It is awesome to see you again, Matthew! I am sure that you used your extra week of leave to the best of your ability. Today’s video was extremely interesting and I am glad to see how well trained crew are, especially when it comes to everyone’s safety. The most important lesson that I got from your video is to never procrastinate, keep all of your documentation up to date. You can’t go back and catch up on all of your entries and expect officers to sign their names to those tasks that you claim that you performed. I don’t know if I got everything correct, but I enjoyed your video very much.
Hi Matthew! As always, excellent work and educational material. This video will be one of the first to be watched again when, after I have experience on a yacht as a deckhand and start preparing for an officer :)
Thanks Alex! Remember that you don't have to wait until you get a job. I recommend printing out a copy of the book now, filling in your details, and familiarising yourself with the tasks. Then you'll be ready to get started as soon as you join a yacht.
First to View, Like and Comment. Hi Matthew, Nice to have you back, looks like you benefited from your time off. You look refreshed. Again Great Content.
Welcome back to RUclips. Hope you enjoyed your time off. As usual great video and great information. Thanks for all the hard work and enjoy your extra week off.
Hello Raynold! It's great to hear from you again! I really enjoyed my time off, but it's good to be back. Thank you as always for your comments and support.
Hello Matthew! Nice to see you again. I hope you have enjoyed your leave, and as always, really informative video, and looking forward to your upcoming videos :) hope you are well
Hello Motters! It's great to hear from you again, and I hope you're still progressing well with your courses. The Training Record Book shall keep you busy once you've completed your Yachtmaster!
Hello SailorYuki! I hope all is well with you. My time off was great, and I enjoyed having an extra week. Thank you as always for commenting. It's good to be back!
I rarely ever (never) comment on videos, but I really want to start of by thanking you for all the content you've uploaded. I work as the skipper on smaller yachts (20-25m) and some of these videos have helped me ALOT since I've never worked as a deckhand on the big yachts. Some of the tricks and tips you've shared have been a life saver. Thanks!! I've got a question that you might be able to help me with. This summer, my plan is to start filling in my training record book. My question is how this would be done since I have no higher master or officer on board the yacht other than me. I currently have the YM ocean. In the training record book, the tasks etc need to be supervised and signed off by the Master. This makes me wonder if I can sign of tasks for myself, or if I am forced to go work on a bigger yacht before I can start filling in my training record book. Will probably have to send an email to MCA, but thought I'd give it a shot and see if you have any idea... Many Thanks once more!
Hello Dominik. Thank you for the fantastic feedback on the channel! Yes, you can sign the Training Record Book yourself. Check out the following article for an explanation of what you need to do: theislander.net/the-training-record-book-trb-your-guide/ The information you’re looking for is under the heading, “Self-assessing the TRB”. I would also suggest contacting the MCA for confirmation.
Amazing video as always thank you again, I’m studying for my master 200GT I was wondering if you had any tips on what to study to be ready for the exam 😊
Hello dudry. Great question! This Training Record Book is for anyone wanting to do the MCA OOW 3000 qualification. It doesn't matter what nationality you are.
Hey Matthew, that's a great video, thanks! Just few questions. If I already have Yacht Rating certificate (had it for half a year as one of the boats requiered it), that means I can skip the Part 1 in TRB and just add my certificate right? I'm just don't have those testimonials anymore, after applying on PYA for yacht rating I lost them. How can that seatime be attached to TRB then?
Hi. I’m currently a lead deckhand on a 30m new build. Almost 6 months into this job and would like to do my yachtmaster offshore over winter. Can I use this training record book to show eligibility for the yachtmaster course or is it just for OOW? Online you see all the requirements to be able to do the yachtmaster offshfore but I’ve struggled finding a solid answer as to how I prove my sea time and miles for a yachtmaster.
Hi Matt just wondering when you think would be the best time for fresh out of courses yachties going over to antibes is because I'm curious because of Corona? And do you think yachting is over saturated?
Hello David. Traditionally, the best time for new yacht crew to start looking for work in the Mediterranean is from about April to July. As a result of the pandemic, some yachts are delaying hiring crew. This of course means less job opportunities; however, there are less new crew in the Med looking for work. There's no doubt that competition for yacht crew jobs is higher than it used to be. Having said this, good yacht crew are still in high demand. You may have to work harder in the beginning to get that first job, but if you prove yourself as a great crew member there will always be opportunities available to you.
