that I had been living for the epoch were just undermining me in that moment in the form of thoughts that I just couldn’t handle and it all ended up generating me lots of panic attacks and anxiety. The thing is, lately (the past months) I’ve been feeling better thanks to reconnecting with the nature, going to therapy, and having these spaces that allow me to put things in their place.

I deal with seasonal affective disorder so I totally understand what you've been going through. You are not alone. I have found that spending time in nature is very healing and strengthening. It is one reason why I go for daily walks. I live on a country road so this is where I usually walk, but I think I need to seek out parks where there are more trees. I also use light therapy with a lamp that imitates natural light (10,000 lux). Journaling and doing artwork helps me considerably. I need to be intentional about slow living when it is autumn and winter, practicing self-care as you've been doing. I am very thankful I found your channel.
I have experienced burnout in a similar way to how you described in this video, though from work pressures instead. Spending time in nature, mindfulness and living in the moment are what helped me recover the most. Seems like my story exactly! Two years into school I burnt out fully trying to graduate early. I pushed through and now I’m at the point where my body physically will not let me keep going. I have flu like symptoms daily and chronic pain / fatigue. I’ve been absolutely forced to slow down and am looking for inspiration in videos such as this. Thanks for all you’re doing.
The forest is so relaxing because 1) green is a calming color, 2) it is quiet, 3) it has a high vibration, 4) it has water and animals, 5) it makes us nostalgic, most forests have always been there, 6) the light is different, 7) every leaf is different which challenges the brain and keeps it too busy to be sad, 8) you have room for exercise, 9) movement balances hormones

Being self employed and chasing money left me burnt out, always in jan and feb, I’ve noticed the pattern and have put reminders in my phone for December to take jan off. I’ve ended up poorly with pain in my gallbladder from bitterness at prioritising client work over my own art, so I am naturally healing now, slowing down, allowing rest, it’s really hard with an adhd brain too, not feeling guilty about it all.
I’ve slipped into burnout recently until I got COVID. I’m still going through it with pretty heavy symptoms but finally I can take a justified break. Even though I can basically only lie in bed I’m so happy to get a mental break which is interesting that this very annoying sickness provided a sense of relief for me. I can now finally start to heal

Got the insight, like you share in this video, to be in spot’s of nature, near water, a park, it doesn’t have to be far away, under a tree, on the grass and atune to nature, breath her in and breath out stress, whenever needed. Whenever I begin feel contractions and pains in the body. It always performs miracles.

Wonderful video. Really helped me to relax. I struggled with burnout since 2012 due to a very stressful marketing career. For some time I enjoyed making similar videos like this in nature while I was still living in England. Now I am back in the Netherlands I feel I felt back in the ratrace trap of working 40-50 hours per week with very little time to create and spend time in nature. Although I enjoy spending time in nature and be creative. The flipside was also that I had to spend hours in editing my videos yet I never really got the traction going. Which was quite disappointing 😞

Hello, thank you for sharing your experience with burnout, it's not something everyone is willing to talk about yet so many suffer from it. All you have mentioned as "remedies" help so much, but as you say, we take time to do them and then forget to actually do them because we feel guilty. I have many times stopped and remembered the words of my psycologist, doing nothing is actually doing something! So taking a nap, reading a book or just daydreaming is very good for our mental health. I force myself at times to just sit in the sun (no forests around😢) even if it is just 5min and just be. Burn out is definitely a real thing. It’s sometimes hard to even realize you need a break. I have recently decided to give up one of my jobs as I am not motivated anymore. I have tried to reboot myself several times and have finally decided to give it up in order to focus in another direction. Not an easy decision, but the time is right. I have always enjoyed the forest but have not spent time there recently with a busy schedule. I think it’s time to do it again very soon. Thank you for sharing that. I needed that nudge. 💕🥰

I wish it was easy to stay mindful, keep yourself in check, as well as checking in with yourself all at the same time, but it's really not 😅. That golden middle where everything is in balance is rather hard to achieve. It's constant work and... not work? all at the same time. You are so lucky for having all this alone space for you to handle this hard time, imagine dealing with burnout and depression while having to work hard to earn money and pursue studies to get a master degree from one of the most important universities , that is what I have been dealing with !!!
I don’t “have” the time and space, I “make” it. I’ve been in a similar situation you’re describing and I know well what it’s like, dealing with depression while having to work or study. Trust me, you’re not alone going through these experiences, and what others are showing to you, only looks easy on the surface. You never know, who’s going through similar experiences, while putting a brave face on and trying to help others at the same time.

