I honestly think taking the Chaos Dwarf Hellforge mechanics would be WONDERFUL for regular Dwarfs. Oathgold is so plentiful mid-late game, and having extra buffs bought and upkept with Oathgold would be A+ and could be a great way to buff their weaker units like Slayers.

For Daniel, he needs to get other faction mechanics for devoting. Pick Nurgle, get the caldron, pick Tzeench, get changing of the ways, Slaanesh, get seduction for factions. He also needs redline skills on all of his lords for all factions (devoting to undivided still leads to monogod picks because his skill lines are still faction specific).

Also the Khorne secondary money building is hot garbage (it only gives gold when an enemy lord is present, so mostly never). Daniel himself also can't equip ancillaries. What Daniel ACTUALLY needs is actually meeting his actual fucking fantasy of piecing together a choose your own Demon Roster. Instead of this BS "you have nothing at all for the first ten turns" and "it's turn 50, I have enough of all glory to cap out every tree at once if the game would let me", which then is also let down by the fact that your generic lords are literally just "here's the Monodaemon Lords, have fun I guess", which means the closest you can ACTUALLY get to a reasonably effective version of mixed armies is a Herald of Nurgle working with a Khorne Lord leading a Khorne Army.

The low hp recruitment is so bad for nurgle. Not only does it slow down an army that already takes ages to recruit interesting and varied armies that aren't just nurgling spam, it makes no lore sense nor does it fit with how nurgle is supposed to play. Nurgle followers are meant to be incredibly tanky and hard to kill so making it that spawning units are easy to kill just ruins their play style if you're already struggling in a tough war. They're also the only chaos faction that has this idea with warriors of chaos being able to recruit entire armies in a single turn with no downside

So I thought of a Ogre rework. Bassically you have "The Pot" (tm). It would work like a mix of skaven food mechanics and big trophies. Each lord has a pot for their army, which you fill by raiding and beating armies. When the pot is empty you get stuff like lower unit replenishment or maybe attrition but that might get annoying, maybe you can toggle lower replenishment to keep the pot full (trick new recruits and just eat them instead of actually recruiting them). The more food in the pot the more buffs the army gets, stuff like HP, leadership and melee defense buffs. But depending on what race you fill the pot with you get new buffs. And bc I don't like how Wah trophies don't stack the buff depends on the proportion of that race filling the pot, maybe in 5% chunks so 20 chunks total. For example eating dwarves would give natural spell resist, and at 100% dwarf filled pot you get the same natural resist that dwarves have. It would take work making balanced effects for each race but I think it would at least be something fun, that would change each lords army to have different things going on. I also think you should leave the option open to some funny stuff happening, like ogre units that die spawn a pack of zombies if you eat too many vampires, or explode with a warp bomb if you eat too many skaven. Not every race needs to 100% give a bonus imo, but most should

for slaneesh : the fun thing about vassals is that you can take control of parts of the map that are at the other side of the world using the vassal mechanic combined with the cult mechanic. you can get a cult in the ogre mountains and have greasus become your vassal, giving you a shit ton of money without working for it while everybody in the area are scared of getting into a war against him because of the fact that it would mean declaring war on you also. and since the cult appear at random places, every campaign is very different from the other wince you'll always vallasize very different lords from very different places of the world.
for daniel : i never thought about making mini daniels for my secondary armies but now that i've heard of it, i NEED it, and it's all your fault!
for ogres : everything you said is the same thing i want since 2 years ago.
for nurgle : 2 fixes to the building mecanic -> first you cut the price of every building by half, second you make it so the higher the level of the main building of the region, the bigger the number of units are added to your recruitment. meaning that once you get a level 5 main building, you'll produce 5 time more units per cycle.

re Bretonnia, I'm a fan of having a restriction like the peasant economy as a thing, it perhaps just needs some redesign, either getting more unit cap per settlement or a bonus for controlling a whole province. You can always ignore it by building industry rather than farm economy buildings, which are worse but then don't get affected by any malus for going over the peasant cap.
I wonder if something like a short-term bonus to the unit cap, or negating of it entirely for several turns after war is declared would be an idea, with the bad effects slowly building up the longer the peasants have been away from the fields.
Also I've always been salty that the change to minor settlement battles re-worked Bretonnian minor settlements so they wouldn't become walled at tier 3. I liked them having this unique extra defensive ability cause Bretonnian garrisons are among the worst. I feel making tier 3 minor settlements have a minor settlement battle again, with the defensive building adding walls, would make them feel unique again.

