- What good is a RSAA series without a shop from the nation's capital? Matt Moffett shares the history of SMASH! and more. Synonymous to the DC punk scene but not exclusive, you can find rare vinyl, metal, jazz, rock and fashion in this killer DC record shop.
I'm a Washington DC metro area native and was just at Smash today digging. Mentioned this post and there were positive vibes all around. Thanks for given these guys some much needed love/exposure!
That's awesome! I love to spotlight indie owned record shops and feedback like this make it worth it.
Awesome video! Smash is my favorite record store. I never go to Adams Morgan without stopping by
Smash is the best record store in DC and Matt is the coolest helpful guy you'll ever meet. Thanks Smash!
Great episode as always!! Thanks for sharing!
Very cool to visit a shop in DC! Matt's contributions made the video outstanding. Thanks for always checking in Cody.
This was so cool. I go to school in DC and Smash is my favorite place to get records. I love going there and this video is a great showcase of a staple in the DC punk scene.
Nice! Thank you Tanner, positive feedback from a local is appreciated. It's awesome what Matt and the other owners did to save the name and culture of SMASH! I mean, it could have been closed forever back in '07...
Love this series. so cool its back! Trish
Thanks Trish
Nice! Those interviews are fun because it's interesting to know the background story of the shop. I saw some cool records in there, it's too bad I don't have my passport. Those fly swapper in the back totally makes this place more punk ;) Have a good one Corey, and thanks for sharing this with us.
Haha you're welcome, check out some of the back episodes and I'll try to get a new one up the next time 'it all comes together'
Hi Corey. Very cool. I've actually been to this store before, when I was in D.C. for a conference a couple of years ago. I'm still kicking myself for leaving a Fugazi record behind.
Cheers,
Frank
Aw.. that would totally be the place to pick up Fugazi too! Glad to get another RSAA vid up. Cheers
This was sick dude! Punk and New Wave, that's my kind of record store. Take care man.
haha thanks man! Visiting stores like this one always has me brushing aside all my other music to just listen to punk for a while. It is a cleansing experience lol
I love your shop
I'd like to visit there when I travel Washington DC one day
Another 'smashing' RSAA Corey. Anytime I hear that a record shop still sells punk and new wave they get my vote. Matt sounds like a really nice guy. I don't know if you saw Steve {FlipSideCT} last video? He spoke about his experiences in record stores when it comes to the managers and owners. He made some very good points. That's all I can say is that he would love SMASH.
I liked when he talked about what he was spinning lately. That Double-O that he was talking about is ultimately rare. I would love to hear it myself.
Well done once again Corey. I loved the video~
Rob/Boston
You'd love this shop! I picked up a couple local punk CDs too.
Not every shop works out for this series. Oh-no there are many many I've had to leave or didn't even bother to break out the camera because of owner/employee behaviors or it 'just wasn't right'. Matt was all the difference for making this another great addition to the series with a unique shop and perspective. Also on the hunt for cracked nuts and double-o. Cheers Friend!
Yet another in this cool record stores video series. Really enjoy 'em. Was spying all sorts of cool stuff in that store. That Raven All for One record made me cringe though. Sheesh.
Very happy to have the opportunity to visit DC. It was just the right place at the right time but Matt was about the coolest dude ever and really took this to the next level. The Raven was an Italian press, maybe that's why it wasn't pitched. A nice copy of Wiped Out was right behind it, I'll show it in an update video ;)
You do such a great job with these, Corey. Thanks for another great vid in the series! -Stav
Hi Stav, thanks for the kind words, I appreciate the positive feedback. This video wouldn't have been half as good without Matt's commentary and the track from Blockhead. Home cookin' all the way!
Memories... The only reason I'd go into Georgetown...
It's nice to get some of the business aspects.
Love to share a glimpse into these record shops that otherwise people may never see or hear about the history.
Love Smash. I've been several times and there's usually a lot of good stuff if you dig around long enough.
Very cool shop, I can't wait to return.