Life wouldn't let anyone escape, as there will always be stress caused by troubles and responsibilities, and worst of all, medical conditions or loss of loved ones. I'm currently facing the same and I don't know how to manage things altogether. I have a lot in my to do list and my mind keeps racing now and then. It's really difficult to function normally with such interference. I have tried cutting off social media time and that doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure how to cope with any of this but it felt really good to see you acknowledging rest and detox. Ig It's tougher in the time we live in but there's always hope. Good luck! ❤

My burnout manifested as a chronic illness. It’s been 7 years and I’ve been forced into slow living and radical self care. I’m finally recovering. But I can’t stop being mindful.

Same. Because I can only work part time, and have to, I live frugally and slow, and I try to lift it up by turning it into the "romanticizing life lifestyle". I see the beauty in the little things, I make art, make clothes, follow tutorials to fix stuff, I read tons of books others dont have time for and indulge in foods I make myself.
Same , I have CFS. I treated myself so horribly before I got ill 😢 in some ways it’s been a blessing, but I also had to spend a couple of years in bed away from my children. I hope my radical changes in behaviour and actions will leave them overall better off than the harm of the years being bedbound. Love to you and may you heal completely in time❤

I have felt like ' the walking dead / zombie for quite a while now. I have stopped using social media... for 2 days so far ( goal is 90 days ) I live in a small apartment / flat.. and there is a lot of noise around me, so that means I put on my headphones.. and then I tend to watch a lot of different things on youtube. Slowing myself down, reading books, cleaning up the clutter and mess.. are a few of my current goals. Having self compassion, patience is the mindset that I am working on. I love your video. I am a teacher I have always taught in areas of high poverty and while I love what I do the last two years were terribly stressful. Teaching in the U.S. has become very bad. Teachers are not treated well. After last year's schoolyear I physically and mentally crashed. I stayed on my couch for over a month either sleeping or watching something on my computer. I showered everyday but that was about it. After a month or so I began to feel better. I was worried about the upcoming schoolyear. I began to take better care of myself. Staying away from processed food, eating more veggies, etc. I also take supplements from a functional doctor. I am close to Lake Michigan so when the weather is warmer I go to the beach. This always makes me feel better. I am in my '50s and finally realized that my soul needed to slow down. I am feeling better now. I do not worry about work as this is my last year teaching and am excited about what is around the corner. I am glad to hear you are feel better too.
I think it's great you talked about this. I had experienced burnout before and it was a strange feeling of helplessness. I specifically remember this one instance, looking at a pile of dishes in the kitchen sink thinking ''there's no point in washing any of these, they will just get dirty again anyway'' and couldn't then bring myself to clean them, I felt powerless and the simple task of washing dishes felt like something unachievable, like something too much. Taking a break in routine and any sort of work is very important. It can feel like a waste of time but it is not

I met the edge of my burnout last fall, physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted. I could feel the change in me, felt like I didn’t know who I was anymore and realizing that I knew that only I alone could change it. I will admit a year later now and still struggling as I have cared for my mom with Alzheimer’s for 5+ years, 24/7 with not a single day off. It seems like I’m always there for everyone but me, my adult kids, teen grandkids, family, friends, etc. My doctor recognized the change in a year and said you know you can’t pour from an empty cup. I so need and appreciate your video and encouragement to remind me that I need to continue to push forward. Thank you❤

thank you so much for this inspiring video. I am in recovery from the burnout I had 4 years ago. I was working as a musical theater actress. Living my dream. But it turned into a nightmare. My burnout was linked to developing panic attacks and depression. I did not notice the warning signs in time and felt like I was trapped in my everyday life unable to change anything. And then my body took over, demanding the rest and distance it needed without my consent. That was a very scary experience but a needed one.
The last four years have been challenging. I never fully gained back the energy I once had, but therefore I adapted mindfulness and tenderness towards my body, trying my best to give it the chance to heal and be heard.