Aside from Bloodlines and Ghorst's magnificent rebirth, Vampires have been hit with nerf after nerf. Right off the bat, no more free skeletons and the cairn/hexwraith building got bumped from T2/T3 to T3/T4. This also meant Banshees got bumped from T3 to T4 with it. With Bloodlines requiring you to go after lords and heroes, especially with wounding/assassination actions from your heroes, I have a hard time engaging with the Bloodline mechanic unless I'm playing as Vlad/Isabella and have the landmark that allows me to recruit Vampires at T1. I could use necromancers instead, but their strength is in boosting your economy and boosting your units in battle, they should not be your assassin heroes.
TL;DR, give us a hero at T3 other than the Necromancer so I can actually play with the Bloodline mechanic before turn 60

I think adding some of the 3K style mechanics is a good change. In particular, using how Empires work in 3K. In 3K, the tiered title system allows for multiple factions to be within an empire and have differing levels of autonomy - they can even feud with each other, which is basically just a war that doesn't pull in the parent empire in. Some of the merc mechanics for 3k and trading items would help immensely as well.
As it stands, I feel the game design of TWW3 is put towards the battles. WHich is all well and good, but it makes the campaign underdeveloped in almost all regions. Everytime I play the campaign it just makes me wanna play other Total War games or 4X titles. Tech that gives me units and buildings. Trade resources that aren't just random number effects. (I.e. a trade resource of horses would actually allow me to recruit horses) Movable garrisons. meaningful diplomacy Give me instances where alliances are better than just taking the territory or confederating. The alliance system where you get 4 units to an army is an excellent *start*. I think that's whats the problem with TWW3. All the 4X mechanics are like good starter ideas or good concepts but are never followed through. If the 4X was just as competent as the battles...wow. CA would unironically monopolize the strategy sphere in an instant.
What if the seduction mechanic had a new vassal type for Slaanesh? This vassal type changes the affinity/aversion of that faction and makes them great friends with all chaos aligned boys, and they can still act independently - they are just now chaos aligned?
Instead of affecting growth, let population actually have numbers that scale with buildings.(again, 3K) (You can't have a level 5 town without X population...and plagues can kill population thresholds and de-level towns. Make town upgrades cheaper to compensate, but make them less powerful without supportive buildings.)
Let garrisons be buildable instead of automatic. Fix the engine bug where armies need a lord to move around.
    Add alliance victory conditions.
the basic addition of two resources for chorfs (and the devs acting like that would be too much for a community of tabletop loving dorks) gave them depth and shit to do in the campaign. Add more *depth*. For players who don't want depth, make the options toggleable, or add factions that are *really* simple. (I.e. Khorne or Greenskins)
Add an age/politics system in the campaign, alongside proper dates, dependent on faction. Perhaps this can relate to certain side quests. This would also mean needing to create a system for new lords but we are talking ideals here, so I don't think this will happen, but I want it too. Have different eras ala CK3, where different lords are at play. A war of the beard, a vampire wars, etc etc, and then an immortal empires as the generic all in one campaign. Make the campaigns *shorter*, but more meaningful. Everyone quits by turn 150 anyways. If turns are longer, its less time waiting and more time playing. The closest we have to this is the Empire rework, which is great in idea, but again, bad in excecution.
Add a religious system. An actual religious system ala Rome II/Atilla. Instead of corruption, make each corruption a type of religion with extremely negative effects, but you can also have disparities in untainted religions. Northern Empire Pantheon vs Southern Empire Pantheon vs Classical Pantheon (Myrmidia, Taal, etc) vs. Kislevite pantheon etc. Based on similarities, some pantheons can live in harmony with others. (Classical can persist through the Empire and the Southern Realms easily enough, but not so the other way around. Have each faction able to change and choose a state pantheon. (This can relate to seduction mechanics as well - allowing a faction to fall and fully worship Slaanesh or another chaos faction or Nagash or something)
Add a recruitable mercanaries based on faction type and location. Empire boys can hire bretonnian mercs or kislevite mercs or southern realms mercs but not WoC mercs. For ease of use, this can be seperated into Order, Death, Destruction, and Chaos.
Every faction aside from demons and tomb kings should have some level of food which dictates their population and how it rises and falls. Having too high or too low population can negatively effect things without proper infrastructure. Vamps can have like a blood tax system or something, and Vcoast might have a merge with the infamy system (i.e. being a captain of renown is what's keeping the psuedo sentient zombo pirates around)
There is so much more I can add. Really, it's about replacing gimmicks and shitty number effects with mechanics that actively change the game and force the player to adopt new strategies and to do more with each turn beyond waiting and besieging.

