    Hello Candace! I'm so proud of you! You use what you have there- the bamboo and everything else. You have tried so hard. Life too, is full of trials and errors. You have done an amazing job there. Next year will be better. Keep up the great work! Keep smiling, God loves you all and there's better days and times ahead for you all! I love your enthusiasm!

    All winter dad throws food scraps on top of his garden. Even egg shells, everyone's broken pumpkins after Halloween, just no meat or bones. When the ground is thawed in the spring, he mulches it all into the soil. So he never buys fertilizer anymore and never used herbicides or pesticides. Just his cayenne pepper on the leaves & plants, egg shells in soil. He's 89 and never been without his gardens. You did a beautiful job. I wish I could show him.

    If you plant potatoes now in the blank areas, they can be turned into the soil to rot over the fall, winter and spring. Then turn them into the beds. It fertilizes the soil. But you probably knew that.
    Great work this year!!!

    When garden is done, mix compost and fertilizer and work it in really well. The bamboo may have stripped the soil of nutrients that's why I said add those things to it. It might help rebuild the quality of your soil. You'll probably have to fertilizer with miracle grow or another kind of fertilizer like fish fertilizer, it's either liquid or granular as the garden is growing.

      Yes, I agree, soil needs to be amended as you’ve suggested. And I agree with Candace that having more hours of sunshine in the garden will be a huge help.

    Hi, Candice. I like that you're using the bamboo in assisting the various plants to grow. Your garden beds will benefit greatly from having more sun once the other trees are down. The tomato plants are doing really well (love tomatoes, but only the 'acid-free' variety agree with me 😅). Thanks for the update.

    Hi Candice, glad to hear the rain has stopped there for awhile. Love the video of the Gardens... in my opinion, you and your Gardens rock. They done better than expected, you should be so proud of yourself. I'm also looking forward to a video about the Cabin soon. You , the Critters , and the family take care until next time. We love y'all here in KY.... God's blessings be upon you. 👍🫶🙏

    Thanks for the update. Where I live in MN our garden hasn’t been the greatest either. We have had a ton of rain, but not as much sun as we really need for a strong garden. I am hoping next year is a better year with a healthy balance of sun and rain.

  • @Suebe1962
    @Suebe1962 Месяц назад +1

    You definitely need more sun, but some of your plants are thriving. Next year should be a better year!!! When you talked about ferns, I was thinking if only I could send you some hardy ferns! I have way too many ferns and recently gave some to my sisters. They grow like weeds, I originally got them from our family farm, and my mom had planted them back in the 1970’s. I have advertised them on a Facebook free site, but no one ever came for them. I should try that again.

    Your garden might need some fertilizer. Not sure if you amended the soil with anything.
    You might also need to do a soil test to see what it needs. Adding what the soil needs for the winter, may help for next year. But testing your soil yearly will benefit you, in knowing what it needs to grow crops. Hope this info helps.

    The heat and rain are not doing too many plants any favors in CT.... Well done ! Freakin chipmunks . Looking forward to you getting more sun on it all next year.
    You look great by the way... take care and safe travels. D CT / USA

  • @momnoah5
    @momnoah5 Месяц назад +1

    Just tossing a few thoughts around. Maybe you can call your state ag extension office and ask about soil testing. I don't know about GA, but AZ used to test water and soil for free (this has been a while ago, so not sure about now). Then you will have an idea of what amendments you can to add to the soil to improve it. I know alfalfa and a couple other plants will add nitrogen to the soil naturally. Also, plant pairing is important too. Some do better paired with one & badly with another. Like corn & squash do well together. I wish I could remember more, but it's been almost 30 years since I had a big garden with a good friend and she knew a good bit more than I. She planned it out, I just helped with the work. If it were me, I think I'd try live traps and rehome as many chipmunks as possible, even though they are adorable.

    Sadly I have had very bad experiences with that the brand of plastic container you are using for the fly larvae do not hold up well to UV light and crumble when used as cat litter boxes or get a hard freeze and are hit, they break apart. I just buy the commercial restaurant bussing tubs or buy Rubbermaid products. I am at least 15 years on their garbage cans which are outside in the weather!! Much better garden than I have.

    I think your whole garden needs fertilizer! I had the same thing happen one year and found that fertilizing every couple of weeks worked wonders the next year and I had a thriving garden. Also I had planted in container garden soil and turned out it was mostly peat moss which had no nutrition and formed dry root balls at each plant so all the plants weren’t actually getting the water I thought they were getting!

    Candace you might want to think about getting your garden soil tested before next year's garden. The soil could be missing an essential mineral that you need to add to help your garden grow better. I added bone meal spikes to my one and only tomato plant I am growing in a large flower pot. The bone meal really helped my poor scraggly tomato plant pick up and now it is almost 3 feet tall and bushed out beautifully.
    P.S. I am jealous your tomato plant produced tomatoes before mine has 😂
    May God Bless and Keep Your Family Safe 🥰
    Be Happy 😂 Safe and Healthy 💞

    The cucumber plant is awesome. My dad has his always growing up chicken wire fence with wooden stakes holding it in the ground. Same with his peas. He also digs up many potatoes when they're still tiny and sweet just to boil. Try a grape vine next year. It has to have a good solid pipelike arch to wind around. I helped dad plant his second vine. Your garden looks amazing. I am worried about your watermelon. I used to plant from seed in the 90s then like dad, I either started the plants indoors under a light 2 months before planting season or went to the garden center and bought them already as small plants.

    Do you have any clover, farmers in Scotland before the Industrial Revolution, used to plant clover between the strips of corn to put nutrients back into the soil because corn and the cereal grasses drained the nutrients. Planting clover meant they didn’t have leave the field fallow for a year or season to recover.