This is really strange.. the view from your window and your cozy home might be someone else's definition of happiness and can be all what someone else dreams of.. but even you (the person who already has it) can go through burnout moments where you stop seeing all the blessings you have in hand.. I guess happiness is in accepting exactly where you are in life and what you have in hand and being grateful for it.. truely.. if happiness isn't within, then there's no use looking for it somewhere else..

This is crazy because I recently burnt out in a cabin. I just moved to a cottage in the north of Sweden. Life hit me pretty hard. I used to live in Miami being around street violence, guns, death, and I even used to eat $3 a day, 25 cents noodles, expired toast and canned campbell tomato soup. I survived the Boston Marathon Bombing which was a few feet away and I saw all the blood the people screaming and I was alone at 18. I also used to live in a room with no kitchen, trash bag as a window and bugs crawling on me at night. I ended up moving states (from LA to Miami) and ended up working a job where I had to literally hope I don't get shot or robbed while working overnight near one of the most dangerous areas. So I ended up takin boxing to protect myself and learned how to defend against bigger threats. Now I live in a cabin in the north of Sweden where I run an online business, I go down to a lake to breathe and heal my past and I post on RUclips to help others who need it the most 💜

I don't think I had burn out before. I did lose my temper yesterday. (Strange, how some people can push at buttons without limits for weeks on end. And when they finally do get to see the temper they had been trying to dig up, they don't like it at all. Turned out: A temper directed at themselves is uncomfortable... How surprising... ) And I'm still upset at those, who did the pushing.
But that's very different. I don't struggle with basic tasks more than at other times. (I'm not that good at cleaning or cooking) I do struggle with self-care for different reasons. But I try to take care of myself.
While I do like nature and going outside is nice, the weather isn't always all that great for that. I found that drawing improves my mood too. So does listening to music. If you can create habbits of self-care, that will likely help more over a long time, than trying to keep those time-pockets free. You could label one of those pockets as "time to try out something new" to keep curious. Or label one as a "recess" or something. The point is: I found, that I struggle to keep such things if I can't put a name to the time. And naming a time-pocket in a way, that means you take care of yourself may help. I heard the label "quality time" as a time of focus on one child. (To ensure a good bond with all children, avoid envy since every child gets a different quality time and give the child confidence and other good mental qualities) A concept that should be applicable to adults too. What would your quality time look like? Maybe it's different tomorrow and today. We do need different things at different times. So it's normal to do other things at quality time over time.
I did hear about Forest Bathing before and forests are to me really healing. Didn't know that there is actual chemical evidence for that. I just thought that a forest is to a german appealing on an ancient way. Sort of like to people from islands the ocean seems to be considered magical. So is a forest magical to me.
It feels like coming home even when I had never been to this specific forest before. A home that streches on as far as I can see and then even further. There had been places, where I lived, that felt less like a home to me. It's safety, adventure, memories and so much more.

@@keithlomas6107 That's too cold to do right now... And so far I didn't see ponds in those forests, where I had been to. I did see streams close to a few trees, but those places had too much open space to be called a forest.
Your description of burnout fits perfectly in terms of what I experienced. Getting divorced after 26 years of marriage, and coming to terms with the fact that I had suffered emotional abuse for years while at the same time moving abroad and continuing working led to my burnout. I am still recovering and it has been a long process of finding my way back to balance, happiness and my normal energy levels. Spending more time in nature, exercising, eating healthy food, spending time with my dog and cold water swimming have helped me the most.
I'm 22 and have never experienced burnout-or so I thought until I started this video. A minute into this video, it clicked, and I realized that this was what I had been feeling for the past six months. I work a full-time job, go to school full-time, and do volunteer work throughout the week which usually takes about 20 hours. I struggle with studying, working, or doing anything. I have the “want to”, yet can't. I waste so much time just trying to escape this feeling. Thank you for the video as it has helped me realize that I need to shift things and allow some quiet moments.

I know I've been burnt out for a while, I've changed my work life balance but I'm still feeling tense, tired with a whole host of symptoms as well as lack of sleep.
I've watched slow living videos before so thought I'd search again cos I know they always fill me with a sense of calm whilst being a gentle reminder of living in the present and not rushing.
The part where you said neglecting your self care I started to cry, I know I've been struggling with prioritising this, I've got a very busy mind and I can feel like I'm wasting my spare time if I don't fill it.

