Excellent playing sir!! I'm stoked that somebody your age appreciates such great music!! Also, thanks for giving Bill Wyman his due credit. Everybody's always stuck on the fact that Keith, Ronnie & Mick Taylor played some of the basslines on some of their songs and act like Bill was just there for live performance. I'm a bassist as well and have great respect for Bill's playing style!! People fail to understand that Bill played on many of their studio tracks. I can distinctly tell the difference between Bills' playing on record versus one of the guitarists playing the bass on a track and greatly admire how Bills' playing might not always be too flashy, but he always plays the right notes, in just the right spots. Charlie and Bill are probably one of the tightest, most solid rhythm sections of all time!!
Max Tomlinson Thanks and yeah I've often tried to work it out but it sounds like slightly distorted guitar to me, I think Bill is just miming in the video
+The Foxy grandpa Personally I think Hofner Ignition basses are cheaply made and have a pretty crap tone, and they're far too light. I think the Viola definitely overtakes the Ignition. The Contemporary series basses are slightly better. But as for the more expensive Hofners such as original 1962/63 500/1 basses and the newer 500/1 reissue basses, those have a much nicer tone and for that reason, they're probably better than the Viola. In general though, none of them sound good with roundwound strings in my opinion, and flatwounds are a must if you want a good tone.
I always thought that the 500/1's were overpriced crap that got lucky because the world's most famous bassist used them as his trademark instrument. Seriously, I dislike the cheap wooden tone of the Hofner. I like the Viola for it's upright bassy tone and beefy sound that doesn't get too thumpy. Oh yeah, and it sounds great even with round-wounds.
I must say, I really do like the woody, vintage, warm tone of 500/1's, undoubtedly most of their success if due to McCartney, but I do think they stand up as a nice instrument personally.
Beautiful tune, great bass lines ..
The video, the sound and the look. brilliant!
Very nice. Amazing how much can Bill W do with so little. Always exactly what the song needs. Very nice cover!
HappyStrat24 I agree, I love the simplicity. Thanks.

Thank You So Much Rob!!!
The Foxy grandpa No problem :)
Nice cover. I just need a paisley shirt. Is the intro played on bass as well? Sounds like it might be guitar. But I see it on some bass tabs.

What's your opinion on the Hofner, in comparison to the viola?

Yeah I guess, but the sustain could be better.
