The Pakol Festival of Sta. Catalina is one of the most famous festivals here in the province of Negros Oriental, celebrated annually on 24th of April, . In fact, this festival became the Grand Slam Champion last 2014 with three consecutive wins during the Buglasan Festival of Negros Oriental, wherein they weren’t allowed to compete. The contingent still performed as guests and entertained the thousands of excited screaming spectators in the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex during the showdown. Sta. Catalina is a religious community who celebrates the Pakol Festival in honor of Sta. Catalina de Alejandria , who is their patron saint. Pakol is a variety of banana that grows abundantly in the lands of Sta. Catalina.
The Buglasan Festival of Festivals, which includes a grand showdown and a street dancing competition, is the province’s premier showcase of the socio-cultural heritage and uniqueness of each town and city in Negros Oriental and is held every October.
The grand showdown was held Friday morning at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center in the capital city of Dumaguete. In the afternoon, the contingents also participated in the street dancing competition around the major thoroughfares while the Buglasan 2017 King and Queen pageant was held in the evening of the same day at the Freedom Park.

The choreography, formation, transition are so clean and well executed.
Kelangan ng ganitong performance sa Aliwan... Although mabigat un contingents sa aliwan 2018, this festival could offer a fresh concept, or new taste in the Aliwan... I was rooting for Buglasan to join Aliwan, specifically Yagyag festival, kaso never pa ata sila sumali. Hopefully this year makasali to... 👍

sta catalina deserves to win because they have what it takes though they don't have colorful and amazing props but when it comes to dancing they owned the stage. its not about how wonderful the props are but it is about how wonderful and very clear in dancing. I could easily identify the concept of Pakol Festival. this is about buglasan not a Sinulog.

Ganda nito, possible kaya yung choreographer nito yun ding nag choreo sa yagyag festival natanong lang, mejo hawig yung galaw at saliw sa tunog ang ganda pati yung storya nitong pakol ang ganda. Grand Slam Champion na ang Yagyag Festival ng Sibulan, hindi sila pinasali this year. Maybe next year. :) You should watch the performance of Pamplona (Yamog Festival), maybe the Choreographer of Yagyag (Mr.Dingdong) helped them because his family is from Pamplona.
