Although that customer service is standard for call centre, You need to understand their the front line to the issues and are only trying to help you, as minimal as it was it was still better than what ive encountered. The hold time was based on if the warehouse would pick up (given when this is recorded if their still dealing with new years rush ect warehouses are still under the pump), It'd be worse customer service if they didn't. I work in CS and I understand the language, however, I also understand lazy cs, they weren't the worst. Id be ceasing trading with said place and send an email through asking if their check out portal can be updated to represent this information (may fall on deaf ears) or at least included in the T's and c's - although most dont bother to read ts and cs.
the last cs job I had at a call center, we could never get help from supervisors, and unfortunately we when we had to reach out to the other departments they never gave an exact answer either. they would just say that's what you tell them, and that's it. we never got training or had access to the other systems, so we tried our best with what we had. so it can be really hard.
my company uses ups to ship to canada, the “can only send express” is BS! them not notifying about the shipping is super shady as well, probably best to drop them tbh. it sucks though :(((

The shipping situation makes absolutely no sense. I work at a manufacturer in the US with several Canadian customers, and we always ship UPS Ground without issue. And trust me, we are not a "modern factory"; a lot of our equipment is decades old.

100% worked in a much smaller place where we often had issues with printing labels in the warehouse. Warehouse staff couldn't be bothered to ask the office staff (in the same building) to fix it often
I dont check in regularly but when I do I'm always so surprised to see how far of a jump your show mapkes. Like I remember when you where cutting stickers with a cricut! now you got the full on embroidery machine and warehouse. Such an inspiration!

Baylee, We have learned a new lesson. Things change all the time particularly when it comes to pricing for things. It's hard to be final and direct when and where things change all the time. Postage pricing is a mess and really more than anything right now because just when you think that everything is set when it comes to shipping outside of your country it changes right under everyone's noses and it throws you off and ultimately your customers off too. That's ridiculous! That warehouse manager is being lazy. There are ways to override the system to allow the label to ship. In the meantime, are you able to order and have them go to a US address (like your sister, maybe) and then have them forward it to you?
I think sometimes companies have deals with only certain shipping companies so they aren’t technically allowed to use other services due to contracts. This is advantageous for them because they may get special discounts or services by working with only one company.
UPS standard and UPS express are both services by UPS. Madeira said they can ship standard to other areas of Canada, so I think something is wrong tech/software-wise.
Pretty sure I know exactly what they're doing wrong because I've worked in a warehouse doing international shipping. They need to process the international shipments at a desktop using the UPS app or website. Their small parcel station in the warehouse is not set-up for all types of international shipments. That's why you can see the option for worldwide on your computer, but they do not see it at their station. I wonder if they're a smaller outfit and they just don't have much experience with intl shipping. It's possible, if you have your own ups account, that you can get the shipment information from them, create your own labels, and send them the labels to use.
Sorry to hear you had trouble with thread company again, have you search for third party shipping service? You can ship to their warehouse in USA and have it sent to Canada with your preferred shipping method, might cost a little more shipping and handling fees but maybe cheaper price and wider selection can make up the extra work?
I got charged $50 for shipping from Madeira recent,y which was more than I expected for the amount of thread I ordered. I’m not sure it’s worth buying direct either, the wholesale price isn’t that much cheaper. I will say it was super quick but I’d rather pay less if it’s not a rush. Can u order from AllStitch?

There are crossborder reshippers that would save you the shipping cost. Just like there was in Vancouver there are companies that have recieving locations just south of the Alberta border that then crossborder ship up into Calgary. You may want to look into this further as the options are out there to save you the headaches you are experiencing with a supplier that will only offers the one shipping option to Canadians.
I don't know if it's worth it, but maybe there's an option to go through a middleman...? a person or a company that would order inside the US and then send it to Canada...?

Yeah that DMARC thing is global, everyone who sends emails through a 3rd party has to set it up. I've had to do it with my newsletter lists too. I had to contact their support to help me do it.
I think her sister moved back to Canada, no? But I had the same thought, like have someone in the US be the go between. Kinda like how NerdECrafter does.
I’m in Winnipeg and it’s a 1 hr drive to the border so lots of people ship to a parcel pick up warehouse and just cross the border to go get it. Surprisingly we don’t have many companies that will get it for and deliver it to you, I guess it’s because of customs. But Calgary isn’t close to the border so maybe it’s not really a thing, but still something to look into.

I remember I discovered a work around for it when I was pretending to look busy, though. That warehouse manager is probably just going off an SOP and not bothering to check if there's a solution. Canada was always the easiest international orders to fulfill haha. So sorry you had such a frustrating experience!
In this situation, ask them to advise the shipping weight and dimensions, and arrange your own delivery - and just send them the ticket. Most companies will accept this as an option as long as you don't make it a pfaff around for them. You will just need to make sure you get the warehouse hours and add to the delivery instructions. Just sounds like they are being lazy.
I handed the DMARC thing over to my tech support aka the husband. He was surprised that I was just getting this notification as DMARC has been a requirement for awhile. He works on servers for a living so it took him a few minutes, If left to me I probably would have let it go to the generic emails. 🤣
I know this is old but it's because phone audio is as compressed as possible to make it very efficient in terms of data usage. This means it gets compressed to be ideal for the sound range of human voices. Music does not usually fit into this sound range so the compression sounds much worse

I work for a company like this, they are lying to you. You absolutely can do it they just incur charges on their end and refuse to be reasonable and pass that expense onto you. That warehouse guys hands are tied because this probably falls on an absentee and frankly useless "office manager" who thinks her whole job entails logging onto quickbooks, setting her status to busy, and then walking away for several hours..... Not that Id know what thats like 😅😅😅😅 😒
The company I work for. We can only ship via express for Canada. We try standard but get charged crazy fees if we do not pick express. I hope this helps.
Not sure how UPS works but if they use a logistic software like we do, you get limited access to what you can do or use. We use FedEx and have to ship express to HI or Alaska and out of the US.