The lizardmen mechanic I've been thinking of is earning points from the geomantic web, where the amount of points earned per turn depends on the size and level of the web.
These points you can then distribute for regional buffs, diplomacy with other lizardmen or buying those blessed spawnings. Depending on the effect they could cost some combination of per turn upkeep and/or one time cost.
For vampire counts let's have the vampiric corruption matter more than a morale and attrition penalty it currently is. And make blood kisses useful for something after you've unlocked all the bloodlines.
Low corruption = only low tier units available for raising no matter how big battlesite. High corruption = battlesites work as now and encroaching on enemy territory also buffs your bordering region recruitment speed and gives a diplomatic bonus. Perhaps even vampiric covens similar to undercities become available.
Blood kisses could be used for creating heroes, perhaps even somehow boosted heroes. Or as a diplomacy resource. Or sabotaging the city defences during a siege.
High elves could use some help too, especially Tyrion and Teclis since their intrigue mechanics are the plainest vanilla.

There WAS a mod that allowed the Vampire factions and Tomb Kings to get skeletal versions of quite a lot of different units (Hydras, dragons, crypt horrors (which I find pointless as a skeleton option), skin wolves, mammoths, et cetera), but I haven't heard anything about it being updated lately, and I honestly just use a mod that adds undead Norscan and Chaos infantry to the Counts roster instead.
In the meantime, I'd recommend trying out Nanu's Pirates of Sartosa mod on the grounds that it makes Aranessa Saltspite more interesting as a faction leader by giving her faction access to a roster of living pirate units and some unique admiral lords that have something akin to genuine value, one of which allows you to get zombie versions of Dread Saurians and Feral Mammoths. Haven't tested whether those units can be obtained from an alliance with her, but Aranessa's hard to make alliances with for anyone who isn't from the Vampire Coast faction anyway.

The fact that even “big” RUclipsrs don’t understand the point of vassals or think they’re bad really makes me think I play this game too much. I’d start my own channel to teach you all from a platform but the world doesn’t need more RUclipsrs, so I’ll tell you here:
The entire point is that you gain financial benefits with literally no risk to yourself and without needing to maintain or build regions or supply chains. If you lose or have a settlement threatened, it can cause a huge disruption to your gameplay. If you leave it in the hands of a vassal you can OPT to help them but the investment isn’t so large that it ruins your game. They serve as a warning for enemy armies, free peons you can tell what to do, resupply points for army health, and free money/buildings. Crazy that this is confusing for people when the games been out this long.

Moreover, in all the Total War games where you are expected to be heavily surrounded by either enemies or future traitorous, back-stabbing neighbors, I have found that vassals and allies are great resources for creating effective buffer zones. For instance, in Attila, dragging the german tribes into submission is VITAL for the survival of the Western Roman Empire, since you can foresee the hun hordes and allocate forces accordingly while your allies throw everything up in order to save you some precious time. As the world has expanded a lot with the Immortal Empires campaign and now that the landscape is filled with null geopolitical order where tons of opposite factions fight each other in all directions, the role of vassals and allies is key to effectively concentrate in one particular front to obliterate any corresponding foe. Yeah, they usually behave without much logic, but scrapping the margin that they offer is still crucial and very exploitable.

From an allied recruitment perspective vassals can be better than military allies because vassals won't drag you into wars and will fight any war you want them to unless they don't like you and that means you will more likely keep hold of your outposts and recruited allied units.
Also, getting vassals helps some races/factions become stronger such as Vampire Counts - gaining vassals grants 1 blood kiss per vassal.