I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome so can completely relate to you. After many years of having this I still feel I 'should' be doing more. I have found a number of youtube channels where young people (Im 67) are realisling how damaging this 21st century mindset of doing more can be. I think this is the reason for so many people suffering wth mental health problems. Even my generation seem to be caught up in it. We are expected to do all sorts when we retire such as run marathons, travel round the world, parachute jump, etc. What happened to just slowing down and 'being'. The Buddhists have a lot of wise words on this subject.😊

I was always stressed due to family issues since childhood. I'm in senior high school and my childhood truma has became an illness of mind. Three months ago I was diagnosed with phobic anxiety disorder. Currently I am under treatment. I hope I can recover soon. At first I used to hide my illness. But as I observed that it only getting worse with time; I made up my mind and visited my doctor. please, dont neglect your mental health everyone.
How did it get worst overtime?
I think burnout can also happen when we disconnect from WHY we are doing something I’m the first place.
Example: I wake up at 4:30 in order to cook my kids a hot breakfast and pack their lunches for school. I do this because those little smiles and hugs fill my heart with happiness.
But when I disconnect from that I begin to resent the fact that I “have” to get up to serve everyone else.
Although my actions don’t change my mindset gets really negative and in turn zaps my energy.
When I take a moment to look at those faces and embrace them back when they hug me, I get energized and want to do even more!

Burnout is very very real... it is so weird to think that we control our bodies until we don't! Eventually, your body WILL let you know when enough is enough. A couple years ago, my body completely hit a wall and would NOT let me continue the work I was doing. No matter how much I wanted to... it took an entire YEAR to even touch that work again, but even then, it was never the same, and I eventually walked away from it completely.
When the burnout stems from a soul-sucking job, how do we achieve balance, walk away from something, or attempt real change while also still making money just to survive in this world? What do people do?
The grind, over-productivity, and feelings of never doing or being enough is so exhausting to our psyche and bodies. But society, governaments, and employers simply do not care about our burnout. We still need to earn to exist. If society won't change, how do we find balance?

Our family got burn out building up our 38 acre farm. Homesteading channels hide this as they are set out for clicks. We have been farming for over 15 years and when we adopted twins last year, we let so much of the farm go. This past year of rest has not been wasted. Leisure is not laziness. Love this video! Makes me want to turn our woods into a place to forest bathe!

Thank you for making this video. I got incredibly ill recently to the point I basically stayed on my couch for five days. Migraines, back ache, struggling to sleep, complete lack of motivation. It was really hard to take care of myself by myself. I knew though I needed to change my life. I basically sat and did nothing. The guilt was incredibly overwhelming.
But I've realised that I am in burn out mode. I cannot blame anyone but there was definitely societal expectations that played a part in my burnout.
I have reduced my time on social media significantly. I doubt I will have it in the long run but rather than just immediate cut off I'm doing it slowly.
I've also realised, I need slow living. It's what works best for me.
There were a lot of things you said that I am going through as well.
I thought something was wrong with me. Mood swings, anger, irritability, no motivation , depressed, anxious and panicked. I will not live my life like that.
It's going to take time to get well again but I know my life is going to change in some really big ways. The world and society can learn to fit around me. Not the other way around.

I experienced burnout few time in my life. Still I know I am prone to it (doing MBTI helped me with understanding myself, my result was INFJ). But what was most important was therapy. Processing my childhood and understanding where it was all rooted. Highly recommend Inner Child work.
Often it happens when we don't receive unconditional love while growing up. When we're not seen. When others are critical of us. Then we can become hard on ourselves, pushing ourselves without stopping.
It's important to identify the core beliefs that we've developed. Ones such as: "I am not good enough" "I am only lovable when I achieve" etc.
Practicing self compassion and treating ourselves with kindness is important too as well as connecting with our emotions/needs.
Only then we can reconnect: with our true selves ❤
I was incredibly healthy, though I worked a very demanding kitchen job that I hated for 40-60 hrs a week for 10 years. My burnout came in the form of severe anxiety (that I never suffered from before) and ulcerative colitis. Haven’t worked in 3 months, practiced lots of mindfulness and self help, did things I always wanted to do and my burnout symptoms though are still present aren’t life altering anymore, and I’m going back to school to be what I always wanted to be. I wish I listened to my body before it tackled me into a forceful stop, however I am semi grateful for what happened.
Burnout is also one of the reasons why I did my slow-living channel last year. I need the break and healing, and also a new routine for the family. It is never easy, but I do it step by step, slowly, and in my own time - patience is all I need. I have found your channel while browsing for info on new books, instead, your channel and others pop up on my screen. I was intrigued by curiosity and saw a few of your videos. I felt that your videos are so beautifully edited and calming - the messages that came through with it are flawless as time and you reminded me a lot of myself while I was your age. I am a mother of 7 and I am 47. I just restarted learning to use my professional camera, again, after so many years stucked in my cupboard (lol) and doing all the new software editing since I have abandoned those since I had kids. Now, it is my turn to take care of myself as well. I will definitely come to visit your place again and watch the rest of your videos as well. Beautiful video. I am living in a chronic state of burn out due to my demanding screen driven career. Ugh. But I start off every day outside on a long walk, today 90 minutes, and I take frequent outdoor breaks. I credit living in the woods for decades with my good health. You are doing the right thing, dont be too hard on yourself, there are worse ways to wind down than screen time, but good job setting the phone down and going outside. ❤❤❤❤

