Let's try the snow metaphor as well. You go to bed and wake up to 3 inches of fresh snow on your deck. Even though you didn't physically see it snow, the fact that there is 3 inches of fresh snow on your deck proves that it indeed snowed.
Using the rain metaphor to compare this case's circumstantial evidence, which is the entire scope of evidence is completely insane! Then you make a comparison to 3 inches of snow? You're just trying to make people believe that this case is legitimate. At best the circumstantial evidence in this case is like walking outside on a clear summer day seeing one car with water droplets on it while everything else is bone dry and coming to a conclusion that it must have been raining just before I walked outside! When in actuality it is obvious the car is set because it had just been through a carwash. That's a better way to explain what happened in this case. I could go further and make some rain metaphor type story about the man who sees a wet car being extremely biased and not trustworthy to make any conclusion on the question of rain that day.
What is a "reasonable" inference? You must have additional supporting evidence. I just had to include this example from a religion. Christians have "natural revaluation" in the Bible. (Refer to Romans 1:20). Natural revelation states that you can look around in nature, see that things have complexity and therefore things must be designed, and therefore there was a designer (which is God). Apparently the person who states this, Paul, believes that this is scientifically valid evidence and proof. However, this way of reasoning is not the way to prove an assertion. (You are assuming the thing you are trying to prove). It might be a compelling inference to make, but it is not sufficient to prove that God exists.
