@Gabriel Bergman It's so cool how amazed you are at how Jerry visualized the fretboard. I've been amazed by his playing for 40 years. Only fairly recently have I started my long journey away from using only scales to discover chord shape soloing. It is now an obsession. Using the two and three chord songs like Fire on The Mountain and Iko and Franklin's at first. (baby steps) Ironically I started obsessing over Jack Straw b/c the song uses both scales and chord shapes. Then I saw this video. I'm so proud of myself for being able to see what you are doing. Finally! But it is a long road to be able to keep up with what's going on and do it up to speed. Thanks for the video. It's so good to see a talented musician like you who is still so excited about Jerry's approach to guitar. Awesome!
Thanks for the breakdown. LOVE this tune. Check out the extended solo Jerry rips when Bobby's guitar fails. Search Jack Straw 8/22/93. I was at that show and so grateful I heard it then and can go relive it anytime on line. Keep the breakdowns coming. Scarlet Begonias next? Peace.
You are definitely the best teachers covering Garcia’s soloing approach. Clear and simple instruction.
Oh man, thanks so much dude! Really apprciate that comment! Thanks for the support!
Just so happens to be one of my favorite versions. Cheers!