A lovely video which I can relate to whole heartedly. I had consciously realised this myself aswell, that whenever I feel overwhelmed and helpless, my instinct is to run to the hills (I live near the South Downs in Sussex England) and they always help my mind get back on a healthy track. I didn’t know what to call what I was going through and that it creeps up on me every now and then, but now I understands it to be burnout and not depression. I smashed into a brick wall a few months ago, turned out I'm burned out... It's an awful state to be in, and it takes so much work to recover from. My doctor told me, for me to gain perspective since I think most things move to slowly, that I should count on it taking at least one year to recover. Right now I'm somewhere in the messy middle, with constant backlashes and doubt that I'll ever be able to come back. Deep down I know I will. But, well... it's hard.

I do love creating videos so I want to do it for now and try to stick to schedule not because I feel pressured to, but because I operate a bit better when I have some sort of consistent goal to work to. Otherwise I feel like I might become lazy 🙈

I burnt out six years ago after years of long commutes and 70+ hour weeks in a high stress job. I forgot how to read and developed a stutter, and the doctor thought at first I'd had a stroke.
I quit the job and moved to rural Hampshire and now I only work part time. Best thing to ever happen to me.
I CAN RELATE TO ALMOST LIVING ON THIS "THING" BUT THANKFULLY ONE OF OUR PLANET'S FEW WHO DOESN'T OWN A CELL. AT ONE TIME I SPENT 15 HOURS ON HERE AND FREAKED OUT MY SIS WHEN I EMAILED HER AT 4:30AM FOR SOME RECIPE I FOUND INTERESTING. ALTHOUGH THIS 'NET IS A TOTAL PAIN, I HAVE LEARNED SO MANY THINGS IN ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE I COULD HAVE NEVER FOUND IN ANY LIBRARY. SO GLAD YOU'VE DETOXED!!
I had a burnout last year that manifested as a mental problem that I’m still dealing with. It’s been so difficult for me to get along with it because I had an attack of anxiety (six months ago) that happened all of a sudden, and since then most of the things that I had been living for the epoch were just undermining me in that moment in the form of thoughts that I just couldn’t handle and it all ended up generating me lots of panic attacks and anxiety. The thing is, lately (the past months) I’ve been feeling better thanks to reconnecting with the nature, going to therapy, and having these spaces that allow me to put things in their place.

I deal with seasonal affective disorder so I totally understand what you've been going through. You are not alone. I have found that spending time in nature is very healing and strengthening. It is one reason why I go for daily walks. I live on a country road so this is where I usually walk, but I think I need to seek out parks where there are more trees. I also use light therapy with a lamp that imitates natural light (10,000 lux). Journaling and doing artwork helps me considerably. I need to be intentional about slow living when it is autumn and winter, practicing self-care as you've been doing. I am very thankful I found your channel.

I have experienced burnout in a similar way to how you described in this video, though from work pressures instead. Spending time in nature, mindfulness and living in the moment are what helped me recover the most. Forest Bathing is just wonderful - please do make a video on it that would be amazing! 🌳🌲 Hope you are feeling better or at least starting to.