For the lizardmen part of the problem is 8th ed sacred spawnings. The sacred spawnings in 6ed where much more characterful
Imagine being able to recruit vanguard deployed cavalry killing Sacred Saurus of Huanchi,
Maybe skinks of Tepok with magic resistance and bound spells.
Chotec perfect vigour and fire attacks, maybe one type of unit for each old one or maybe just 5 of them.
Maybe a geomantic energy bar thar accumulates over time which can either give the buffs to edicts, but can be uses up in one big go to teleport armies or to terraform a province to a jungle like they did in Albion

Given the role of the lizardmen and their attempts to execute the impossible to comprehend great plan, I'd like the Geomantic web to be something that mutates and grows over the campaign, with each game pulling 10 or so missions from a random grab-bag that each give significant buffs like... "x terrain goes from inhabitable to preferred at geomantic web strength 2 in the area." "suppress x corruption by 3 per level of geomantic web". This way the geomantic web can be an active driver

honestly people that think festus ruined Franz campaign don't get hpw to actually play franz.
cause now it's not as slow to get authorit and prestege as it was before. not you have shit to do and land to give back and an actual opponent to fight.
cause you can hold grom of with jus the fort, even on legendary kemmler is 50-50 to declare war and can be held with same fort.
khazrak dies on turn what 7 maybe 8 if you get to play karl then kill GS into festus turn 20 and you are done with festus if you wish but i recommend let him do some damage cause you will never drop below -4 anyway if you don't rush confederation. as for vlad you have to push him to let him be him get passed tabacland you are at least turn 30+ and if you still have issues wih him then you lack the skills for that difficulty and try again on a lower one. which isn't a bad thing bu you are not skilled enough for that level. but just because you think you should be able to doesn't mean you will be able to and CA should not nerf shit because of it. it's like saying i can swim so why can't i be paid to swim at the olympics...
DO heavily agree with the Geomantic web, you even missed an important part that the lizards already struggle to get enough buildings in their province. most factions can get the buildings 4+ into a 7 slot but the lizards can't. partly because of that dumb geomantic building
Hottake: Orges are worse then the horde mechanic of WoC. cause they have the same dumb mechanic with the "horde building" that doesn't even move and need additional units you need to pay upkeep for. and on top of all that their LL suck bigtime and their melee lord hero lack casulties replentishment that the magic lord does have. so even lore of fire to use with firebellies is not worth it

  • @therasco400

I hate the dwarf banner/rune system. You are limited in two ways, creation and equipping. Creation is a once and done mechanic, you get the number listed for your faction and that's it. Equipping you are only allowed 8 in a army of 20. The lords and heros they kinda work on but not for your standard units. I would love if it worked like clan eshin's mechanic where once you build a rune forge you are able to assign lords and heros of a sufficient level to make a rune that is then selected though a scrap like mechanic.
Sending the lords/heros out is limited by turns and space at the forge with the more impactful runes being avable only once the hero/lord is a high enough level.

    *Vampire Counts*
    *Day & Night*
_Night:_ Vampire Count units gain +5% Magic resist, Morale, Cooldown reduction, Speed & Charge.
    _Dawn & Dusk:_ No modification.
_Day:_ Vampire Count units gain -5% Magic resist, Morale, Cooldown reduction, Speed & Charge.
All combats have a timer (say 3 min). When on a Vampire player's turn, combat starts at night. Any other player turn (if the vampire is attacked, or if the vampire ambushes), combat starts day. After the timer, dawn/dusk happens, and another timer is set (say 1 min). Then it shifts to day/night. Each rank of Lightning Strike increases the timer on night missions by 30 seconds. Eternal Warden reduces timer on day combat by 30 seconds. 75%+ and 100% Vampiric Corruption increases those values to +7.5% / +2.5% / -2.5% and +10% / +5% / +0%.
Corrupted Lord and Heroes (no matter which faction they belong to) gain the bonuses (if any), but not the penalties.
    *Kiss*
_Recruitment:_ Whenever a non-legendary, non-immortal Lord or Hero that is killed (and that does not crumble/vanish) on the battlefield against a Vampire Count player, Assassinated by a Vampire Count player, the Lord/Hero becomes available for recruitment by that Vampire Count players at a cost of 1 Kiss (level 1-4), 2 Kisses (level 5-9), 3 kisses (level 10-14) or 4 kisses (level 15-19). It becomes undead, its school of magic, if any, is replaced with Death or Vampire, spread Vampiric Corruption and gains "Army gains "Hates [Original Owner's Faction]"".
When defeated again, on its current turn (if it is its original owner's turn), or next turn otherwise, its previous owner may recruit the fallen Hero / Lord again, but said Hero / Lord remains Undead, spread Vampiric Corruption, and its "Hates" ability is shifted to Vampire Counts. It remains "Corrupted". It can be removed like the Gift of Slaanesh.
_Corruption:_ Whenever a Legendary or Immortal Lord or Hero (from a living faction) is wounded in battle by a Vampire Count player, it becomes "Corrupted". It gains the Undead tag, spread Vampiric Corruption, and "Army gains "Hates Vampire Counts"". It can be removed like the Gift of Slaanesh.
_Puppet Mastery:_ A Vampire Count player can spend 3 Kisses to prevent an opposing Corrupted Hero from participating in combat, or 10 Kisses to force a Lord to Break Siege or Retreat. If a Corrupted Lord belongs to a Computer Player, the Vampire Count player can spend 10 Kisses and its army's defeat value in Gold to borrow it and its army.