Unlike where i am in Aus i only have one shipping provider. But these are from major cites to major cites!! This makes no sense and as person who works in warehousing they cant send your order to a different provider for pickup?? (Therefore cheaper shipping too)

I’m not sure if it’s available in CA, but I buy my Madeira thread through allstitch because it’s cheaper and I don’t like the idea of them bulking us shipping AFTER we order, for exactly this reason…and I’m in the US, so it’s not just an exemption due to customs.
Do you guys have a US parcel forwarding service? Australians can register an address in the US for parcels where companies won’t ship worldwide, and then that service does the international shipping. So maybe that’s something to look in to?
Their website is just showing the invisible at the moment but we used to order cones from them when we owned a shop. Wouldn't hurt to ask them. They're pretty awesome to work with.

I got them from Sticker Canada www.stickercanada.com/ They don't actually make their sticker sheets though. They're a middle man. My order shipped from Singapore or something.
Have you tried ohuhu markers? Ive got the pastel set and its fairly comparable to copic. I have mostly copics as well and the refills are now smaller and so spendy. Anyways just curious if anyone else has converted and been happy im leery to get the 320 set they have when i have over 300 copics just need over 150 refils still.
I have tried Ohuhu and they are very nice! You could try pricing out what Copic refills would cost vs getting Ohuhu markers with refills. I personally don't mind the new Copic refills being smaller because I won't get through most of my big refill bottles in my lifetime. But the price point is annoying since you're getting less for your money.

When I used to ship Scrapbooking supplies from the US (I used to have a scrapbook shop), they did this all the time (charge shipping retrospectively)

I have 2 multineedle machines and use isacord threads with no problems! Try looking into them and see if you like them

I handed the DMARC thing over to my tech support aka the husband. He was surprised that I was just getting this notification as DMARC has been a requirement for awhile. He works on servers for a living so it took him a few minutes, If left to me I probably would have let it go to the generic emails. 🤣

I know this is old but it's because phone audio is as compressed as possible to make it very efficient in terms of data usage. This means it gets compressed to be ideal for the sound range of human voices. Music does not usually fit into this sound range so the compression sounds much worse

I work for a company like this, they are lying to you. You absolutely can do it they just incur charges on their end and refuse to be reasonable and pass that expense onto you. That warehouse guys hands are tied because this probably falls on an absentee and frankly useless "office manager" who thinks her whole job entails logging onto quickbooks, setting her status to busy, and then walking away for several hours.....

The company I work for. We can only ship via express for Canada. We try standard but get charged crazy fees if we do not pick express. I hope this helps.
Can anyone comment on cheaper copic alternatives like the Ohuhu’s or any other? Do they last as long as copics before you need a refill?
Can you send somwhere in US and then use a forwarder to Canada? I've heard some do that to get products.
Not sure how UPS works but if they use a logistic software like we do, you get limited access to what you can do or use. We use FedEx and have to ship express to HI or Alaska and out of the US.

Unlike where i am in Aus i only have one shipping provider. But these are from major cites to major cites!! This makes no sense and as person who works in warehousing they cant send your order to a different provider for pickup?? (Therefore cheaper shipping too)

Do you guys have a US parcel forwarding service? Australians can register an address in the US for parcels where companies won’t ship worldwide, and then that service does the international shipping. So maybe that’s something to look in to?
I do have an account with a service like that, but it's still pricey. I pay shipping twice, plus a fee.

Try ordering Maderia Thread through All Stitch they ship worldwide. So their shipping may be less through them. ❤

They're lying. I work for a US based company, and we ship 90% of our Canadian customer's packages via UPS Standard.
Strange thing that they cant send by standard. They really should look to their software... never heard if something like that. They lose the whole canadien market like that. Isn't there another brand of treath you can use? You aren't the only one in Canada that do embroidery.... you have trouble to find good sweaters and now also problems with the threat... anyhow, I hope you find a solution. I am watching you now for many years and always looking forward to your videos. I really missed you during the holidays. You give me so much joy and courage. Have you tried ohuhu markers? Ive got the pastel set and its fairly comparable to copic. I have mostly copics as well and the refills are now smaller and so spendy. Anyways just curious if anyone else has converted and been happy im leery to get the 320 set they have when i have over 300 copics just need over 150 refils still.
I have tried Ohuhu and they are very nice! You could try pricing out what Copic refills would cost vs getting Ohuhu markers with refills.
I personally don't mind the new Copic refills being smaller because I won't get through most of my big refill bottles in my lifetime. But the price point is annoying since you're getting less for your money.