Two years into school I burnt out fully trying to graduate early. I pushed through and now I’m at the point where my body physically will not let me keep going. I have flu like symptoms daily and chronic pain / fatigue. I’ve been absolutely forced to slow down and am looking for inspiration in videos such as this. Thanks for all you’re doing.
The forest is so relaxing because 1) green is a calming color, 2) it is quiet, 3) it has a high vibration, 4) it has water and animals, 5) it makes us nostalgic, most forests have always been there, 6) the light is different, 7) every leaf is different which challenges the brain and keeps it too busy to be sad, 8) you have room for exercise, 9) movement balances hormones

your video healed something inside me... I didn't know that I was experiencing burnout .
Being self employed and chasing money left me burnt out, always in jan and feb, I’ve noticed the pattern and have put reminders in my phone for December to take jan off. I’ve ended up poorly with pain in my gallbladder from bitterness at prioritising client work over my own art, so I am naturally healing now, slowing down, allowing rest, it’s really hard with an adhd brain too, not feeling guilty about it all.
I’ve slipped into burnout recently until I got COVID. I’m still going through it with pretty heavy symptoms but finally I can take a justified break. Even though I can basically only lie in bed I’m so happy to get a mental break which is interesting that this very annoying sickness provided a sense of relief for me. I can now finally start to heal

Got the insight, like you share in this video, to be in spot’s of nature, near water, a park, it doesn’t have to be far away, under a tree, on the grass and atune to nature, breath her in and breath out stress, whenever needed. Whenever I begin feel contractions and pains in the body. It always performs miracles.

Wonderful video. Really helped me to relax. I struggled with burnout since 2012 due to a very stressful marketing career. For some time I enjoyed making similar videos like this in nature while I was still living in England. Now I am back in the Netherlands I feel I felt back in the ratrace trap of working 40-50 hours per week with very little time to create and spend time in nature. Although I enjoy spending time in nature and be creative. The flipside was also that I had to spend hours in editing my videos yet I never really got the traction going. Which was quite disappointing 😞

Hello, thank you for sharing your experience with burnout, it's not something everyone is willing to talk about yet so many suffer from it. All you have mentioned as "remedies" help so much, but as you say, we take time to do them and then forget to actually do them because we feel guilty. I have many times stopped and remembered the words of my psycologist, doing nothing is actually doing something! So taking a nap, reading a book or just daydreaming is very good for our mental health. I force myself at times to just sit in the sun (no forests around😢) even if it is just 5min and just be. I've experienced this... I think I am experiencing it now actually. It's not fun at all... I'll maybe take a social media detox myself, focus on family, do things that bring me joy and attend to all the things I have managed to ignore. I am hoping this feeling will pass for me as well. Burn out is definitely a real thing. It’s sometimes hard to even realize you need a break. I have recently decided to give up one of my jobs as I am not motivated anymore. I have tried to reboot myself several times and have finally decided to give it up in order to focus in another direction. Not an easy decision, but the time is right. I have always enjoyed the forest but have not spent time there recently with a busy schedule. I think it’s time to do it again very soon. Thank you for sharing that. I needed that nudge. 💕🥰

You are so lucky for having all this alone space for you to handle this hard time, imagine dealing with burnout and depression while having to work hard to earn money and pursue studies to get a master degree from one of the most important universities , that is what I have been dealing with !!!
I don’t “have” the time and space, I “make” it. I’ve been in a similar situation you’re describing and I know well what it’s like, dealing with depression while having to work or study. Trust me, you’re not alone going through these experiences, and what others are showing to you, only looks easy on the surface. You never know, who’s going through similar experiences, while putting a brave face on and trying to help others at the same time.
I’m not sure that is lucky, I think maybe you need to prioritise your own wellbeing and make time

Life wouldn't let anyone escape, as there will always be stress caused by troubles and responsibilities, and worst of all, medical conditions or loss of loved ones. The good news are that, in most cases, we can choose how to face burnout, and it's exactly what you're doing! 😃👍 The mind needs an outlet, it needs freedom and happiness: being in contact with Nature (yes!! I'm currently facing the same and I don't know how to manage things altogether. I have a lot in my to do list and my mind keeps racing now and then. It's really difficult to function normally with such interference. I have tried cutting off social media time and that doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure how to cope with any of this but it felt really good to see you acknowledging rest and detox. Ig It's tougher in the time we live in but there's always hope. Good luck! ❤