Hi matt, I just found your channel, and it is nice, i hace a question, i am OOW 500gt and i want to know, How difficult or how available is it to get a vacancy in that grade? Greetings from Colombia!
Hi Matt, useful content as always, but I have a dilemma and I wonder if you know the solution. I have an MCA CoC as Master of yachts up to 200gt and I already skipper a smaller yacht commercially. I would like to 'move up through the ranks', but how do I certify my own time in order to achieve satisfy the requirements for OOW 3000 when I am already in charge. Or is it only possible to get the experience on larger yachts with more senior crew?
Hello Martin, and thank you for commenting. This is something to double-check with the MCA, but I found the following article which answers your question: theislander.net/the-training-record-book-trb-your-guide/ I hope it helps!
Hi Matthew, thank a lot for making these videos, they are very helpfull. Question about the sea service, does one need to present proof with testimonials for the 36 months of sea service or only for the 365 days on yachts over 24 meters?
Hello Emmanuel. Your testimonials should show 36 months of onboard yacht service AND 365 days of seagoing service. For example, if you work on a yacht from 30/01/2022 until 30/09/2022, you will earn 8 months of onboard yacht service. Depending on the yacht and its schedule, you might also earn 71 days of seagoing service. If you check out the Deck Officer Testimonial pro forma on page 17 of the Training Record Book (linked in the description of this video), you'll see that there are spaces for both sets of information. Before you can submit your testimonials to the MCA, they must be verified by either Nautilus or the PYA. They will also record both onboard yacht service AND seagoing service. If you haven't done so already, check out the following video for more information: ruclips.net/video/RAAkB5ltqlk/видео.html
Liked and subscribed. Thank you very much for your videos, I really appreciate these. You made me understand what's the industry about and it was very helpful for me. I have still one question about qualification. Let's suppose, that someone who has been working for some time on a container ship for some time and has the unlimited chief officer licence wants to join the super yacht industry. Is that possible in your opinion? Thanks
Hello Jonáš, and welcome to the channel! Yes, it is possible for someone to move from merchant ships to superyachts. For more information on this subject, please check out my latest video: ruclips.net/video/r2FWpTp1g0s/видео.html
Hi Matthew! I finally arrived on the yacht. Now I have a printed training book on my hands. I have already been familiarized with all the security measures on board. I know what is included in my duties at emergence signals. We conducted one fire alarm training. Which pages can I already fill out and give to my Chief Officer for signature? Thank you in advance!
Hello Alex, and congratulations on your new job! You should now be able to fill out (at least some of) pages 19, 26-27, and 32-34. I also highly recommend completing the yacht particulars on pages 20 and 21.
Hello!! thanks for all the tips! wonderful channel! I see the link is in an UK government website. Is this only for UK citizens or does it apply for all crew members all around the world?
Hello MAZOPPEI. The MCA is a UK government agency, but crew members of any nationality can follow their programme of training, and apply for their qualifications. Other nations offer similar qualifications, but the MCA ones are some of the best recognised, particularly within the yachting industry.
Hello Nidheesh. Congratulations on completing your deck cadet training. I hope my latest video will help to answer this question: ruclips.net/video/r2FWpTp1g0s/видео.html
Hey man, thought I could get your attention here! Just a question. Been watching your videos a few months now, I'm almost done with training to apply to work! I was just wondering if you knew anything about the latest with COVID-19, is it mandatory for crew to have the vaccine to work? Is it possible to just show negative covid tests? Its a touchy subject for everyone, I understand that, but I'd rather not get the vaccine myself so if I could avoid getting it I would, do you have any information? Love you man keep it up.
Hello Jamie, and thank you for supporting the channel. It's too early to say whether or not vaccines will be made mandatory for yacht crew, but some crew are being advised to get a vaccine once they are eligible for one in their home country. In time, it is very likely that some yachts will expect all of their crew to be vaccinated, because it will be requested by owners and charterers. However, there are many people who don't like the idea of getting vaccinated, and there may well be some yachts that won't enforce it. Thank you again, and good luck with completing your courses!
@@WorkonaSuperyacht Thanks a lot! You're the one who's inspired me to take on this career path. Hope to be working on the same yacht as you one day! Jamie.
