Great video! I celebrate Yuanxiao Festival each year with my family but growing up outside China, sometimes it feels like I'm just going through the motions without fully understanding the cultural background. The information is concise and clear, would love more of these to come to spread knowledge of traditional Chinese culture but also to remind people like myself of the details too!
So happy you enjoyed it! It inspires me to do more. I have a variety of cultural topics in the pipeline, so stay tuned for those 😎👍
Also Yuan Xiao Jie is also the Chinese Valentine's Day. This is the day couples profess their love for each other. In Penang at least, young single people toss uneaten Mandarin oranges into the sea, hoping to land their significant other. For couples, it's also a very very very popular day to get hitched. Prices for flowers such as fresh roses will spike. Jewelry stores will make a killing. Best regards from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Cool! Similar to the 庙会 Miao Hui in China, which occurs during Chinese New Year and other holidays. Lots of food and fun, and during Yuan Xiao Jie many couples and formed this day at the Miao Hui
In Malaysia, the 15th day is popularly called Chap Goh Meh.
Nice. What does that mean?
@@learnchinesenow Chap Goh Meh is in Hokkien or Fujien dialect. This is a major dialect in Malaysia aside from Cantonese and Hakka. It means Fifteenth night or 十五暝 . Great video!!! 正好了!
@@envitech02 Wow, really interesting! Makes sense it would be called the 15th day.