The vampire count problem at the moment for me as totally them beeing boring. The change ca made making the gallow building giving so much money is good for the early game and makes the campaign much easier so much, that you only need that building. You just raise dead and build gallows....
    Yeah that sounds fun....
I would definitely enjoy a mechanic you can mentioned, having undead carnosaurs, dragons, giants, great stags, mammoths, but would require ca to put in actual work... Why I don't really see it happening sadly, but it would be awesome.
For me the bloodline mechanic feels like just a better techtree atm and you could easily combine the two, for an interesting techtree, giving you a legendary hero or lord at the end of each bloodline... That would be a nice way to add in some named characters.
I would like a warriors of chaos style dlc adding in the missing bloodlines, and actual mechanics for the new legendary lords ... I am mostly here for necrarchs, but the vamps have been so forgotten, they really could use a big dlc...
Furthers the base heros could use some extra skills to make them more special and not capping out on like level 39....
I want animated Armour, undead basilics, abysal terrors, and simulacras... and give kemmler final the tomb scorpion and krell still should be a legendary hero...
Manfred Stil doesn't have a unique skilltree only 2 lores of magic yeah...
    Lots of homework for ca
But please make them more interesting again... They are powerful, but boring... Make them powerful and interesting. Or even less powerful but more interesting
Oh for raise dead as it works now,... At least make it that you can only raise dead specific high tier units, if you got the building somewhere. Just something to make it nassasry to actual build some of the buildings....
Oh and atm the corruption building is just useless... You build the skaven discovereability building and are good... So we have an actual another useless building....
Please ca give the vamps the love they missed the last like 7 or maybe allready 8 years!

Or maybe like you designated a single army as a mercenary group, other faction at war can contract thay army and depending on the war results you get som many rewards or lose relations if you army dies early. Maybe some random events to complicate thi gs.

@Colonel Damneders 1) you do know that many people who play Strategy games have fun from the balance they offer - hence the challenge that is created by the balance ?
    2) Creating balance is hard, this is what people are getting paid for, making unbalanced broken shit is easy - for example you can easily go and add a mod that gives you 10 skill points per level, since you clearly your fun is just a mass of broken OP shit, I suggest you go to the mod section instead of waiting for actual CA work. There you can find added heroes that boost armies like crazy, added mechanics such as the Chorfs court to HE and with it lots of buffs and imbalance and so on, I am pretty sure you can even find Dwarves units with naplam or whatever or rats that can sends 10 nukes per second :).
Bottom line is, I appreciate your effort in creating this video, and its good people set expectations from CA, but what you mentioned as fun is basically 'cheat codes', I get while some people have fun from those but many don't. The true art in Age of Empires wasn't the addition of the laser car, but rather the balance the devs created between the diiferent unique factions that created challenge.
So while I do hope for reworks for all the factions you mentioned, I don't want to see CA goes in the direction of almost any of the suggestions you brought up.

Rather than copy Grom's mechanic more closely, I think Nurgle plagues should be more similar to Ostankya's Blessings/Curses.

Seriously, no High Elves? They did not have a single change in mechanics since launch, influence system is mildly useful at best while being crippling at worst, making you save old characters to go around having to recruit those with debilitating traits. Not to mention it's completely uninteresting.
They have no means of confederating other lords other than just waiting for the button to turn green which is either next to impossible, given how strong they usually are (Ulthuan factions) or they just get eradicated before you get to them (Imrik, Alith Anar, Teclis).
The only lord that can inhabit entire Ulthuan is Eltharion, who is actually encouraged to leave the continent - Tyrion and Alarielle whose entire point is uniting Ulthuan have several uninhabitable settlements.
Yes HEs are a strong faction with a powerful economy and very good units. That doesn't mean they are fun to play.

Slaneesh and Lizardmen made this list, but not Vampire Coast? Compared to some of these, Coast feels half baked.
